This is one of Iron Maiden's most famous songs from early 80s (when I grew up)! It's CLASSIC! Dan's subtle changes made it new for me...love it. And no this song is not evil, it's about a dream.

Thanks for a wonderful reaction, i think it's wonderful, how you've never been listening to metal, and that it's not your favorite genre, but that you're so open, and appreciate it to the degree that you do. It seems that Dan has had that effect on a LOT of people. Dan stated some time back, that he had taken interest in the Mongolian metalband The Hu. And if you really listen to his deepest growls/snarls in this song, it becomes very clear, that he's been digging into the skill of the deep mongolian throatsinging. There's a very different quality to his growls than what we've heard in any previous songs. I won't be surprised at all, if we'll hear some quality throatsinging from Dan at some point. What is seriously intriguing in this song is, how he goes directly from almost operatic to belting, rasping, to deep aggressive growls, back to operatic within one single phrase. That is a vocal mastery of elite proportions - Dan has brought out the entire palette of colors for this one. And how he masters that long sliding fryscream, and then jumps straight into a completely different technique. Ok, that could also have been done in the editing, but i have no doubts he could pull that off live. Also visually he has stepped up his game, playing with new colors, new camera angles, from full bodyshots to extreme closeups, playing a lot with light/shadow and fast cuts, which ads to the intensity of the song. It's highly skillfully done. And Victor, the guitarist delivers some incredibly amazing riffs, both on the bass and the guitars. He is such an amazing, but unfortunately seriously underrated guitarist. He belongs up there with the absolute elite professionals. My only small critique will be the intro by Fearthebeardo, which has (in my ears) become a bit too theatrical (which could very well be intentional), but i feel it should have been more refined and subtle, and Dan could easily have done that deep voice himself, with a lot more finesse and interesting undercurrents - but that's just me and my ears.

I was the same way with music - hated metal, but I outlasted you...I was 74 when I was introduced to Dan Vasc. Dan has taught me what metal is all about and I have a new appreciation for it. I liken it to when I first saw an HD TV - my husband and I bought one, brought it home and turned it on. My eyes were not used to it and I could not watch it for long at a time, but my eyes got used to it and since thnm things have been brighter and clearer.

One of the Iron Maiden band members had a nightmare after seeing The Omen movie. So the song is about the dream and adds the devil speaking at the end, but I don't think it was ever meant to be an "evil" song. I just think they took the dream and made a song out of it. Interesting about 616. I have never heard of that. Your reactions are always informative. Thanks.

The church that I grew up in alway dove deep into the book of Revaluations, the number of the beast is 616, but the marking of the beast is 666, which is the human marking when that time comes.

This is definitely a darker side of Dan. Another commenter noticed that he focused on the music of this song having his performance in almost darkness and in silhouette. He has said that power metal is his number one love of music. I think we at Vascnation are witnessing an evolution of this phenomenal artist. Great screen and great reaction! ❤

Yeah! We actually had a Bible study Sunday evening from Revelation, which I suggested, because I had listened to this cover by Dan. I don't know Mr. Boyd, but my Bible says 666 😊. We also talked about end times and the devil causing trouble. I guess we're trying to make too much out of this song. I really enjoyed it, especially because Dan dropped it on Halloween which is my favorite holiday. I like to be scared and this song definitely did that. I think it was an excellent cover, as good if not better than the original. Dan sang just right, Victor played just right, and Beardos intro was so smooth. Perfection

40 year old song about a nightmare one of Iron Maiden had after watching the Omen (never seen the film) I was 30 when this came out, also thought it was brilliant back then.. The sound of Bruce and the whole of IM production made it a Fantasy sequence.. Here Dan has ramped it up for Halloween, (Irish so not a fan of 'new Halloween' stick to folk lore and Jack 'O' lanterns) This production in sepia is a genius stroke, making Dan's eyes so dark, and the shadows work.. Dan is progressive rock through and through.. Victor is Swedish has his own channel and plays in a band called Eleine I believe, Fear the Beardo has a wicked low voice.. Dan was demonetized for this video at first and had to prove it was an original piece and not Iron Maiden, that's how close to Bruce Dickenson he got. I'm sure the lads of IM would be happy with this cover. Brilliant reaction and so lovely to see you, stay safe my friend

I can relate to most of what you've said. Dan awakened my interest in metal, too. Yeh, I've also heard about the 616, but it still confuses me. I'm glad you brought it up. The way Dan does this song, is like a confirmation that Revelation is for real & is actually unfolding before our very eyes. The original band, Iron Maiden, presented it as a fantasy in the minds of weirdo's. Thank God Dan grabbed the mic to tell the Buttercups to buckle up for the ride of their everlasting lives. Very fun cover by Dan. I agree that Metal is his path of greatness. Made me laugh. I was exactly the same about guitar solos until earlier this year. I am in my 60's. I listened to a progressive intrumental band called Animals as Leaders. Blew my mind. With no vocalist it was as if the guitars were "singing" the song. Totally changed my perspective of solos. Now I see them as a new instrumental "voice" added to the song. 🥰🥰🇨🇦

THE AUTHOR HAD A DREAM AND TRANSFORMED IT INTO MUSIC. The "number of the beast" - 666 - is perhaps the most famous reference in the Book of Revelation. The passage that quotes it says: "Let him who has discernment calculate the number of the beast, for it is a man's number, and his number is 666".

The song is anti-evil. The song' s narrator wants no part of what he's seen in his dream. It's the misinterpretation of this song and most other metal that caused me to skip metal in the 80s. Now, all the people who told me it was evil owe me restitution for all the great music that I missed back then. Great reaction! Please 🙏 keep the Dan reactions coming!

While you are correct that 616 is represented a few early manuscripts, it is the vast minority, and is generally considered to be a copyist error. 666 is what is representative by the manuscript tradition as a whole, and the discrepancy is discussed by the early church fathers as early as the 200s.

Great reaction. I agree, while Dan can sing pretty much anything, he was born for heavy metal. I also agree this song is evil. Because of that, I've limited the number of reaction videos I've viewed for this one as I don't like to invite that kind of energy into my home and my space. That said, when I saw you had done a reaction to this one, I had to watch! Dan usually puts out something new for Christmas, so I'm looking forward to that!
