Beastie Boys are one of the first groups to mix genres. The ability to take Punk Rock Culture and Hip Hop Culture and marry them together. At the time they came up Rap/ Hip Hop was being played at the same clubs as the Punk Bands at places. They were one of the first groups on Def Records. They helped some of the greatest rappers to be able to break through like LL Cool J. They would tour with both Rap/ Hip Hop tours and Punk Rock Tours. Some of the most commercially successful rap groups of all time. Never take themselves to seriously. They came up an era where it was about hip hop and rap was more about having fun and getting the party hyped.

A little history : The one on the right Adam Yauch (with the raspy voice) was a co-founding member passed away from cancer. ( RIP )These guys were discovered by Rick Rubin and they signed with DefJam Records with Russel Simmons they toured with RUN DMC way back in the day they were the opening act for them their biggest influence is RUN DMC. Beastie Boys have enough material for you to deep dive into there’s an endless rabbit hole of their music. These guys moved an entire generation of people before Eminem, Machine Gun Kelly, or NF came into the scene they were the first white guys that got respect from the Hip Hop community. They were the ones that paved the way for white rappers. And the DJ Mix Master Mike was one thee best to pioneer the art of turntablism. It’s one record on his table and this was performed live during the MTV Music Awards.

(Most people don't realize that while Mix Master Mike has a double deck setup, he's working with only one record.) I grew up on the B Boys, and I LOVE watching new people jump in the rabbit hole and loving the things I love in their own unique way. Loving your reactions, Stax. I noticed your insta-stank face and cheered immediately. 3:09 "If you have anything other than stank-face from watchin' this..." Me (proudly pointing at the screen): "My brother knows. My brother KNOWS!" (I am a 45yo white man in Maine, so keep that in mind for context. 😬) Keep it up, my friend. Totally digging your positivity and energy. Shoutout to MCA (Adam Yauch: Aug 5th, 1964 - May 4th, 2012; 47yo). Peace.

It’s really cool to see the younger generation reacting from songs from my youth. The Beastie Boys with MM, Mike with some Apex hip-hop music keep in mind all the music you heard behind the MC in this song came from one record on one turntable and one mixer manipulated by dj in one take.
