Celine Dion was widely viewed as being one of the great voices of the 20th century. The only others routinely put in the same category as her were Barbara Streisand and Judy Garland. Celine Dion was so highly regarded that she had her own show on the Las Vegas Strip. She performed to sold out shows for years and years and years.

A Las Vegas residency is literally the opposite of prestigious and anyone who ever had a hit can have a successful one lol.
@shopwornbear1171
@shopwornbear1171 Жыл бұрын
@@PDC1987 I will add to this; she was at the top of her game when she took up her first residency, the very first artist to do so. While it's since degenerated into a has-been festival of medleys and old hits, keep in mind Adele is still churning out hit records (as was Celine when she first took to a Las Vegas stage) and making a ton of people happy that would normally could or would not have had the opportunity to have seen her. I'm no fan of Adele, but use her as an example as a counter-argument to your statement. FYI, Celine made this very bold move back in the early 2000's so she could be available to her kid at the time, and give him a semi-normal life. Adele, same deal. Different artists have different reasons for Vegas, and sadly, PDC1987, you are correct in it not being prestigious at all, and Celine should have stopped at her last very prestigious Las Vegas show before resuming them, again, and again, and again, becoming less prestigious and more ridiculous with each incarnation.

One of the greatest singers of our generation... but her story is also a tragic one. She lost both her husband and her brother within days of each other and the grief she felt almost killed her. She managed to climb out of depression and regain her life back, just to have it taken away again by illness. Last year she was diagnosed with a neurological disease that affects her vocal chords among other things. She is still alive and managing as best as she can, but unfortunately, she can no longer sing or perform.

Michael - this just scratches the surface of what she can really do. My top favourite power ballads are I Surrender and To Love You More. If you want to hear something less ballady - check out Unison from her very FIRST album. It's a super fun dance number with even a little bit of rap in it. Treat Her Like a Lady also shows the grit in her voice - and is edgier. Enjoy the ride! Cheers from Canada :)

@@mikemurphy1700 as brilliant as Tchaikovsky was, NO ONE can touch the emotional effects of Rachmaninoff. I can hear a piece ( I dont really have his whole works memorized) and can tell IMMEDIATELY it is him. THe single most famous piece was boosted in popularity by the movie "Somewhere In Time" in 1981. Rhapsody On A Theme Of Paganini. Just indescribable. and the 18th variation, the love them.. He created THAT by simply inverting the several note sequence that had been the basis of his leitmotif in the other variations.

Celine is the best. She sounds just like this live. She is suffering from a disease right now that is keeping her from singing. We miss her!

There’s just no chance it’s the first time you’ve heard Celine Dion! 😅😂 we’re not buying it. We’re not talking about a local punk band singer here, it’s Celine Dion. That’s just ridiculous, man…
