I'm showing my age but the first time I heard this song was on an episode of Family Ties. It was the perfect song for that episode. Since then it's been one of my all time favs. On a couple of different playlists of mine. Thanks for reacting to it.

Same! Each time I hear it, I can see Alex P. Keaton getting his heart broken. I was on the phone to the radio station the next day, trying to describe the song to the DJ so I could find out the title and hear it again. It’s a favorite for me too.

Such a GREAT SONG!!! "At this Moment" was destined to become a #1 hit. Upon initial release it stalled on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 79 at the end of 1981. Five years after the original release, the studio version of "At This Moment" was played on several episodes of the NBC sitcom "Family Ties" during the 1985-86 season as the love song associated with Alex P. Keaton and his girlfriend Ellen Reed (played by Tracy Pollan, whom Fox eventually married in real life). It was soon re-released and began a revived chart run, eventually hitting number 1 on both the Billboard Hot 100 and Adult Contemporary charts in January 1987.

It actually WAS inspired by being dumped. A few years ago, Billy revealed who the real woman was, posting her photo on his Facebook page. And he says that he's glad he didn't give away those twenty years that he mentions in the song. He's 80 now and a bit wiser.

Asia, watching the expressions on your face with each word Billy sings says it all. It is obvious the lyrics of this song touched you to the core of your heart and the look you gave BJ when he stopped the music during the bridge...priceless. Billy Vera had an album in the 80s with a bunch of solid gold hits. "In the Corner of the Night", "Hopeless Romantic" and "Here Comes the Dawn" Are the best on that album.
