If you want proper 3d official furniture without buying the other edition of the core game, you could get Mage of the Mirror & Rise of the Dread Moon for the elven themed furniture. I think you would only be short 1 table if my count isn't off if you get both. If you can only get 1 Mage of the Mirror is best as it has 10 pices, Rise of the Dread moon has 4.

That IS a dice rolling tray, that's why it is put together and doesn't open out like the other tray. :) I was hesitant at getting this but looking at it, the doors are better because your minis wont be angled and can now sit almost level when on a door tile, the new sculpts (i thought they were the same as core set), the dragon (obviously), the cardboard terrain sucks that it's cardboard but at the same time looks better in that it's sized for the tiles but YES, you were spot on with how they shouldhave done furniture retro style and the new quests. questions: do the new quests use the other side of the board or the original board only? if original then i can see them possibly doing a "second" light that adds miniatures and quests for that side of the board. are all the cards the same as core game? i assume the spells are but what about treasure etc?

@WarpaintStudios Makes sense, but the dice jump right out of that thing. 5 out of the 10 quests utilize the new gameboard. There are minor changes to the cards, like the Dwarf starting with a Handaxe, and the Courage card had a subtle change in the way it's cast. Everything else is exactly the same! The original cardboard/plastic furniture from '91 was really great. In some ways I prefer it to the newer all plastic furniture. It came out of the box in color. But to redo that today would increase the overall production cost. They would have to design molds for the furniture ends. I don't know how much cost it would add, but it would not be cheap. Also, space for storage would possibly be an issue. Once you got everything put together, that's a small box to squeeze it back into, especially without breaking anything. I think these flat tokens were the only real option, considering the points they were trying to hit.

I see your point! Moulds are a major cost up front, and they were trying to keep the cost down for a great shelf price. I'm curious to see if it widens their reach for incoming players. We became lifelong fans shortly after opening the box!

nice work. I really wanted to film myself getting it off the shelf. instead, everything was still boxed up in the back, even late into the evening tonight... had to wait about an hour to get it and I got it rung up at the "courtesy desk" (what they call customer service). the guys who helped me were cool, but man, a little lacking in the experience. maybe later I'll make a fake video of me grabbing it off the shelf, just for old time's sake, like it's 1991 again!

Hmm... $50 USD is a bit much, considering the full game with plastic monsters and furniture is often found for $80 on Amazon. For those who already have the base game especially, it's a bit iffy. The new quests on a new board is very attractive, as is the dragon and alternate hero sculpts... Plus an extra set of dice is nothing to sneeze at! I'm still on the fence, though. Unless people start reviewing the quests and give those a huge thumbs-up, I think my money will probably be better served first going towards an expansion. Perhaps later I'll get this to plug holes in the collection. or maybe earlier, if I can find it for cheaper.

I guess the tooling/moulding needed to print even smaller plastic pieces of furniture might have defeated the object of creating a cheaper set. I'm ok with the cardboard tiles if it brings more players to the game.
