Contrary to popular belief this was NOT hip hop but was the beginning of Detroit "techno", created by Juan Atkins who went on to be one of the father's of House and Techno.

@@michaelprice3992 Yes it was, there was definitely a merge over with "electro" back then. Planet Rock helped bridge that gap.

@@jaywillingham4085 exactly right, it was electro back then, the egyptian lover days! Egyptian lover would get upset being labeled hip hip, he would say "I'm not hip hop, i'm electro" but what ever you call it will always have a place on my heart.

But electro amd Juan Adkins is and always was groundbreaking even when he left cybotron he never quit laying the groundwork for all hip hop beats to be able to grow into what it is, truly a legend.

This was definitely the song you would either play while walking with your boom box or rolling down the avenue in your ride! It was a staple during my youth in Miami, FL. I'm glad you reacted to this one. Going deep digging through the crates.

This may be from Detroit but it reminds me of booty music from Florida because of Jam Pony Express and others sampling the hell out of it in the late 80's.

Something made me come back to this reaction/song this morning. I swear certain songs like this, as soon as our generation hears it, we can’t help but just move involuntarily and accordingly!! Lol. It’s just in the bones and psyche automatically…still! Maaaannnn…9th grade, dances, and block parties all over again!✨✨✨🔥🔥🔥

Yeah, I guess that's the problem with a lot of tracks that are strictly made for DJs. Listening to it on its own, it can certainly come across as boring. But when layered on the top of something else, it provides contrast and texture. Also keep on mind this is one of the earliest tracks from the Detroit house and techno pioneers, so it's very basic. Thanks for giving it a chance though. And please do "Chelsea Rodgers" by Prince at some point. It's soooo good

it's also designed and meant for a dancefloor... as you said a dj, not necessarily for radio or for headphones or KZbin. it should be heard in its correct context. on a dancefloor the elements that evoke groove can be hypnotic and create tension that leads to a cathartic release where the crowd loses their sh1t cheering with hands in the air. it's part of the journey through the song. sitting in a room with no video to watch those groove parts will seem boring, especially for people raised on the music of the last 20 years where songs have little dynamic range, peaks and valleys or even a build up. now, the hook is in the first verse and everything is compressed up to a peak with no valleys, no journey throughout the sound of the music. most of today's music is solely experienced via the video, not on a dancefloor where it should be heard when it's music like cybortron.

Early Detroit Techno track. Actually the first official Detroit Techno track if I'm not mistaken. Don't quote me on that but this is Juan Atkins who is considered the creator of Detroit Techno. STRICTLY for clubs and DJ mixes. Created SPECIFICALLY for DJ'S to be blended into hour long DJ sets. Not necessarily a stand alone track for like traditional radio play or radio airplay consumption. STRICTLY for DJ mix shows on radio or in the clubs. As a standalone track? Not made for that or as a traditional radio song.

Detroit Techno. I remember Deejay "Electrifying Mojo" helped make this stuff popular. Back then we called this Funk but in hindsight it was deemed a new genre "Electro Funk" then eventually just "Electro".

many from your generation & even many 90s kids & after are not accustomed to having music (instrumental music) that is strictly for dancing. you have to hear this type of music while watching a B-Boy video to get a proper feel for this music: kzbin.info/www/bejne/lWaopqWqiKh3h5I I'm from Wilmington Ca (home of Michael "Boogaloo Shrimp" Chambers from the movie "Breaking") a hotbed for B-Boying back in the 80s, one of my memories from back then wasThursday nights in the mid 80s waiting for this O.G. to pull up in his El Camino blasting this type of music (Electro) & gathering outside on the sidewalk in a circle around a large piece of cardboard waiting for a chance to "catch wreck" (B-Boy/Break dance) in the middle of this circle. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jp-bYZqqotWHmas
