Now that’s a chainsaw the 60s 70s and 80s were the most durable years for small engines that’s when chainsaws were chainsaws they were loud good sounding and lasted forever they don’t make ‘em like they used to

I've been collecting old homelite saws for a couple decades now. Just got a 1958 zip saw running after it hadn't ran for 30 years. Runs like a scalded ape now 😂

I'm surprised it runs as good as it does without taking the carb apart. I just received a later version of the same saw, believe it's late '70s, that I got from my father-in-law. He said his dad bought a brand new when he was a kid so I'm thinking it's a '79 going off all the research I did and with the serial number. I didn't have to rebuild the carb, I just took it apart and cleaned it, it was filthy, and put fresh gas in, thing runs like a top now. It will go in my vintage saw collection and hopefully someday one of my kids will like them as much as I do and they can have their great grandfather's chainsaw. Good video, nice to see someone else keeping these old saws alive.

Was waiting for that towel to get caught and that saw to turn into a jumping jack. A good possibility that dirt in the oil was coming from the inch of dirt on the bottom of the saw.

Pull choke, set throttle lock, turn switch to ON, pull until it fires, push in choke, pull until it starts, it will rev high, pull throttle trigger to let it idle....that's my usual procedure...

That sweetheart purrs like a happy kitten! Nicely done my friend! I own a chainsaw collection of around 70 saws and half of them are vintage homelites.I have eleven of those saws, Two blue, Three red, Six red & white. Very temperamental chainsaw! Not made for the idiots who think they are loggers and if not aware of what you need to do to make them work properly they don't take long to destroy them! One of the first super EZ Automatic i got from this guy who was wanting to trade for a echo i had. I started talking about how it would not turn over worth a crap! I ask him if he was pushing the compression release in and his answer was ( what's that? ) He was trying to start it without the compression release button pushed in! These chainsaws had a hundred and ninety pounds of compression from the start! What i see alot with these saws is,You must have a sharp chain that is making chips! Dull chain makes air borne sawdust and will pack the saw full and burn it down!

Just a suggestion, instead of using starting fluid that could wash the oil off the insides. You could get an oil squirter and squirt a small amount of fuel mix into the carb. Otherwise an awesome video of an old home lite. I’m currently working on a 240. It runs well but seems to loose fuel and just cuts off. Im hope I g it’s just dirt in the tank. We shall see

It should be ok I use it all the time it saves your arm or in a bigger motor the starter like any good thing you shouldn’t go over kill with it the engine is still getting oil it’s not bone dry I usually try to put the choke in and give a little squirt with carb spray to see if it’ll kick over then I’ll get it gin g without

Nothing wrong with a little starting fluid to get it going. I use it on any type engine when needed. Well I use carb cleaner but same thing. I usually put it in spark plug hole

If you have a 2 cylinder machine that will be sitting for a long time, load up the carb with ATF. It will smoke when you next use it but the carb will be ok.

Just wanted to point out that the information from that website is a lot of times incorrect. Mine has the original bar and it's 14 inch. While the website says shortest bar was 16 inch.
@rephleX67
@rephleX67 3 жыл бұрын
to properly tighten the chain: hold the tip of the bar up like it will when the saw is running, then tighten the chain until the Chain of the bottom side of the Bar is just making contact with the bar, then give it a 1/8 turn because the chain will slighty stretch while the saw is running. Properly tighten a Chain is first important for saftey and second the clutch and his components and sometimes the needle bearing will last longer.

Could you tell me if the EZ automatic and the Super EZ automatic have interchangeable parts? I was just given my grandfathers EZ automatic. It currently is seized up though, due to us living on the gulf coast and a hurricane blew in flood waters. I can find plenty of Super EZ parts but not a lot of "regular" EZ parts. I really want to get this saw running and keep it in my family as you are doing with your grandfathers saw. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hello. I am not exactly sure on the difference between the two. It sounds like a nice unit so I would think it's worth a shot to see if you can get it going! Fill the cylinder with penetrating oil and see if that gives you anything to work with!
