Nice one, thanks! The song's tittle, "BABYMETAL DEATH", is a pun with the Japanese word "desu" (meaning "I am" or "we are"). So, the title means "We are BABYMETAL". Also, the lyrics spoken by them (chants aside) are: "SU-METAL desu, MOAMETAL desu, MOMOMETAL desu, BABYMETAL desu". So, they are literally introducing themselves since this was (and is again since this performance) their usual show opener. This is from BABYMETAL Begins - The Other ONE - Clear Night, Momometal's first show as a full-fledged member and they were nervous about the crowd's response to that announcement (they did it in the end of the previous show the day before, Black Night). And believe me, that was a big deal. Crowd's response? Cheering louder for her when she was announced and here, every time she introduced herself. That's an epic win! 🤘🦊

For those who say BABYMETAL is not metal, I give you this performance. OTFGK, but an interesting take posted on BABYMETAL REDDIT by VulpineDeity: Take it a step farther. Not only does 'SU-METAL DESU' mean she's introducing herself, it's also her super-hero transformation phrase. Like on Sailor Moon, Usagi says 'Moon Prism Power!' and turns into Sailor Moon, Suzuka Nakamoto shouts 'I am SU-METAL' and becomes possessed by the spirit of the Fox God and transforms into the Metal Goddess SU-METAL. The magical girl who transforms into a hero is a huge trope in Japan, comparable to Disney princesses in the west. BABYMETAL DEATH! follows the trope and it's the moment that they all transform into their magical alter egos at the start of the show. 🦊 🦊 🦊 🖖 ❤

A couple things. This is NOT their 10 year anniversary show. That was at Budakon in 2021. This WAS filmed at the PIA Arena in 2023. Also, the crowd is spelling out BABYMETAL and it's their part of the song, the girls never sing that part. Also, this was Momo's first concert as an official member. That's why the crowd gave her a huge cheer when she said her part, "Momo-Metal Desu".

Great reaction. 'BABYMETAL DEATH' was the first song on the first album - of course it was, what better way to introduce themselves to the world (other than the singles they'd released in the previous 3 years of course). The whole song is based on a pun. The English word death sounds to a Japanese speaker like the Japanese word desu (the U is silent) spoken with a slight lisp. Desu means to be - as in I am, we are, it is etc. Basically the lyrics for this song (and yes the crowd have their own lines) are: "B_A_B_Y_M_E_T_A_L" ... "I am Su-metal", "I am Yuimetal", "I am Moametal" "We are BABYMETAL" ... "Death Death Death Death Death Death Death Death". Usually it would be the first song of a concert - at some like Legend 1997 it was a special occasion, so they used it for the finale ... I would highly recommend you watch that ... there is another very obvious homage to Metallica and their Justice For All tour of 1989 at the end. They also make very good use of a neck brace as an homage to X Japan's legendary drummer Yoshiki who had to wear one after damaging his neck headbanging. The opening riff is an homage to Metallica's 'One'. They didn't play BABYMETAL DEATH at all after 2017 (Yui was not performing and she left the band in October 2018) ... until they brought it back here as the first encore at the PIA Arena on April 2nd 2023 after Momometal was revealed the nigbht before as the new third member - and the loudest cheers happened when she introduced herself "Momometal desu".

this one leverages the japanese love of puns ... "death" sounds like the japanese word "desu" (apparently the "u" is silent) , where "desu" means "we are" - so this is really just a really elaborate introduction piece. quite fitting for a set opener. not to mention that "Babymetal Death" just sounds metal AF 🤘 (there are lots of little puns scattered throughout the BM lore)

This was the show opener up until 2017 when Yui fell ill and subsequently left the band. It really needed three members. It was resurrected (spot the pun) whe Momo became a full member. This was her first show on April 2nd 2013, hence the loud cheer when she said her name. Although traditionally the opening number there have been occasions when it closed the show. To see a good one look for the Legend 1997 concert (Su's 16th birthday party in 2013). I won't spoil the ending but it's spectacular 😜👍
