@@JWLSportswhat are you talking about 😂 Montana is ALWAYS discussed whenever we discuss the best QBs ever. Being the all-time leading rushing in a single season would be monumental for Saquon’s legacy which directly impacts his ability to make the Hall of Fame one day (which he is currently not going to make). Legacy is marketed by the media but legacy is all the things we all have argued about for years when discussing who we think the best RBs/WRs/QBs ever are. Hell, a big reason most of us won’t ever listen to an argument saying anyone is better than Jerry Rice, is yes his numbers but also his single season TD record done in only 12 games. It all matters.

I strongly disagree. No, it's not everyday conversation but when talking about the all-time running backs and records, he will always be mentioned. The Super Bowl is not guaranteed. Getting this record would not be that hard. 101 yards against the Giants at home. Who knows when another opportunity like this will come around again. This will not only go down in history for Saquon but the Eagles organization, the o-line and Stoutland as well. Also, they only added 1 more game and this record stood for 40 years. There are only 9 RBs who have gone over 2,000 yards and this is now a passing league.

Is anybody going to talk about the fact that in Baltimore, the wide receivers are open like nowhere else BECAUSE of Lamar and the threat of his carries? Do you think that Lamar wouldn't do even better with a Chase or a Cooper at wide receiver? That makes him the MVP because he's almost the only quarterback who makes his receivers truly OPEN from the snap! And didn't he lose games because of his Goat of a kicker's "momentary" slump ?...

Julian, I understand what you're saying to a point, but I think you are being to contrary about it. Even though past athlete's names and/or accomplishments are rarely brought up in day to day conversations people who follow the game are well aware of what they did, especially if they hold a major record like Eric Dickerson does. When you think about it, Eric Dickerson's name comes up a lot more often than many other running backs who've had far greater careers them him. So it does matter actually.

This was probably your worst take. I hate to say it. 😂
@JWLSports
@JWLSports 3 күн бұрын
Yes their cities. You only proved my point. Barkley would Infinitely be celebrated more by Philly for Winning a Super Bowl than breaking a random single season record. Who is celebrated more, McCoy and McNabb or Nick Foles? We know that answer. And it’s not even close.
@methylphosphatePOET
@methylphosphatePOET 3 күн бұрын
@JWLSports They're celebrated in this way by both their cities and nationally. Look at the heisman winners getting national commercials year after year. I happen to agree that the Super Bowl takes priority as a fan. But NFL legends are revered by society. I just think you understated the cultural impact of NFL legends. I've never seen Walter Payton play outside of highlights, but I get chills every time I hear his name. Same with John Elway, Dan Marino, of course Eric Dickerson, and many other legends.

I’d tell him cool, let’s get this for you and let’s go kick ass but, keep in mind we all want to win the Super Bowl so if at any point it’s not looking like it’s close or that you feel any type of pain anywhere, you are coming out. We what that chip. Bring it up to the entire team. This is sownthing that they ALL will rally around. Not just the players but the coaches. @ hahahaha it shouldn’t be. I’ve been in college locker rooms and players trying to break records and that’s what we did. Pros talk ALL the time about their stats and their college teams. “We killed you guys in college” massive arguments about that. When it comes to professional records not everyone cares and even sowmtimes guys like Saqoun don’t care but, there are many who just want to hit their contract goals and get very selfish for just that alone
@JWLSports
@JWLSports 3 күн бұрын
Oh yeah. Every player no doubt wants their stats. Wants their numbers. I just think when it’s all said and done, it will end up mattering less than people realize. When’s the last time someone brought up Peterson? Tomlinson? It’s all fleeting moments. So it’s not about legacy to me. Legacy is how great you play for your career, the playoffs, etc. Not a single season. So ultimately it’s like Saquon, for your career, how important is this for you? If it’s important to him, have at it I suppose. But also, athletes need to be protected too.

Totally disagree. If you have a record within reach, you always go for it. You never know when you'll ever get a chance to go for something like that again. We saw this not too long ago in another sport. The Warriors late in the 2016 season lost 2 of 3 games to drop to 69-9. They were obviously going for the Bulls' record and ONE loss in the final 4 games was going to stop that. They went for it and got it. With Saquon Barkley, he's a little over 100 shy of history & he can get that in his final game vs the Giants & knowing it's the Giants in the final game, why wouldn't you WANT to give Saquon Barkley a chance to essentially put the cherry on top on his RS by breaking the record against the team who in essence sacrificed him for Daniel Jones, a player who ended up getting released anyway ?

First, Love most of your takes ! You’re one of the few ppl I watch on YT 💪🏽 secondly I disagree because of 2 key points, 1 you don’t play sports to not get injured. Saquon could (knock on wood he doesn’t) get hurt in the first game of the playoffs, and from being a Eagles fan for the last 10+ years we live on the next man up mentality. Not to say it wouldn’t hurt us dramatically if we lost Saquon to an injury. But that’s the last thing on any players mind right now. 2, Saquon has done so much for this team the LEAST we could do is have his name forever be remembered. A Super Bowl does do that but for his legacy alone it would be nice. A lowkey 3rd is breaking the record could send the Eagles confidence level to another dimension just knowing your brothers got your back and are willing to put their bodies on the line for you.

You’re absolutely right and so is Nick Wright. Playing Saquon this week would be an absolute mistake. The record really doesn’t mean shit. If you asked any Eagles fan who had the single season rushing record and how many yards was it BEFORE the season, I doubt more than 5% could tell you. No logical thinking Eagles fan values the record over the potential Super Bowl run. This season has been building for the big game. Not a rushing record. I agree it does kinda suck and it would be fun if he did do it. But it has to be so low on the priority scale that it’s not worth it. Also, I’m almost 100% certain there is no way in hell Howie/Lurie wouldnt even let Sirianni play him if he wanted to lol

They talk about it during all-time discussions, of course that conversation isn’t being had all the time as the storylines are typically season-to-season. Let’s say Saquon has another 3 good years left of 1,600+ all purpose yards (which would already be great longevity for a RB), this record could be the difference between the HoF or not given he was wasted a few years on the Giants. For legacy it absolutely matters.

I disagree with you on this one. Even if they extend the league to 18 games, it will still be challenging to achieve 2,000 rushing yards. Since they extended the league to 16 games in 1978, only eight players have accomplished this feat in the last 46 years! 😂😂

Man these analytics/next gen stats/science guys are ruining football for a lot of ppl. What’s the probability of Saquon getting hurt? Better yet, what’s the most recent example of a star player playing late in the season and getting hurt and it ruined a team’s postseason? Like man, it’s football. Every injury that’s ever occurred has been just what’s comes along with the game of football. Now we’re in a time where we’re trying to be too cautious and end up looking very weak and soft. No one ever mentioned the scenario of Saquon not playing, and we NOT win the Super Bowl.

Legacies definitely matter… my thing is that 2,000 yards and the record don’t differ a whole lot in terms of the legacies they establish.. and he’s got 2,000 already and the whole team can have a bye week, which they haven’t had since week 5.. The risk - reward is the difference between an ALL TIME travesty and a *2,000 yard season* and run to a championship.. not even a legitimate choice in my mind..

As an eagles fan i dont want barkley to get hurt however i want him to get the record. People say yes or no to him getting the record. Not bringing up to looking at this season and what team hes on. He has the best receving core and ol to cover him. Im looking this season he dose not need 25 30 carries and to play all game. Look at the giants game earlier in the season he had 17 carries and 176 yards And in the first quarter vs commanders in week 16 he had 100 yards and a touchdown. I say aslong as the birds protect him he has a chance and if he dose not reach the target by the half pull him.

Yeah I don’t see why the starters don’t treat this as their “not actually 1-seed bye week.” They played a 16 game season and they aren’t getting a bye in the playoffs so why in the world wouldn’t give your starters a week.

Good point on the 18 game season, ultimately this record is bound to be broken very quickly as more and more games are played. It just isn't worth it risking your best player, the OPOY, for a meaningless record. I'd rather have Saquon rest and then see him tear teams apart in the playoffs

While I would agree if this was pretty much any other record, this rushing record is different. We are in a passing era. Its possible that the running era is coming back. But the NFL would rather dramatically change the game than allow that. This record is cracked and breaking it might sit all the way through 20 games when the NFL gets there in 2050

I wouldn't risk it, Superbowl is the reason each year they try to make the " Team " better. This year, they got Saquan, and he's had an amazing year. If you look at the first half's, he's carried the ball 13 or more times, and he hasn't gained 100 yards but blows up and the second half so that mean the whole offense have to play in the second half and the main reason is the Jalen effect of loosing up the defense to rush the ball and Jalen is playing. So I would rest the players to get ready for this run.

I don’t get the distinction you’re making about legacy players and legends of a player’s franchise. Oftentimes, one begets the other anyway. Every name you mentioned can still be found on the backs of jerseys at any sporting event to this day. That’s legacy. Besides, you can’t expect ESPN pundits to constantly bring up past players when their bread and butter is covering the modern NFL. Nick Wright will bring up Jordan Love 10x more than Brett Favre, but not because Love is more legendary than Favre. It’s just that Love is currently playing and Favre isn’t.

Thank of it this way we have to play either commanders or packers and both have to play their starters. We would have rest on both and they risk major injuries also. I would give them a half to get it and that’s it and rest hurts. While the other teams are battling all game.

Letting Sequon play against the Giants is pure folly. Chiefs are resting their starters this week and have the bye. IT's like they will have 3 weeks off before the divisional. Let the Birds rest and recoup for what will be a tough playoff run. And let the Lions and Vikings beat the crap out each other on Jan 5 so they get drained. BTW, if Jalen Hurts has a clause in his contract that he can't even play golf during the season to avoid any potential injury, do you think Jeff Lurie is gonna let one of his star employees risk getting injured (like a high ankle sprain or concussion) in a garbage game and potentially diminish the Birds momentum going into the wildcard game? I hope not.
