Kansas City didn't intentionally lose the game because they were never in any form of control to intentionally do anything. They got their butts kicked. Bengals are more of a threat than both the broncos and Miami, not only in skill, but the drama between the two teams introduces a level of randomness that's hard to plan for. Its the smart play. If Denver can upset or exhaust the bills, so much the better. Getting to the playoffs is no longer the goal for the chiefs, that parts a given. They have now moved on to regulating who gets in and positioning rivals against each other. Its a conquerors strategy.

I don't think the Chiefs cared if they won or lost the game. It was basically a nothing game to them. They had secured their spot in the playoffs and decided to rest their starters, just like the Bills rested their starters. If the Bengals wanted in the playoffs then they should have played better and won more games in the beginning of the season. The problem with the Bengals is that they did so horribly earlier in the season by the time they started getting their act together and winning games it was too late. They put themselves in the position where they had to rely on other teams winning or losing to even having a have a hope of being in the playoffs. The lesson should be that they should be good and winning right out of the gate and not wait until late November- early December to get in your groove. That is not so much on the players but on the coaches who don't seem to have the team ready to go in September.
