CCR was big, HUGE, in the 60s and early 70s. Yes...this is a war song. Vietnam era. However, Fogarty always said that this song was actually about the band and how they struggled with their newfound success. Either way, CCR is a legend. I was born in 1969, and my dad was killed in Vietnam in 1972. CCR has been a constant at the Vietnam related USAF reunions I've attended in my dads memory. Their songs spoke to those young men when they were away at war. I love CCR!!! Great reaction!!

Huge list of hits! "I Heard It Through The Grapevine", "Proud Mary", "I Put A Spell On You", "Fortunate Son", "Down On The Corner", "Green River", "The Midnight Special", "Susie Q", "Born On The Bayou", "Travelin' Band", "Run Through The Jungle", "Long As I Can See the Light", "Sweet Hitchhiker", "Bad Moon Rising" etc.

I think "Fortunate Son" and "Run Through the Jungle" were the CCR signature songs of the Vietnam War, in that, those two songs spoke some truth about the politics of the war, and the conditions the soldiers were facing everyday in Vietnam. Of course, all of their other songs you listed were just as loved, the ones I mentioned kind of put that war in a time capsule, if ya know what I mean ⁉️👍🇺🇸🇺🇲🇺🇸🇺🇲🇺🇸🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲

Basically the best Swamp Rock Band of all time. The irony of ironies is they're from California and not the South, but we'll try not to hold that against them. You just can't deny that sound. For the brief years they were together, they were simply amazing. The number of great songs they had in that short period is mind boggling. CCR for me was always one of those bands where you don't put on a song, you put on the album. Like just listening to one song is never enough. one of the original true rock bands. They have a southern rock sound, and sometimes referred to as swamp rock; even though they're from California. The lead singer was born and raised in Berkeley, CA but moved up here near me in the central valley. Their song Green River is about the "Putah Creek" which is like 15 miles from me. It comes off of Lake Berryessa, which is not much further - spent many days in my youth boating and swimming there. If you really want to hear a fire ass banger by CCR - "Ramble Tamble" It's a very underrated under played song that is big big jamming sound. Other amazing songs: Born on the Bayou, and Fortunate Son
