I agree there is nothing wrong with improving the standard and drawing a line somewhere. While some people may find this to be top tier comedy, I look at it more as shock factor because I know my jaw was on the floor the first time I saw this. I do think people with platforms have a power they should treat with intention, because you can't always control the message people walk away with. Its like making jokes about harassment or assault, nothing is that funny when you realize it happens everyday in reality. @@matthew6427

I am in full support of you introducing her to comedy as edgy as this. But this might have been a bit too early still. She is clearly trying to process the difference between sarcasm and straight talk. She quite clearly has her fundamental outlook and heart in the right place! But this will probably hit differently in five years time. Or maybe it won't. I am obviously not to tell 😊 The point of the sketch is of course the fact that when a black dude can become the leading voice for the racist movement, all his followers themselves become proof of the fallacy of their own conviction of racial superiority. They agreed with everything he said, but only until they saw the color of his skin. Essentially proving that there is no substance behind their ideas of racial supremacy if a black dude can become their leader.

I think weird is just another way of saying its uncomfortable lol which is a pretty fair reaction to this clip. I think what made Dave Chappelle somewhat funny is the level of audacity he had to put this on tv, the shock factor, at the very least kept you tuned in. This is pretty dark satire if you think about the level of hate involved if the story was true. The joke is that nothing this ridiculous could possibly make sense. Dave tends to be a hit or miss with his jokes for me, I grew up watching his show and sometimes real life makes it hard to find the humor in these kind of jokes, if they start to mirror the darker parts of reality & society for laughs and ignore any possible harm as being overly sensitive. Plus I think its completely possible to be a very funny comedian and not go for the dark shock value kind of humor.

It’s been said comedy appeals to intellect, drama appeals to emotion. I don’t blame her for not finding it funny because she’s obviously doesn’t have the life experiences to understand the context of what’s being said. Comedy isn’t just about insulting or mocking others, there has to be a bit of truth behind what’s being said, that’s why Chapelle and Bill Burr get away with what they say. But comedy has a shelf life what might be funny to one generation might not be to another because they don’t understand the context of what’s being said.

What's so satisfying about this sketch is that Dave Chappelle is calling out racism and making it clear just how ridiculous it is. A blind Black man, never having known that he was Black, internalizes and spouts back out the stuff that he heard growing up. Not all younger people have had exposure to as much open racism, so seeing it called out like this without knowing the zeitgeist it was going into doesn't give the sketch the same effect. For anyone who doesn't get it, I suggest reading and watching some books/media from the time or set in the time. That'll give you some context to build from. That's how I got to love "All in the Family," even though I wasn't anywhere near born yet while it was still on the air.

You need to explain it to her correctly...the fact is, that when people use those types of words, the context in which they are used is the barometer of intent. If you watch gran torino for instance, YES...Clint Eastwoods character was very predjudice...but he viewed every race equally as harsh, it simply depended on the individual. Being able to not be offended and recognize the true intent behind his harsh way of communicating and speaking to others wasn't him being racist toward that person, like the barber and him and the construction boss, it's just being wise ass! I have several American black friends who communicate with me the same way! My very best friend in the world is Lebanese, I'd die for him if it came to something like that, but we talk shi t to each other and have for over forty years. Part of The problem is the younger gen is too sensitive, and aren't as able to recognize intent or the inflection of what they're saying to understand the fact of the lack of racist, hateful, or prejudice intent, and become offended. Much of this is because of how much less they communicate face to face as much as we did, rather than always using a phone. They have a greater inability to read people individually. Much of that form of comedy was created to emphasize how ridiculous those who truly hold those beliefs are when their behavior is exhibited.

She doesn’t understand that this is what comedy used to do. It used to take some of the worst social issues, and put a clever twist on it to show how really ridiculous it is. And then show the ridiculous aspects of it in a humorous way. This is how sensible people would escape this stuff. And in laughing at it you were also confirming that, yeah, it’s stupid! Racism is stupid! These kids nowadays just want to deal with it by being sad, and trying to shoosh all of it (through things like cancel culture). Which hasn’t totally worked. It’s just polarized people determined to it. People back then had more than one way to deal with these issues. Comedy like this was one of those ways. Sad that some kids can’t even comprehend this now.

There's a difference between saying the N-word in a comedic sense (which is what Chappelle is using in this skit) and that being used in a negative manner. She seems to not know the difference which is hardly surprising assuming how old she is. What's a skit? You gotta be kidding me. A skit is when creative people come up with an idea and use a setting to play out that idea in practice. To be fair, show her the entire episode, not just one part of it. That way, she'll get a better sense. I understand his frustration because nobody can explain comedy, it comes at you and when it does, you just laugh because you understand its humor. Everytime he has to explain it, the joke gets less meaningful. This is real comedy, not that poppycock basket case Hanna what's-her-face turning a "comedy special" into a God damn 2 hour therapy session on what people need to do instead of what she needs to do which is to get her ass off the stage and get sent to an insane asylum because the audience payed $200 each to be entertained, not to be preached by a confused tool. I apologize for my rant. If you want to show her more of Chappelle's work, show her some episodes of the show and perhaps, show her the Boondocks too. Show her other comedians too like George Carlin and Jeff Ross. Fun fact: the guy that had his head blow up, his name is Neil. He's one of the writers for the show. For the information, he did make fun of white people, two groups: the guys in the car listening to rap music and the audience that attended Bigsby's book signing. What this skit was doing was not promoting racism, it was making fun of it. How do you make fun of racism? By ridiculing people who believe in it. Dave Chappelle knew that and people who are Generation X and Y understood it all too well. This skit, like many others, are not to be taken seriously, it's to be taken lightly. Here's a little history for her: Back then, if anyone was offended, they could've done 1 of 2 things. The first would be to suck it up which means having a tough skin and being mature minded to rationalize that if it's not funny to that person, it will be to another and vice versa. The 2nd would be to simply change the channel, listen and watch something else. That's what mature people do. The majority of Gen Z and Alpha are completely unable to do either of those. Even if they weren't privy to humor like that, it would've been nice if they respected the comedian's legal right to say whatever comes out of their mind. That girl's teacher must have no sense of humor or may be intellectually immature to ignore the frickin disclaimer at the beginning then. Everyone in my middle school and high school loved the Chappelle Show because we understood it. Even older elementary students would watch it.
