Don't forget Bernie Taupin wrote the lyrics. Bernie is as responsible for Elton's early success as Elton was.

The Crocodile Rock is referred to here as a dance. This song I would consider to be a novelty song in a more 50's rock style. It's a real crowd pleaser at his concerts.

Eccentric, absolutely! He was also knighted by Queen Elizabeth for his contribution to music, so his official title is Sir Elton John. Another musician who was knighted is Tom Jones. ❤️

as was Paul McCartney (Sir Paul McCartney) and Ringo Starr (Sir Richard Starkey....which is his real title using his real name, in case you didn't know) both of the Beatles. So was Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones. 😊

“Goodbye Yellow Brick Road “ should be the next Elton John hit. Still the first song I think of when his name comes up

Elton got his piano style from Leon Russell who in turn got his style from playing in a Pentecostal church in his youth. As for genres, in those days you might be hard pressed to find two groups who sounded alike. It was more about originality and the more you try to fit in with anything particular, the less original you became. Everyone at the time was looking for something new.

His early stuff (69-74) was way better than anything after. The sound was definitely late 50s. Elton/Bernie writing was very rare, like the Gershwins rare. Consider putting music that good to another man's words for so many years.

It was an awesome atmosphere when I saw Elton in concert in January this year. This song rocked and everyone in the stadium was singing at the top of their lungs. Talk about an experience!!

Elton John is one of the greatest musicians of all time. Bernie Taupin writes the lyrics and Elton puts those words to music. Talk about a dynamic duo. After 50 years I am still his number 1 fan.

What do Elton and Pat Boone have in common? Pat did a song called Speedy Gonzales in 1962. It was his last #1 song. There was a falsetto chorus sung by Robin Ward : La, la, la, la, la, la. Elton was sued by Buddy Kaye who composed Speedy Gonzales. A settlement was reached.

I think his greatest rendition of this song was during his 2000s album 'One Night Only' his older voice suits the song a lot more.

Contrary to what this REACTOR says, this is a very weak sounding LIVE concert. It is lacking power and energy. At least it was recorded before Elton had his throat operation in the 80's which destroyed his vocal range. On this recording Elton could still sing the high notes, which after the operation he couldn't and still can't today. Today Elton can only sing 3 notes.
