@thecobra8822 жыл бұрын
@send1treacts since he’s using electric the notes are read by the vibration of the string and the magnetic field the string has. So with tapping he can alter the amount of vibration above the pickup for the same note

Or you know, a simple way is that you can play notes higher up while still playing lower down the neck. (Basically guitar multitasking) A great song to listen to is ‘Midnight’ by Joe Satriani. the entire song (i think) is tapping. Side note: Tapping is also a way of playing a note without having to pick it/fingerpick it. The sheer strength of the tap itself produces the sound.

Tapping usually plays the pitch of the string that is tapped at the fret where it was tapped, but quieter, and it isn't a gentle tap. It is very difficult on acoustic guitars, but with electrics (and their more flexible and sensitive strings), tapping is very useful when playing a note far away from where the playing hand is. Anyone feel free to fact-check me as this is off memory.

So on the neck of the guitar if he is playing a. one with the pick and then taps a note anywhere on that string, for however long he taps that note the sound that comes out will be that note which is why in that bit he's playing a note and then when he taps it goes higher for a brief moment before going back to the original note. hello, guitar enthusiast here, on report! Obviously, The Dooo is doing a lot of things that create different sounds on that instrument. That's a very well built instrument, and Dooo is fully fluent in the language of the guitar, that's the first thing one must know, in case it isn't obvious. He isn't amazing at one thing, or a few things. He's spectacular at everything. Bending a string creates 'bad' notes between notes, and the swale that comes from the sound is different than a pick of the string because it isn't sudden, its constant. And since your ear hears it as the note moves and 'bends', it doesn't sound bad, where if he were to strum at the wrong 'bend point', it wouldn't sound very nearly as good. The tapping does create a different tone, it creates three rapid notes every time he does it, the note playing on the string before the tap, and the hammer on/pull off notes. Most guitarists can hammer on with their fret-board hand. It's a fluttery sound when the notes or 1,2, or 3 frets apart, but after that, it doesn't sound fluttery, depending on the feeling a guitarist is trying to create, a tap can create a number of different tones. I haven't mastered it at all, but the short answer is yes, tapping makes a different sound than a pick or a strum. The Dooo can create a few squealing tones. There's a type of note that's called a harmonic. It sounds airy and light, almost like the sound a bell makes. However, with a harmonized note, a guitarist can make it scream as well on an electric. at 3:49 , There's a harmonic squeal that he creates (I never mastered this, so this is the best i can understand it.) He's also using a whammy bar that 'bends' ever string at the same time. If he pulls up, the entire guitar tightens, and all the notes playing on it bend upward. If he pushes down on the bar, it does the opposite and lowers every note. He definitely has pedals by his feet, a distortion that separates his 'clean' sound from his 'solo' tone. He never solos without hitting his distortion. He might have a few other pedals that effect his sound, but I'm not sure if he's exposed his pedal board. And finally, he's doing things and sounds that I can't understand. Hope this helped, lol

So with tapping, there are scales that he is playing and scales have different positions. For example the pentatonic scale has 5 positions which you normally play 2 notes per string, diatonic has 7 and usually play 3 notes per string. when he taps just for example his fretting hand could be on a 4th position area and he can tap a note over in the 6th position

So there’s a couple of ways to go about from strumming to tapping! 1. You can think of tapping as an extension of a chord or sequence of scales/arpeggios that fit perfectly within the context. 2. In terms of sound, yes, because when you saw him go from strumming, strumming the strings tends to be with more attack, giving off a more punchier abrupt sound. With tapping, it’s basically an extension of a hammer on, which is a term used to, effectively hammer a fret with your finger and not pick it, resulting in a lighter, softer sound. Hope that helps pal 🥰
@lespaul362 жыл бұрын
Tapping can be used a number of different ways. It can be for adding a note that your fret hand cannot get to so you can let the other notes ring. You can tap harmonics. Add a high note out of no where by tapping it. Increase the speed of the notes being played. There are too many things to really list, but those are probably the most common.

Along with some other comments on tapping I'm seeing, the difference is also it's technically plays the note he taps, aside from simply strumming while holding the string down. Makes it significantly easier to play much faster and with a very particularly clean sound. Insanely difficult to do well and fluently. His other originals are also great showcases of his skill

Taping on the neck instead of picking the string gives hime one more note. You can hear the note where he taps and when he lifts his finger also gives power to the string just like a pull off.

In relation to the guitar question: Technically, it's not strumming, it's picking, sorry!
