This song reminds me of my childhood. I was born in 68 and my parents used to take me to the local bars with them and I'd sit at the bar with a bowl of pretzels, a shot glass of maraschino cherries, and a Shirley temple along with a fast stack of quarters to play pinball with everyone adding to them when the stack would run low. If you want to hear Mickey Thomas wail even more, check out the smash-hit Jane from when he was lead singer of Jefferson Starship in the late 1970s. It is mind-blowing what a good singer he is and that was the vehicle for him to prove it. Plus it's a fantastic song with that iconic banging piano and heavy guitar riff. This came out when I was in junior high but by the time I was in senior high, two other songs that I thought of as more soft then the hard rock I was mostly into, also became huge pop hits, Magnet and Steel by Walter Egan, and, Cruel To Be Kind by Nick Lowe. And this song by the Elvin Bishop Group was still receiving lots of airplay, and so for some reason, even though they were more pop than what I normally liked, they were just so good that I really liked them, and also, girls were really into these songs, so I went out and bought those three singles, so I would have something to take to parties and throw on the turntable, laugh. It turned out to be a good move!

Elvin Bishop was the lead guitarist. Lead vocalist was Mickey Thomas who was one of a number lead vocalists for Jefferson Starship. You really must react to "Jane" by Jefferson Starship for a demonstration of how great a singer Mickey Thomas is.

It’s soulful and bluezie!! It’s got SWAG! 😂 the lyrics are crisp and groovy! You can’t help but snap your fingers and shakin’ your head ‘no’ …he was a player who got served!! Waiting on her text message now, staring at his cell phone waiting on her phone call.. tables got turned.. Elvin wrote the song, but Mickey his back up singer is singing this song.. he’s the lead singer to the 70s rock group Jefferson Starship.. That solo guitar player is Elvin…

The influences of blues, Soul and R&B are honored so well by Elvin and Mickey. They paid tribute to those originators!
