Jodeci is what happened to male r&b. They were singing but dressing and looking like rappers, baggy jeans hangin' tim boots no shirts or tank tops, hat on backwards. Jagged Edge also. I think it's just an example of how powerful Hip Hop is takes over everything. Hip Hop can sample and genre of music, rock, classic, showtunes, theme songs and it becomes a Hip Hop song but if any of those genres sample Hip Hop, Hip Hop doesn't change to rock or pop or classic, It stays Hip Hop, that's power!
@nawfsidemoe98582 жыл бұрын
I think the question was “what ruined male R&B”. But what u said was all facts
@mjareacts27312 жыл бұрын
What? Jodeci didn't ruin male R&B! It's true that they had a street vibe, but more babies was made to their music than any other R&B song in the 90s.
@telldetruth92592 жыл бұрын
There was people like that before Jodeci and that was also just the style
@jskee20022 жыл бұрын
All of Y'all are correct in what u saying. I not sayin' Jodeci ruined r&b but they changed the image of what r&b looked like. We all know New Edition mainly Bobby Brown is king of all that bad boy stuff but they still got down in three piece and sequenced suits and had dance moves and all that, throwback to like the J5. Jodeci had a different image and it looks like a lot of the current r&b male artists take their que from Jodeci because of the way they looked and carried themselves but make no mistake, Jodeci are legends and I recognize the contribution to the game 💯

Yeah Male R&b groups pretty much died out after B2K & Pretty Ricky stopped making music. Jagged Edge was kinda the last official one that i can remember. Boyz 2 Men lasted a long time & had their last album around 2017. Believe it or not? 112 actually released an album in 2017 as well. But BOTH male AND female groups don't get radio play anymore at all! Female groups struggle as well. I once read the dynamic of keeping the peace & harmony between multiple people in a group is hard to manage. Its easier to work by yourself as an individual artist instead of multiple artists based on Drama in the past. Lots of R&B groups broke up because of disagreements & arguments. Some of it was Contract rules & agreements too. The Industry can be a Bitch, I've heard.

i really think from a business sense groups are harder to maintain. with as meager revenues are for musicians, splitting the pie so many ways becomes untenable unless you're BTS/One Direction huge. artists can do so much more with so much less personnel these days. sonically, i do miss groups. not many left male or female.
