All good choices and three of the best voices in rock. The intensity of the guitar solo in Wasted Sunsets makes it my favourite of the three. It's unmistakably Richie Blackmore. Blackmore apparently disliked Holy Man and just did a single take of the solo using a screwdriver he found in the studio as a slide. Soldier of Fortune he has continued to perform with Blackmore's Night and Rainbow.

Nice surprise again bud! I liked your choice of ballads…..I liked all three songs. You’ll need to listen to “Hold On” from Stormbringer, it features both David and Glenn on vocals, and Jon has a little funky piano going on! Lol

Yea, wanted some ballads this time. Lazy MIJ 100% on their next go around, then some 90s DP on the following go around. What do you think of their later era material? Added Hold On to the list!

Later DP is still amazing! The 1996 album Perpendicular, was the first to feature Steve Morse on guitar. He is to date DPs longest tenured guitarist. There are two other albums not featured on Spotify that are very worthy of a listen…..Abandon from 1998 (last album with Jon Lord) and Bananas from 2003, which of course was the first to feature Don Airey on keyboards. Don, fortunately plays much in the style of Jon (IMO), and after over twenty years in the band has obviously settled in quite nicely. They have a new album very close to release (there’s a preview song on Spotify), which will be the first with new guitarist Simon McBride. Simon, some say, plays in much the same style as Ritchie.

DEEP PURPLE is on the program? No question of missing this! And as anticipated, a real pleasure! Coverdale's voice (obvious similarity to that of Robert Plant) on "Soldier Of Fortune" and Blackmore's guitar on "Wasted Sunsets": a delight for the ear. Thanks, Brandon.

@@ponytrekker8996 However, I had carefully used the word "similar" because it has more of a sense of "close", "resembling" than of "same". Furthermore, I did not suggest that this "similarity" was confirmed throughout the song. Perhaps I should have chosen a less ambiguous adjective. Sorry. Sincerely.

Soldier of Fortune is Coverdale's most beautiful ballad, while Wasted Sunsets is Ian Gillans best ballad - in my opinion of course. You want more ballads of David Coverdale? Try the title track of his first solo album Northwinds. One of my favourites since I bought the album in the 70's. Other great ballads of the 70's are Catch the Rainbow & Rainbow Eyes of Rainbow (singer: Ronnie Dio) and Rain & Why Did You Go of Uriah Heep (singer: David Byron).

Great way to see how good Ritchie was at getting the right voice - along with Rainbow's as well! Glenn Hughes is always the standout one for me and I'd love to hear you do a collection of his own stuff - Space High & Written All Over Your Face are awesome examples - and of course BCC, along with Bonamassa and Bonham now on their 5th album! But Ritchie's always needed good singers around him - to match the way he gets that Strat to sing! Keep 'em coming! ✌

What a combo! 1000 times better than any from McD*n*ld's :) From 1984 - Perfect Strangers, there are 2 more very good picks for later, "Knocking At Your Back Door", a fantastic album opener. and "A Gypsy's Kiss" (is a "Speed King" song). Soldier and Wasted, they belong to that kind of songs that cross that special border wich divides the easy listening songs that disappear after a short time without leaving you anything, and the superior and timeless music.

@@retroreactions.... Yes I was!!! With Thin Lizzy featuring keyboardist Darren Wharton, guitarists John Sykes and Scott Gorham who all played on the 'farewell tour' when I saw them in 1983 at the same venue. Anything from Made in Japan is going to be a treat. You must listen to the original of "Strange kind of Woman" sometime so you can listen to the Made in Japan version. It is the best live album of the 70s followed by Thin Lizzy's, "Live and Dangerous"!

Hi Brandon. I wasn't particularly following DP but liked John Lord work through the years, but I usually enjoying ballads so I discovered these great songs here, I remembered also "When a blind man cries" which were beautiful. Anyway I liked particularly the guitar solos, very tasty as they are known for. By the way, I would suggest a ballad with Glenn Hughes and John Lord written together, called "This time around" also from 1974 if you like piano with vocals, Glenn is really shining on this, it's the first part of the song that goes to "Owed to G" using the same melody. On the Album "Come taste the band"

Hola!! 💜💜💜💜💜
