These cars are so underrated. My dad had a '90 and I absolutely loved it. Miss it still. The v8 ones didn't have jack for the old SC's and it was a absolute ball even in the passenger seat having him taking them to gabblebees. Certified sleepers 🤘 I'd love to get one for myself one day. Owned an 1989 Thunderbird SC and I already said all the words you were thinking changing out the injectors! Yes that wing can be installed as a dealer item or from the factory. Solenoids stick so change it. I have no idea why. I loved it enough to pass it and a Lincoln Mark III and IV to my son and daughter's. They still look and run showroom new. Now I drive a 2006 Ford Escape with 328,000 miles on it. Still runs like a champ!

@acelacrocker2958 Жыл бұрын
My understanding is that in 1988, whatever company that was making the 3.8 Essex's head gaskets removed the asbestos from the formula, and didn't bother to replace the missing ingredient resulting in a weaker gasket; the problem never really got sorted out until sometime around the mid to late 90's. By that time, the 3.8 Essex was already starting to be on its way out.

@@wasntme3651 lol it was a early high school graduation gift from my parents don't know why they got me such a fast car. They knew that I didn't speed or ever race lol. Even today I don't lol my sister said that I drive like a old man & that's coming from someone who lost her license a few times for getting speeding tickets lol I've never gotten a ticket in my life or parking ticket in the 30 years I've been driving lol. I said I don't drive like a old man i just like to have control of the car at all times & follow the speed limit. Granted I'm not crawling down the street like a elder lol. I drove limo's for 12 years so we were told to go 5 miles below the limit & drive it so that the pasengers couldn't feel you come to a stop or accelerate it had to be a comfortable safe ride & that's stuck with me to this day. I've been told by family and friends they feel safer with me then anyone else even their spouses. I've always loved big full size cars Fords. I had a 1989 Ford LTD crown Victoria and 1991 Mercury grand marquis & 1992 Lincoln town car. Love those cars. I'm currently driving my late uncle's 2005 Mercury grand marquis it has 42,645 original miles & looks runs like the day it was brand new. Fully loaded with everything offered at the time with the carriage roof & sun roof. I wouldn't trade that in for a brand new car ever i love the simple old luxury cars. I just discovered your channel. I had a 93 SC. I loved that body style, and man that car rode/drove great. It was a great car until it wasn't. LOL As normal, it blew a head gasket. So I ported the heads when I had them off, hogged out the manifolds, and put a 5% jackshaft pulley on it. It ran pretty good. But then the fuel pump went out, had to replace that, then it started having misc electrical issues. The AOD crapped out and I replaced it. But eventually the electrical issues wore me down and after I got it running correctly for the 147th time, so I traded it in. Mine had every option available in 93, sunroof, keyless entry, fold down rear seat, etc.

If you want a good Thunderbird story, back in the early 90's I bought a clean '64 from a neighbor. They'd had it since new, drove it a lot, but took it out only once in awhile after getting newer cars. The T-bird had exhaust leaks, but looked beautiful. I coughed up $700, and drove it home. The car had a 390 V8, the exhaust sound was loud under the hood, and it sometimes stalled when it got warm. I found the stalling was caused by a pinched fuel line. The exhaust leak was caused by cracked exhaust manifolds. If you know the 390, you know it's wide, and the exhaust bolts are hard to get to. Despite a good soaking in PB Breaker, half the bolts broke off in the heads. Anyway, I went out to the "Pick your Part" to try to find a set of 390 exhaust manifolds, and in the early 90's they didn't grow on trees. The guy at the Pick Your Part said to come the next day, they were bringing out some old Fords, and one looked like a 390. The next day I showed up early and they started bringing out the cars. One of them was a mid-60's 2-door Mercury. Once the set it down, I opened the hood, and saw two 4 barrel carbs and gold-colored valve covers. It was a 427 Marauder. I paid a Mexican guy passing by $20 to go get me an engine lift, and I sat on the car until he rolled it up. I pulled out the engine, exhaust, and the transmission, and altogether, the parts cost me $250. Putting the 427 in place of the 390 in my T-Bird was about has hard as putting on a t-shirt. I found out that the dual 4 barrels used a lot of gas when driving stupid (which was most of the time), and I had to replace the 5/16 fuel line with 3/8. I sold the car when I enlisted in the Army. Someone told me the person I sold it to parked it on their family's farm in Central California, and that it is still sitting there today. If anyone sees a root-beer colored 65 T-Bird in the countryside near UC Davis, buy it quick.

The first car I ever bought- 1990 SC in fall of 1989. Titanium/Black cloth. Loved the JBL- it thumped. Was beating Mustang GTs with it. Like an idiot I sold it in the fall of 1993.

Oh man, this makes me miss my 1990 Supercoupe SO badly. Mine was a 5 speed in white with red leather. My friend wrecked it and I sold it to another buddy who just wanted the engine, trans, and rear end.

Liked the previous generation of super coupe (1987-88) but after a while that generation grew on me. I also liked the 1987-88 Cougar XR7.

Something similar to Papa and his saving the oil- I worked at an oil change shop 21 years ago. The owner had a thing he built with a huge funnel on top of it, where you could put like 5 or 6 oil bottles in it, and it all ran down into 2 five gallon buckets. Just a mix of all weights and brands of oil. Who knows it was a that point, maybe a 13W-35? IDK what he did with it. He took it home every now and then.

You just gained a new subscriber, goodsir. I've had a white '90 SC as well for about 5 years but it's a 5-speed, in that time I've worked on several things it had missing as well as others that needed fixing, and finally took it to a full restoration job. They are indeed great underrated cars if you take proper care of them, which sadly didn't happen to lots of 'em. I live in Mexico so it took my attention the many differences in interior styling as well as equipment, in that year my country didn't offer a lot of the features your SC appears to have, enginewise it's the same but regarding other features I guess they had to "water it down" to save on production costs as well as making them more reachable to the developing market over here...there was no sunroof, no automatic ride control and no automatic headlights, among other things. Loving your content man, it's cool to see a car guy sharing his passion with a beautiful family. Keep it up!

It saddens me to see the car so mistreated. I bought a 91 new but not the supercharged version (of which I was unaware). I believe mine was an eight. I really loved it until I decided to treat myself to a Jaguar XJ6. Ford was making them and it had the same gauge cluster as my 91 T-bird. I’ve had four Thunderbirds, an 88, 91, and 2 2002s. It’s nice to see another Thunderbird guy!
