I think the lyrics for 'Sabotage' came from Ad-Rock's (Adam Horowitz) frustration in the studio w/ the producer, trying to control the recording sessions... 😂Beastie Boys said they shot the video in L.A. using wigs, prop clothes and a beat up car w/ a flashing light... they had no permits to film and were running around shooting the scenes, and were lucky the REAL police never showed up.

From Wikipedia: "The song's music video, directed by Spike Jonze and played extensively on MTV, is a homage to, and parody of, 1970s crime drama shows such as 'Hawaii Five-O,' 'The Streets of San Francisco,' 'S.W.A.T.,' 'Baretta,' and 'Starsky and Hutch.' The video is presented as the opening credits of a fictional 1970s-style police show called 'Sabotage,' with the band members appearing as the show's protagonists. Each band member is introduced as a fictional actor, and the names of the characters are also given."

They play the instruments on this song. MCA on bass, MIKE D on drums and AD ROCK on guitar and vocals. The video is a parody of 1970's crime/drama tv shows. Some other songs to check out are: HEY LADIES (Music video). SHAKE YOUR RUMP (Music video). HIGH PLAINS DRIFTER. PROFESSOR BOOTY.

The Beasties brought rockers and rappers together. Most everyone loved the Beastie Boys. They are hugely influential, both in rap/hip hop, and in the later rock bands that incorporated those elements. The video is very much a parody of 70s cop shows and movies.

gotta love Beastie Boys' sense of humor! A lot of their music videos have the element of tongue in cheek humor in them and it's great. The Foo Fighters do that with quite a few of their music videos too.... makes the video memorable. 😅

Hey. I know this is late but I enjoy watching you guys. Old white guy here. Let me give you a patch of input. Most reactions of this vid are a bit off. Its release is from the 90's but I cannot help but think of Starskey And Hutch. If you youtube Starskey & Hutch car chase you will see what I believe to be the inspiration for this vid. Big hair and moustaches, cop chases. Huggy bear was the informant/ cohort as I recall in Starskey and Hutch. This was in late 70's. Getting old doesnt suck. I just want it remembered right. Love you guys. PS: No disrespect BJ but tip of the hat compliment. Asia, if I was 35 years younger you would have to fight me down! All respect!!!!

"Sabotage" is one of the best rap songs ever, and it has one of the best videos. In an interview Ad-rock told that the idea for the video came to them while watching an episode of the mythical television series "The streets of San Francisco". And they hired the great Spike Jonze ("Being Joh Malkovich") to direct it.

@@elbruces The Beastie boys have some punk song on their records. But this is not one of them. There is not a single note in any of the syllables of any of the words in the entire song. The prominent voice that probably stands out most to you is Ad Rock then the guy with the gravelly raspy voice is MCA and then you have Mike D who kind of sounds like a less hyped up Ad Rock. Ad Rock's drops have been sampled in so many different hip hop tracks for the years I think mainly due to the unique sound of his voice

If you like the Beastie Boys you should check out the rap group called New Kingdom. They put out too great albums in the 90's. "Heavy Load" and "Paradise Don't Come Cheap". They didn't sound exactly like the Beastie Boys but they did have some similarities at times. They could seamlessly merge the sounds of rap & rock without sounding exactly like either one. They were something else on another level. If I had to choose only one of their albums it would be their second "Paradise Don't Come Cheap". It was their masterpiece.
