there is 3 "trolls" in the song the lyrics is one the music too ( it's pachelbel canon in blues rock a song that had been used many time for hits) and lastly this song that troll the " easy way to be in the US charts by having good hooks" make it hight in the US charts!

I love that the chord progression fits right in with the theme of the lyrics, being a variation on one of the hookiest hooks in classical music, going nearly 350 years strong now: Pachelbel’s _Canon._ A defining characteristic of a musical canon is the use of imitations of the main melody within the composition. Well, here we are, after all this time, with modern musicians still imitating that melody. Could Pachelbel have even imagined it would turn out like this? 😉

John popper is everything. One of the best songs of the 90s and truly one of the best songs of all time in my opinion. This song is brilliant on so many levels.

This song is funny in the way it pokes fun at the formulaic way pop music is generated. And it's so true. (also the Peter Pan / Hook reference was pretty clever) FYI - Rin Tin Tin was a tv show about a dog by the same name. And Anne Boleyn was queen of England.

I honestly don’t know how long it took me to get it. A while.

Both the dog and the royal had very small waists, historically, which is what the lyric references

Very smart lyrics, done with storytelling tongue and cheek, especially the second half🎉😂❤

you have excellent taste in music. Thought I was the only gangsta rap/Blues Traveler head out there. They used to make fun of me when I had the lone Blues Traveler CD mixed in with all hardcore rap

The story is, his brother told him he had too many lyrics in his songs. So he wrote a pop ditty with joking lyrics (and a formulaic chord progression). He said he would sing nonsense the first two verses, then let it rip the way he wanted in the hook. The rap is part nonsense, part critique. And proving the song was true, it became a hit. Also, PC = Politically Correct.

This is one of my favorites. When I recommend it to reactors I usually suggest that they have the lyrics handy if they don't watch a lyrical video for the reason you mentioned. John Popper is just incredible. In this song in particular, his voice lulls us in the beginning. The lyrics, though. As you said, very clever. But also, incredible musicianship from the whole band.

I would consider this their biggest hit. Still rocks

You listened to this a couple month ago... either way, I like the smile this song brings to you 🙂

I saw that last reaction and thought you should have seen this first.😉😉 Live they're brilliant, but John plays his harmonica and sings so fast, it's hard to keep up and I believe that was the Howard Stern Show live in the radio studio, for me it's fantastic, for you cool, but... Hearing this helps bring clarity!!!👌👌👍👍✌✌ I have seen hundreds of concerts and John Popper has soo much energy he exudes throughout the whole concert is insane, very rare, The bands Rush and Yes would be rivals of his energy!!! 👍👍 Enjoy, their catalog has mass amounts of great songs and some you didn't love at first may grow on you!!😉😉 That happens with most of the great bands!!!👌👌👍👍✌✌😁😁
