This was the first single of his debut album, Its Dark & Hell Is Hot but he already had a buzz in the streets with features on other rappers songs (such as Yayo Felony’s “Watcha Gonna Do” also featuring Method Man, Mase’s “24 Hours To Live” also featuring The Lox & Black Rob, The Lox’s “Money Power & Respect” also featuring Lil Kim, “Grand Finale” also featuring Method Man & Nas from the Belly soundtrack, and LL Cool J’s “4,3,2,1” also Method Man, Redman, and Canibus). This video was actually shot while he performed live at The Tunnel. The white dude you see there at The Tunnel sticking out like a sore thumb is Lyor Cohen (then President of Def Jam Recordings). He signed X that same night after watching him perform.

First time I heard X was on a Mic Geronimo song back in '95... "Time to Build," with Jay Z and Ja Rule, as well. Ja Rule actually had the best verse on that song. X's underground singles in '96 were hot, too.

This whole album you can listen to literally every single song and not skip one it is that good. Some artists albums not always. He dissed K Solo on this song. Tyson used to walk out to the ring to his intro song on this album. Every time I hear DMX I want to run 10 miles or workout really hard in the gym. His energy and voice gets me so amped. He doesn't get his due props and he actually has bars too. At the tunnel they will jack your shit you had to watch your back there lot's of goons and grimey mofos, no joke. He sampled a song from EPMD for this song. Thanks X for leaving us with so many gems your legacy and spirit lives on RIP King, one of kind 🙏🕊

When X first came on the scene i always felt like he was filling the void left from Pac passing away, not that there rapping style was similar but just from his whole street vibe and his look, i think he owed a lot of his initial success to that factor, obviously over time he built his own legacy but in the very beginning it was different

That just goes to show you what a warrior and how fearless X was. He had his music video in the tunnel and telling niggas to "Get At Me Dog."
