For context, this performance was for the Kennedy Center Honors - a national recognition of lifetime achievement in the arts. So, Adam was selected to perform one of Cher's songs as a representation of her artistry, the year she was chosen as an honoree (2018).

a suggestion: when you're going to do a 'first listen' to someone's cover of another artist's song, listen to the original first. if you had listened to Cher's original 'Believe' you would have been even more blown away with Adam's rendition. Adam is the MASTER of the 'cover song'. he is, quite simply, ASTOUNDING! enjoyed your vid...thank you! hope you have a chance to do more Adam Lambert 'first listen' reviews...hopefully, more of his original songs...he never fails to deliver! ❤

Cher put this song out around 1998 as an upbeat 'techno pop' single that I think made #1. Adam's version was definitely slowed down. But incredibly as good, if not better, than Cher's original version. His vocals are incredible.

To be fair, we forget how groundbreaking Cher's song believe was in terms of production
@CandleLight1974 Жыл бұрын
Cher's original version was an upbeat, disco/techno number. Though it had been written as a ballad and intended for her to sing it as such, the producers saw it as an opportunity to make use of new technology at the time and it became the first hit to use the vocoder. This later became known as "autotune" leading to the incorrect belief that Cher needed it to correct her singing in the studio. She didn't and has performed the song many times live without the "special effects". It made #1 in 21 countries, including the US (where it was the biggest selling song of 1999) and UK (where it was the biggest selling song of 1998), over 33 years since her last #1 before it - the longest gap in either chart's history. It entered the Billboard 100 at 99 in December 1998 and made #1 in March 1999 but went straight in at #1 in the UK charts in October 1998 and stayed there for seven weeks. At 52, Cher became the eldest female singer to achieve a #1 in the US and UK and remains the eldest to do so with a first-time release in both charts - only beaten by Mariah Carey in the US who was 53 when the annually re-released 'All I Want for Christmas' made #1 in 2022, and Kate Bush in the UK who was 63 when 'Running Up That Hill' (originally released in 1985) made #1 in 2022 after being featured in 'Stranger Things'.

You probably know over 25 Cher hits, without knowing that they’re Cher!! She has been in the limelight since the early 70s when she and Sonny had their own TV show watched by 30 million people each week! Cher is timeless. She is an icon in pop culture. She’s incredibly smart and creative and she’s also an actress. Her version of this song is very bouncy and pop and upbeat. Adam Lambert took this and made it his own and almost turned it into a ballad so to speak. I loved how you were smiling as you were watching him sing. Just out of pure enjoyment of his angelic voice. I do believe that Adam Lambert is one of the finest, if not THE finest, male vocalist on the planet today. He is absolutely unbelievable. Loved your reaction when he belts out that last note and you stopped and said “what happened.?!” The answer is Adam happened!! He started out in children’s theater. And just a fun fact about Adam… He’s actually a natural blonde! (Seriously!) Keep doing what you’re doing, we really enjoy your reactions!

@daydreaminmylif well, your semi-correct! He’s not an actual redhead-redhead. He’s officially “strawberry blonde!” Oh my goodness, he looks absolutely gorgeous with the dark dark hair. He is one beautiful guy inside and out.

After this Cher gave Adam the rights to record his own ballad version seen here. She was so moved! Tears. She was the long black haired woman shown the last 3 times and giving a standing ovation! I believe this was written by Cher with all of this emotion originally but it was put into a techno dance track and flew up the Charts. I think she was so moved hearing her own words in its original form!

One of the things that makes Adam so fantastic (Other than his voice), is his ability to make a son his own. You can see this during his idol days. He works with musicians and changes the arrangement, and makes it better, and he owns everything he sings. To include when he sang with Queen. And YES, than is Chers song "Believe", it tore up the charts and became a dance favorite. I do believe Cher was one of the first to use the "Voice correct" which gives her song a unique sound.

You recognized Reba but not Cher? She was the one shedding light tears off both sides of her face. It was very emotional, not just because Adam slowed it down and you could listen to the words. Cher was also crying because of the reason she wrote it. Cher wrote the song after Sony and her split up. Would she be able to find Love again after Sony left? She was very young and suddenly only. Cher has said this in interviews. Adam did an Outstanding performance to sing a Cher song during The Kennedy Center Honors.
