Bassist Misa is ALWAYS amazing. Sounds like she is just riffing and doing impro all thru the song ....but she isn't. She has musical training in other instruments from early age. What she does is special . Besides a monster tone ( she also studied audio engineering before bass too.) I figure Misa's thing to be this. Rather than blindly follow chord patterns , she follows the phrases of the main vocal but NOT note wise so much , but creates harmonies to vox melody and then throws fills and runs in the vocal gaps. Along with drummer Akane's constant barrage of feel changes , dbl kick blast beats, half time , on time , down beats, 1/4 note triplets and general drum mayhem , the rhythm section may sound chaotic and confronting at first listen. But studio versions are exactly same. Misa grew up with her mother playing her The Who Live At Leeds, Flea and Smashing Pumpkins. The only reason this works for Misa is Akane's timing is deadly accurate, and she never makes mistakes. Somehow Misa does all that she does coloration wise , and STILL gets it to combine with drums beautifully. Insane rhythm section you wont hear anywhere else on this planet !

@gordowg1wg145Ай бұрын
Don't worry about using specific musical terms - most of us are learning al ot from reactors, like you, who actually know about music 👍😎 As you seem to be rather keen on MISA, the bass player, make sure you pay attention to her right hand's action! She switches the plectrum in and out at will, and even when using it, she'll often be picking the top strings and plucking the lower ones with her free fingers - I don't know of anyone else doing that, but then I don't know that many top end bass players. As an aside, she was quite recently voted one of the top five bassists, and #1 female - and there are some VERY good Japanese female bass players.

Very impressive! I did not notice that. There are a bunch of bassists and guitarists that do it and have for years. But it doesn't mean it's any less impressive or technically great!

Welcome to Band-Maid! The best hard rock band I have heard in my 58 years on this planet. While they don't class themselves as a metal band, they don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. They are extremely diverse and have an extensive back catalogue featuring Punk, Pop-Punk, Hard-Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Prog, Blues, Jazz, Groove, Rap etc. From face melting 220 bpm punk-prog mayhem to ballads, instrumentals to acoustics they do it all. They can make you headbang, they can make you pogo, they can make you cry like a baby. They are also five of the nicest people in music, without a shred of ego. They are funny and fun and world class musicians to boot. They are currently into their 12th year with the original line up. Btw, Miku the rhythm guitarist (red rose) formed the band. She had the idea of Band-Maid after working as a maid in Japanese maid cafe's. Her idea is a concept called "The Gap" - that is what you see (cute maids) is NOT what you get (Hard Rock/Punk/Metal). They take the maid café concept literally. They call their concerts "servings" and their fans "Masters and Princesses". Oh, and Miku is an 810 year old small pigeon. Welcome to the pigeon hole Po!

Band-Maid Checklist For Hate... brutal cutdown lyrics: ✔ vocal harmonies: ✔ heavy drums: ✔ guitar vs bass duel: ✔ play part of guitar solo with eyes closed: ✔ do a cute spin at the end of the song: ✔ Some song suggestions for you are Moratorium, No God, Rinne, Onset, From Now On, Without Holding Back, About Us, Play, Why Why Why, Clang, and Matchless Gum. A couple more live videos from this same Yokohama Arena Okyuji are Don't You Tell Me and Endless Story. Don't You Tell Me is a straight up banger with another guitar vs bass duel, and Endless Story is a tear jerker that even choked up the singer, Saiki, and the drummer, Akane, since it was the last song of their 10th year anniversary tour. Also, they just released a collaboration with The Warning called Show Them which is a must listen.

This was cool. I think they are a great band. I love the duelling guitar and bass. I think that dirty bass sounds Rock’s and the runs on the guitar with the quick fingering is excellent. I think some of these female bands are really coming through now which is fantastic to see. I think in the past in the UK many people (although not me) tended to only listen to UK, American or European Rock bands. What I think is great about YT is it enables rock bands from more places around the world to have a platform which is easily accessible to audiences and this is a real step forward. As someone whose taste is very eclectic, I love hearing music from everywhere, and was listening to stuff from all over the world all my life. Many people limited themselves, which I always thought was a real shame.

You have opened the floodgates. They may be the best rock group in the world today (I think they are). They are certainly the most creative band since the Beatles, and they are top-tier musicians. I saw many of the classic rock bands - Purple, Zeppelin, Queen, Santana, many more, all in their heyday. I’ve seen Band-maid three times and their performances stand up to any of those legendary bands. You are going to get a lot of suggestions. First, a little background on the band: Saiki Atsumi - Lead vocals Born Feb 8, 1994 MISA - Bass Born Oct 15, 1992 Kanami Tono - Lead guitar, Main composer and arranger Born Sept 28, 1991 Miku Kobato - Rhythm guitar, backing vocal Born Oct 21, 1991 Akane Hirose - Drums Born Dec 14, 1990 Miku was working in a Maid Café after being in an idol group that didn’t break through. She envisoned the idea of a maid-band that plays hard rock and metal. She recruited Kanami, after finding a Kanami guitar cover on line; Kanami then recruited Akane, who recruited MISA. Akane and MISA had been students together at the Tokyo Music Academy. The group decided they needed more vocal “oomph”, and collectively recruited Saiki. Miku didn't know how to play guitar when they started, so Kanami has been teaching her. She's become good so fast that she is really adding to the music mix, and Maidiacs are daring to dream of a dual shred. The band was struggling early on, and in 2014, even as the label was considering dropping them, they posted the music video for “Thrill” which went viral globally. When they realized what was going on, it gave them the momentum to forge ahead, and they have now done multiple tours of Europe and the U.S. and are building a global fanbase who call themselves the Maidiacs. They have released seven full albums, as well as several EPs, singles and music videos. They have put out around 170 songs, covering a wide variety of styles and sounds, without any duds. They combine a punk vibe with instrumental virtuosity (two things that are often seen as being incompatible), and have done some amazing progressive-rock songs and ballads with a metal edge to them. They toured the U.S. in 2022 and sold out 14 cities in less than 48 hours. They followed it up with a 2023 tour which had to be expanded from their original plans. Their fan base skews heavily to actual practicing musicians. Some of those followed the band to multiple dates and documented everything on youtube-some of the footage is hilarious. I’ve seen them in 2019, 2022 and 2023. Their shows are truly life-reaffirming. So far no announcements of another European tour but it seems likely in 2025. Band-Maid are that rare band that sound perfect live, even better than in the studio. Everything they have posted from their 10thAnniversary concert in Yokohama is absolute fire-I have bought the DVD and recommend you do too. 33 songs, 3 hours of insanity. The best clip on YT from that concert is “Hate?” kzbin.info/www/bejne/r5eyg6KHftZ1aac (You just watched this) Here are more links, to older performances: Freedom (Feb 14 2020) kzbin.info/www/bejne/fHnTpningqaWesk Domination (Feb 14 2020) kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5PcgnaAo5ulj8k Choose Me (Feb 14 2020) kzbin.info/www/bejne/fpTUmqeYjcycnbc Onset (Instrumental-insane!) kzbin.info/www/bejne/o4fVf2CglLqWZrc And an official MV, one of their most popular: Daydreaming (it’s a slower ballad, gorgeous and truly heart-wrenching): kzbin.info/www/bejne/iHTEloihp66nr7s If you want more background, I suggest you react to this classic interview. As you work through Band Maid's almost 12 year discography, you will notice that they are not just 1980s hard rock. They inject various genres into their compositions, and they are perfectionists. There live music is right on with the studio MV version, except they inject more solos and call and responses while on stage. Want to hear something acoustic, maybe check out the backup vocalist doing Sayonakidori during a pandemic Christmas show. Want to hear a killer instrumental? Try either the MV or live version of Onset. Want to see just how fast these gals can play the guitar? Try Giovanni or Black Hole. Thrill MV is what saved their contract. Domination is a good live introduction. Freedom gets to Akane doing a more substantial drum solo.

Band-Maid have well over 100 songs to choose from, and every single one is worth listening to, but they are definitely best experienced live. On the studio recordings, Kanami (Lead Guitar & composer-in-chief) plays all the Guitar parts, and then Miku (Rhythm Guitar) has to learn to play the rhythm parts for the live shows (as well as providing backing vocals and harmonies, and also lead vocals on some songs). Best rock band out there, bar none (IMHO).

Where to start with Band-Maid? Don't think about that for too long. You'll get lost, literally. Just dive in, pick a song at random, and see where it goes. There's no downside to Band-Maid: it's all good. "HATE?" was a song that they worked on all through the 2023 tour. When it originally released on the 'Unleash' EP, it wasn't getting the traction they had hoped for and so they kept tweaking it: 1st they led into it with "Dice" and then they added the duel, performed it at Lollapalooza 2023, and that's when it generated the vibe they were hoping for. Do lookup the KZbin post of "Hate?" from that performance: performed in the early afternoon sun, it was hot on stage in more ways than one. Kanami was on fire!

Your point about the bass player driving the character of the chord being played came up in an interview Rick Beato did with Sting, in which Sting said (paraphrasing) “it’s not a C unless I play a C”. Strictly speaking, if Sting plays a G when the guitarist is playing a C major, then it’s officially a C/G. Of course, this is strictly hypothetical because Sting has never used a C major chord in any of his songs….😂
@mcflyjpАй бұрын
That's just C Major 2nd inversion, technically. But yes C/G is just that. But technically all the notes make the chord so any of them changing changes the chord not just the lowest note haha

I was intrigued, so I checked out some RX Bandits videos... not that bad, great drummer, but the singer reminds me too much of Sting... and not that Sting is a bad singer, but I've never really liked him that much. But I honestly don't see much similarity in the musical composition or sound with Band-Maid, who although they mix many genres are not so openly experimental.😉👍

Looking through your list of videos it seems you really need to broaden your musical horizons and for that there is nothing better than a light dip in the vast Japanese musical ocean... the girls of Band-Maid are amazing, but their music is rather relaxed and fun, the Lovebites girls are also great, but a bit too rooted in the "euro-power-metal" of twenty years ago... the following bands (including full female lineups) are not necessarily better, but musically different or more daring. KOIAI, "A New Picture": kzbin.info/www/bejne/qImZhINrl7aNfposi=n3ZJKhIvnOyQMVRW UNLUCKY MORPHEUS, "Condemnation Is Universal Among Humans": kzbin.info/www/bejne/joGpfZ2CmK2Sg9Esi=kTFzDRRXOyqrzzkE SOKONINARU, "VortEx": kzbin.info/www/bejne/nqakhnSEgcx4iq8si=Gp7Tpj1FZ6CZymDU NEMOPHILA, "Seize the Fate": kzbin.info/www/bejne/r6queH5niMpnmNEsi=fmQPZ_KVKxsGcjnT GALNERYUS, "Across The Rainbow": kzbin.info/www/bejne/bWPVqmSur62MiJIsi=2yWT5D9puz8Hlsp4 It was difficult to choose these five bands... I was left with the feeling of adding another five or simply changing the whole set.😃
