Such a beautiful song. This song closes out one of my favorite albums of the 80s. So many great songs on this album.

I'm a new listener, as well as subscriber, to your channel. After being so happy to watch your reaction to R.E.M.'s "So. Central Rain (I'm Sorry)" I discover that you've reacted to this, one of my very favorite songs by 10,000 Maniacs! I can't wait to see what other surprises I find on your channel!

She's an original. Nobody sounds like her. They wish they did. ❤❤

Wonderful selection Sarah, and lovely reaction, as usual! NatalieM is on vacay at the beach, and hears Verdi's opera Aida playing thru the wall while she begins each day... She "steals" his room service "tea" (pastries) left in the hallway on his tray cuz he doesn't eat them, and she draws in the sand by the sea, remembering this time many yrs later. Simple&sublime.

yes and there is more to do with the opera he is listening to "Aida", she draws a jackal headed woman in the sand. Don't know the story of that opera but it is about Ancient Egypt.

I had a cassette and CD of this song and album, and was always blown away by this one in particular. But finally seeing what it says takes it to another level. What a masterpiece! She deserves a head on Rushmore.

Saw her perform this in Virginia at the height of their stardom when this album was charting. It was the final song and it was her solo at a grand piano and I was about 10 feet away. It was a club show at a converted boathouse and so the crowd/bar noise carried a little bit too much for her liking during this tender and emotive song, and she stopped and said “hey what is this, a football (soccer) match?”

You have to hear their version of Because the Night. Her voice is unbelievable

Yea, wish the person had requested that one instead of this one. Too slow and boring. 😊

Somebody said that "her voice sounds like a fuzzy blanket that you want to wrap yourself in". Baby Girl, listen to the lyrics and do some research THEN tell us your reaction. PLEASE? Verdi wrote an opera set in ancient Egypt, "Aida". I never did get the reference to that, no idea what Aida is about. Thanks

Poor choice of song for someone who’s never heard 10,000 Maniacs. This is a slow song that doesn’t represent their overall sound as a band very well. They have a lot more uptempo songs, and Natalie’s voice is usually lower and edgier. She’s singer in her higher register on this one.

This is never a poor choice. It’s a beautiful song!

Beautiful voice, but, I too have never figured out if there is a meaning to the lyrics 😊
