Kid Rock already dropped his rap album before sabbatage came out. "Yodeling in the valley" Kid Rock has KID hair from house party.....it's pretty terrible. The album dropped in December 1990 and Vanilla ice "to extreme" dropped 3 months earlier in September. So basically "Yodeling in the Valley" was dead on impact. The Beastie Boys are one of the first hip hop groups to break out big. They did it right by coming out on Def Jam, with nothing but respect for hip hop, specifically new york hip hop. They were opening for Run DMC......if that doesn't get u over in hip hop, nothing will.

@@twillymantheoneandonly5587 GFTO here with your bullshit. Kid Rocks first album was in 1990. 4 years after the Beastie Boys first ALBUM...8 YEARS after their first single....12 YEARS after their formation. Kid Rock was 7 years old when they started rapping.

When I saw them perform in Inglewood during their Hello Nasty tour, they closed out their set with this song. They were on a round, rotating stage with a giant mosh pit going all around the stage. I wasn't on the floor for that show, but I was in the section just above the floor. It was awesome. There is footage of the performance from that tour online in black and white, but I think the one on KZbin is from their set in Ireland or something. But the performance is exactly how I remembered it with the round stage and everything lol. Also, that main riff you're hearing is actually played by MCA on a bass guitar, which gives it that heavy sound. That's them in the video too. I believe Spike Jonze might've directed this video. I know he directed most, if not all, of their videos.

So the Beastie Boys imprint and impressions and influences were felt all across Hip Hop, the way DJ's sampled and mixed, as well as influenced bands like kid rock, rage against The machine, prodigy, Eminem, 311, Linkin Park, Beck, etc.... True pioneers Legends innovators and icons. And obviously they're B Movie videos, we're huge success in the heydays of MTV... As well as their fashion... Promoting Fila and volkswagen, not Nike and mercedes, they just had a unique way about how they did everything... Maybe you can react to some of their absolute classics on the Paul's Boutique album... Car thief, hey ladies, shake your rump, Shadrach... also be sure to check out root down, past the mic, skills to pay the bills, finger licking good, sure shot, too many rappers featuring Nas... it's such a wonderful rabbit hole, hopefully you continue down it .... RIP MCA

The Beastie Boys started as a new york hardcore band in the early 80s. Because they were exposed to so much music culture in New York, they put a lot of different things in their performances. Hip hop and rap wasn't a break through music genre at the time. DJs, break dance, graffiti art and rappers were heard and seen on the streets live or mix tapes only. The Beastie Boys began rapping in between songs during hardcore shows. Hardcore started fading the sametime hip hop started to break into the mainstream. Def Jams was created and the Beastie Boys found their sound. They opened for Run DMC, hung out with Rick Rubin and dropped an album, becoming one of the pioneers of hip hop. The Beasties respected the roots, giving them real credibility and respect from the hip hop community.
