Next time I'll remember to upload the thumbnail with the video too! Haha. Pause For Effect... I'm still learning as I go. As I'm learning the ins and outs of reacting, I'm learning a lot about myself and how I view things going on around me. It's been an interesting ride. I loved these two episodes, with Buggy's voice performance being the absolute highlight! WOW. What incredible range!

Buggy is one of my top 30 characters but far from top 10. I can't wait for you to see more from legends like Mihawk, Shanks, and many other big time pirates. Prepare for better fights going forwards too. Luffy v Arlong is much better in the source material.

37:00 This song is called "Mother Sea" the song that always makes me cry. Fun Fact it is actually a slowed down version of the first Opening song We Are. Orange Town I've looked back at recently and I appreciate it far more now than when I first watched it. The dog's backstory is sad but it's determination is so beautiful.

I really love the Live Action Buggy, but anime Buggy is really such a completely different character. I think I prefer the LA Buggy, but in truth, the original Buggy was from a time before every clown villain had Joker vibes.
@Noxiddar
@Noxiddar Жыл бұрын
I could see the Joker comparison, but I really felt the performance was far more intentional than "just sound maniacal and crazy." He really sounds like a one man band. But each sound or instrument also sounds like a split personality, with its distinct pitch, tone, and resonance. It makes me think of the sounds from that scene in Merry Poppins where Bert had all those instruments attached to him, and they make the most obnoxious honks and groans, but it was funny. And I can't help but think there was at least some thought about what it means to be a pirate engrossed in the clown and circus theme. Live Action Buggy, for the little screen presence he had in his introductory episode, REALLY sold the idea of someone spurned by the success of another (Shanks). I know I'll be getting to the flashback in the anime that explains it, but I thought Jeff Ward did SO much heavily lifting in such a short order, even though we got to see more of him in more situations in the LA. I'm looking forward to getting to see more of this Buggy performance, though!

He's very much more of a grimy, fail upwards type of character. But he's hilarious and dresses like a clown. His DF isn't the best but is exactly the opposite of Luffys. Immunity to edged weapons or other physical weapons is still good.

Have you ever seen Parks and Rec? I feel like Andy Dwyer when he is shining shoes and making all these tips for his personality, and he just looks at the camera and says, "I have no idea what I'm doing, but I know that I'm doing it really well." That's basically what it feels like to me when people tell me I'm doing a great job at analysis. Haha. I'm not an expert on anything, so instead, I just kind of wing it. *ikiataribattari*! I appreciate the compliment and the insight! Learning these things is so great for expanding my understanding and deepening my appreciation!

The sound design behind Buggy and his voice performance just gives me chills. There is so much to it that it just transforms what would be an otherwise "clown pirate that's like the Joker" into a wholly incredible individually realized character. I really think it's my favorite voice performance in the show so far by a mile!

I don't want to spoil anything but you talking about Luffy experiencing shell shock from watching someone's treasure being destroyed really got me thinking about later episodes of the show. And I don't know if Oda had really fleshed out that part of Luffy at this point in the series so it might be a case of retroactive confirmation, but he's absolutely seen dreams end before.

Haha. The intro is definitely more of an allegory of how I respond in my head to when people tell me what I need to do. I don't have that red beard and stubborn disposition for nothing! Honestly, I'm just noticing that it's a lot of fun to record, but it can make taking hours of recording in to edit a chore every time. I think this 2 episode group was just shy of 2 hours. So, I'm really thankful people are enjoying what I do, I'm just afraid of burning out in the editing room before they see what I've done. It's definitely a double-edged sword.

Dug the analysis on Buggy’s voice! The themes with treasure in Orange Town set up motivations in the future. And I loved chochu going against Richie. It’s like a visualization of the most ferocious threat to your dream and then still defending that. Another w reaction!
@Noxiddar
@Noxiddar Жыл бұрын
I definitely took that analysis to the nth degree. Haha. But it was so fascinating to me, because I was expecting to make more of a comparison to, say, Mark Hamill's Joker. And there's some comparisons to be made to be sure, but Joker's playfulness comes from his complete descent into madness, chaos, and anarchy. Buggy felt like someone with multiple personality disorder that was at constant war, for which voice would take control. It was like he was caught between wanting the love of his crew and the fear of his enemies. It was so wildly inconsistent in the delivery, but not in the way an amateur delivery would be. I really felt like I was listening to a master voice performer at work. I absolutely loved hearing it for the first time!

There's two notable stories about dogs like you're talking about; that's the Japanese Hatchiko that was about a dog that would wait for his owner every day at the train station for him to come home. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hachik%C5%8D The other is Scottish, Greyfriars Bobby, which was a had a similar story (though a hundred or so years before) about a dog that would similarly wait at his owners grave. The dogs got a statue in Edinburgh. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greyfriars_Bobby

Buggy's casting, fight,vocal work, changes were all near perfection. My only grip is that netflix was way to reliant on knocking out their characters to get them in the situation they need them to be in. (Zoro in in syrup village being the 'worst' offense). My main nitpick is they didnt show buggy's most insane feats that put him on par with even the most recent villians. He scared Zoro's BACK! And SWOLLOWED A WHOLE PINEAPPLE! LOL

I liked Jeff Ward's acting a lot in the OPLA, but his portrayal feels very Joker to me, more than scrummy clown Buggy. It terms of sound and energy, I think Charlie Day would have been perfect (see Charlie in "Always Sunny in Philadelphia", add the deviousness of Dennis and scrummyness of Frank)
@Noxiddar
@Noxiddar Жыл бұрын
Charlie Day would be pretty fun. I agree with him seeming more like the Joker when he leaned into the more sinister aspect of Buggy. But when he was generally being goofy, I actually felt like his energy was channeling more of Michael Keaton's Beetlejuice. He was definitely up to no good, but very playful about going about it, in a way that at times felt non-threatenjng. With the Joker, he sounded playful, but everything he said and did was so heavily laced in madness. Like he fed off of fear that chaos brought. Buggy wanted adoration. I feel like Joker is too on the no--God, now it's in my head! 🤣

I knew in my early to mid 20s that where I was and what I experienced was special. But it really wasn't until years later up to now that I understand how special where I was and what I experienced was to ME. I don't think I'd be able to make a reaction series like this if I were younger. It would have a totally different vibe. It's funny. The dopamine rush of seeing bigger numbers elicits quite an excitement. But truly, I'm not too fussed about performance and metrics. I've sat in Japanese translations playing guitar and singing until my fingers were raw and bloodied, and my voice could scant hold a tune. What gave me fresh life was seeing someone walk by and watch their entire demeanor change. A whole moment could turn someone's life around, even if but for another fleeting moment. That, for me, is the ultimate high. And knowing that I've had the chance to hopefully do that for a few already. It's all the treasure I need. @Noxiddar 11 ай бұрын
It really is! I was incredibly surprised. People likened it to Joker, but I don't think so beyond the theatrical overdramatic flair. But Buggy is doing way more musical things with his voice. He sounds like an orchestra warming up. His voice slides in scales, and it gets shrill and trill, but it also gets low and weighty. I always saw Mark Hamill's Joker as more of a maniacal showman. Emphasis on maniacal, where the showman nature was in his presentation. But Buggy is a contrarion caught between wanting to be loved for what he does and feared for who he is. He sees pirates as cutthroat killers, but he wants to give everybody a show too (like when he convinces the crew he swallowed the DF) and for the moment he reveled in his own performance before Shanks ruined it. I always feel like characters in One Piece need time to cut through the layers of personality. So, I often find it tedious when I do come around the random dismissive comment about him sounding like the Joker. (Not you, of course, now I'm on a soft rant. Haha) That's so awesome that you are finding new things to appreciate. That's certainly my goal with reacting to this series is to just stop and appreciate things. I've been trained so much by western Hollywood fluff to just shut my brain off and consume. So I'm LOVING being able to actually watch something that makes me think, and most importantly, appreciate the art and production that went into it! ☝️✌️🏴‍☠️
