Classic gold!!! I wore the chit out of this tape when it was new. This song was so popular with teens at that time - the MTV generation and skaters especially. I love hearing these old gems. Great reaction H&J. :-) I think that interesting bass sound was a bass-beat played in reverse. That entire album was fire: Girls, Brass Monkey, Fight For Your Right, and my personal fav: No Sleep Till Brooklyn. They were one of the first bands to really succeed in the market of blending hiphop sound and rock sound together.

LL cool jay was brought to def JAM by them and they took a unknown group with them on their first tour Aka Public enemy. It’s funny, watching a lot of reactions to this song and folks not knowing what a whiffle ball bat is and not realizing it’s a dirty lyric rather than violent, especially when it’s people around my own age. Understand it in the really younger folks, but the ones a bit older boggle me even more than my age hahaha, you know? Also, another odd thing I’ve noticed MASSIVELY where I can count it on less than one hand how many have caught that this is a story told in a “Wild West” era sort of setting. Swear to God, I’ve heard more than one person asking if this is how they really met and were absolutely serious in wondering.
