Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief MOVIE REACTION! Today I'll be watching a film I have never seen before Percy Jackson released in 2010 for the first time. Watch the ENTIRE Movie with me? Check out: / timotheereacts
Always trouble-prone, the life of teenager Percy Jackson (Logan Lerman) gets a lot more complicated when he learns he's the son of the Greek god Poseidon. At a training ground for the children of deities, Percy learns to harness his divine powers and prepare for the adventure of a lifetime: he must prevent a feud among the Olympians from erupting into a devastating war on Earth, and rescue his mother from the clutches of Hades, god of the underworld.

In both the books and actual greek mythology Hades isn't evil and he doesn't want to take over Olympus. He's actually the most decent of the gods, helping out young demigod heroes, managing the underworld and being faithful to his wife which is rare for the gods. And another fact in the original mythology Poisedon forced himself on Medusa (who was a priestus of Athena)at Athena's holy temple and Athena cursed Medusa out of spite and jealousy.

Nice reaction. You missed the post-credit scene. Percy locked his mother's fridge and put up signs saying "Do not open". Gabe, of course refused to be "bossed around" by his step-son, so he cut the lock and opened the fridge, only to be confronted by Medusa. As the scene fades out, you can hear the sound of Gabe turning to stone.

I actually watched the movies before I read the books. I do agree that the books are a whole lot better and more detailed than these movies were. The movies were more of a guilty pleasure so they’re OK when you’re not comparing them to the books. However the series is on par with the books and I highly recommend you check it out. There is a stage musical The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical that’s also worth checking out as well; you can find a video of it on KZbin of the full production. 💙🔱🐚🌊

35:21, the better question is “how did you do that?” to which the answer is, in the book he broke into the Underworld and stole the Helm of Darkness from Hades so he could become invisible even to gods and then stole the lightning bolt from Zeus to start a war but was stopped by Ares who decided to go along with the plan since (as the god of war) that’s what he wanted while Luke secretly enchanted the flying shoes he gave Percy to drag him down to Tartarus so that Kronos could escape and murder all the Olympians but Percy gave the shoes to Grover since Percy’s afraid of flying and as a result Luke’s plan didn’t work

Yea the movie is definitely good, it's what got me into the books. I do think that the movie is more likable than the show in my opinion and here’s why: the actor Logan looks and has the exact personality as Percy’s character in the book. He was just older. Alexandra in the movie did actually play Annabeth well because she showed she was a wise girl and not just bossy. They showed the gods were both appearing as human and were god-like. Just as they do in the book buying showing aura or something or a display with their power like ares shows his power his eyes glowing red or fueling someone’s anger when talking to him. The show didn’t really show that for the gods. The show has a more casual depiction of the series while the movie is more serious. And the movie was good at showing how tragic the demigods' lives were because they showed the physical and the emotional abuse of Gabe. That’s exactly how he was in the book. He even hit Percy’s mom at some point. Sally just took it and was always sweet to protect her son. In the show Gabe is just a lazy stepdad who didn’t really care. The pacing is better in the movie and so is the build up. The show was not very good at doing that. Yes the show has more scenes from the book that makes it somewhat more accurate, however the way they depicted all the scenes in the show weren’t entirely accurate. For example, going to the lotus hotel in the book was a chance for them to make all their dreams come true and to live a life where they get to act like normal kids. They were depicted well in the movie and not in the series. Mostly they were rushed because it's a show and it's 30 to 40 minutes long each episode. However, the first Harry Potter book was basically as long as the first Percy Jackson book. And they included everything from the first Harry Potter book in the first movie. And the movie was 1 to 2 hours long and they never missed an emotional scene or accuracy of a Scene from the book. And they included every scene. The Percy Jackson series if you add all the episodes up by their time it's at least 5 hours long. So they actually would have found some sort of way to include everything including build ups, displays of power, and emotional impacting scenes. Like the series tin man made in 2007 had only 3 episodes but each one was an hour and 33 minutes. long. It all added up to 4 hrs 28 minutes long. They included a lot of emotional scenes, build up, and good pacing. And it felt like you were watching 2 seasons of a show. They could’ve done the same thing with the Percy Jackson series. I feel like the movie has certain attributes of the book that the show doesn’t and the show has certain attributes of the book that the show doesn’t. I think they both need to combine.

34:23, this is where it’s get harder for me to ignore the book and enjoy the movie for what it is. In the book, the Minotaur killed Sally but a prophecy told Percy that he’d go to the Underworld in search of his mother and the bolt (which Percy believed Hades stole) while being betrayed by a friend but in what matters most he would fail. When Percy makes it to the Underworld, both Grover and Annabeth are willing to stay behind so Sally can leave but Percy refuses to allow a friend to die for him and instead suggests himself but his mother refuses to allow that so Percy leaves the Underworld without Sally and realizes he failed in what matters most. I like that version a lot better than this one.

31:43, okay, Persephone’s presence in this movie doesn’t really make sense. As the goddess of spring and rebirth she spends her winters in the Underworld with Hades but re-emerges in the spring and lives with her mother Demeter in summer. So she wouldn’t be in the Underworld before the summer solstice

In the books it explained that Zeus, Poisedon and Hades (the big three) made an oath not to have anymore children because a prophecy said one of their children would destroy Olympus. Zeus and Poseidon IMMEDIATELY broke the oath and had basterd children being the biggest horn dogs of the gods. Grover, Annabeth and the other camper's didn't know Percy was the son of a Poseidon until he claimed Percy. And Everyone thought Percy was the son of Zeus since most demigods were are and Zeus is a banged every woman he saw.

This one is a weird case... Is it a good movie? Yeah... It has it's flaws, but it's more than enjoyable. Is it a good book to movie adaptation? Nope, far from it. Take it from someone who read them all 5 10 times. This is barely similar to the source material. Rick Riordan (the author) really expressed how much he didn't like what they were doing with his creations, starting with making it a "teenager" movie, Percy is supposed to be 12 in this. And yet the second movie was even worse for that, I'm actually convinced that because of what they did and did not do in the first 2 movies (characters missing, major events missing, objects not working properly), they couldn't even try to make the third, even less the other 2. Oh and even the source material of the source material (the mythology) was butchered too. Honestly, if I had read the novels before I saw the movies, I would probably have hated them. Even though I'm happy I was introduced to it all trough the movies, I'm really glad they didn't go further. The new series that came out though, now we're talking! It may not be totally accurate, but it's so much better!

When I found out it was inaccurate to the books, I started to dislike it but after seeing that it's still somewhat good and the idea that the books, the movie, the musical and the show can just multiple universes I'm like "Ehhh, I guess looking at it like that is much better than being a hater", also I do reccomend you see the show because it's still so shocking and especially one specific scene of Luke, Annabeth and Percy that I also think you would like. The Disney+ series “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” is better, definitely more true to the book so I heard

Not that much more "true", it made a lot of changes too, most for the worse, plus is just more boring.

Ah this movie's a classic for me and my intro to Percy Jackson, it changes a lot from the book? Yes, but it's a FUN time unlike this new good for nothing TV show, Rick the author talked so much shit about this movie then proceeded to make something worse.

I really liked this movie when it came out. This is before I read the books. Even though it doesn’t fully follow the book, it’s still SO much fun to watch. And it feels like an adventure.

This was one of my childhood favorite movies and watched it a lot as a kid since Greek Mythology was one of my favorite topics, but that was before I read the books. After reading the books I saw all the inaccuracy and inconsistencies in the movie. Movie in itself was great still, just not entirely book accurate. The new series on Disney+ tho was so much more book plot accurate despite having creative changes. Definitely worth the watch.

It’s “more accurate” but it’s not as fun. Pretty dull overall but has it moments for sure!

This movie is not only disrespectful to the source material, but it's also just plain insulting to the fans of the books and the series as a whole. This movie completely ruins the whole plot, premise, and characters that we grew to love in the books. Luke's reveal in the final chapter of the book is clever, heart-wrenching and very suspenseful. The way they revealed in the movie was they have him be suspicious and obvious right out the gate. This movie also completely ruined Hade. In the book he was a fake out villain, and quite a trick tragic character. But in this garbage dump of a movie they make Hades the main villain when it makes no sense for him to be the main villain at all, both in the context of this story and in greek mythology in general, While completely skipping over the actual villain of the first book Aries and the main villain of the overarching story of the whole series, Kronos. Not to mention the writing as a whole is just terrible. Characters say lines that they would never you're saying in the, They act like they never would in the, And just by casting older people rather than children specifically twelve-year-olds it completely destroyed the message and theme of the entire series. The author of the books, Rick Riordan, wrote Percy Jackson as a bedtime story for his son who has both dyslexia and ADHD.
