My favorite type of fish to catch on finesse gear. Well, stripers for us Norcal folks. Same tactic though. Lipless crank or 3/8 to 1/2oz jighead, white or white/chartreuse tail swimbait. Cast out. Let it sink a bit. Retrieve with the occasional quick pause. They’ll slam it on the pause. Congrats!

Are the shad skipjack? I had to look up wipers. I've never heard hybrids called that before. I come from Tennessee where cut skipjack is king for catfish and hybrid stripers fight like demons. 👍🙂🎣

I watched this on Josh's channel. I like seeing your perspective. I find these videos so interesting because "wipers" are a sea run migratory species where I live in Maine. I have caught some big ones, 32 inch was my biggest. I know a guy who caught a 54 inch striped bass.

What is a wiper? It looks like a small mouth striped bass? I'm from Maine don't think we have those up here if so never caught one.... NVM I looked it up it's just a hybrid fish the stripers we catch up here the schools are normally 5 to 10lb fish but I've caught many over 40inch long with mouths you can fit your head in. They look allot alike other then the mouth

White curly tails. Would have caught your limit if they where there. I used to catch 15 to 20 a day using baby shad or white curlys. Berkeley makes great ones. And no I am not sponsored. I only kept some. But had fun catching the rest. 5 to 7 lb hybrids always fight. And the are actually not that bad to eat. Stripers are a bit too red meat. Oops you did use white. Hope I was that freind. But those where not curly tails. Next time make sure it is a curly tail lol.

You should learn to close your bail with your hand instead of just reeling to close it. This does 2 things for you: it saves your bail spring, plus, if you'll pull slightly on your line as you close it manually, you'll eliminate any backward line accumulation and eliminate twist. Good job on the wiper! *
