Don't forget he made 31 movies and sang every style of music and is in 5 music halls of fame. He sang everything from gospel to opera. He wasn't a one trick pony. Elvis fan since I first heard him sing "Love Me Tender" over a PA system in a small town store. I was 4 years old and asked my mom, "mommy who's that man singing?" She said, "Elvis Presley, baby" and I have been a die hard fan ever since for the past 40 years. When we would go on family vacations in my childhood I would pack my Elvis cassette tapes, my Elvis movies on VHS (Change of Habit, Aloha From Hawaii Concert, Elvis '56) and my fan magazines. I fell in love with the music first, then when i learned what an amazing, genuine, generous, kind human being he was who truly loved and respected everyone no matter who they were, or where they came from, it made me love him as a person too. He was a special man.

I grew up with my parents listening to Elvis so I have been a fan all my life. This song was aired during his 68 Comeback Special in December of 1968. That same year Martin Luther King Jr and Robert F Kennedy were both assassinated. Elvis strongly believed in racial equality and this song was meant to honor both of these men. If you want to learn more about his feelings on this subject then 2 good video's to watch would be Elvis and the black community - that echo will never die.. there is a part 1 and part 2 both give great insight into his beliefs and thoughts on the subject. He was an amazing person and performer. His talent was out of this world. If you watch a lot of his live video's you will see he also had a wonderful sense of humor and his strong religious beliefs are evident in his gospel music. I love when younger generations learn about him and his talents, I strongly believe as long as you are not forgotten then you will always be with us here and that is what sharing his music these days does. It keep Elvis alive and with us always.. RIP Elvis

I had never believed it when my professor in college, both a musicologist and professional symphony musician, himself, told me that he viewed Elvis Presley to be the greatest overall singer of all time. "Why?," "What the hell?," so many of us said? With him first going on to ask what's Frank Sinatra's greatest and/or signature song? "My Way," someone eventually said and then the professor proceeded to show us various polls from over the years which listed Sinatra as the greatest singer ever. Ray Charles and Aretha Franklin were also on top of some, and Elvis, too, on a few. But the point of the exercise was to simply show us Sinatra was considered by many, though it's subjective, to be the greatest. The class then listened to Sinatra's "My Way," and then Elvis' version, back to back. With the room being roughly split as to whose version was better, "which proved what I thought?" But then the professor showed us Elvis rocking out to 'Trying to Get to You' from the Elvis 1968 Comeback Special. With the point ultimately being that regardless of whose version of 'My Way" you preferred, Elvis was right there, totally at home playing in Sinatra's backyard for lack of better parlance. But as to Sinatra playing in Elvis' backyard, he said, it couldn't be done, as he said "[i]magine Sinatra, (who he totally loved) trying to do that rock number?" Then going on to say that he had found no singer who had ever sang more genres, more majestically, than Elvis, & he challenged us to find out for ourselves by looking at his full catalogue of Rock, Pop, Soul, Country, Ballads, Gospel and more. And, when done, I admit I became a convert who was so, so doubtful, at first, I can't even begin to tell you. But from rocking out to 'Trying to Get to You' from that Elvis 1968 Comeback Special, to singing about the dream of humanity coming together with "If I Can Dream," from the same show, I believe you will see what I mean. Elvis even had a voice that could be operatic if you go and listen to 'Hurt' and his version of "You'll Never Walk Alone" will tell you why he has also sold more gospel records than anyone, as well as just tons more, overall. But, with pop and 'Such A Night' to a ballad such as 'They Remind Me Too Much of You,' he did it all, and so, so damn well. While for soul, check out 'Long Black Limousine' or 'You're Wearin' That Loved on Look' which is a bit of another number. Because as Elvis' one album cover says, there's 'Something for Everybody.' Also, and if ultimately you don't think Elvis is the best, that's totally cool as there really is something for everyone!;-) Great channel and I wish you the best!!! ~ Christopher Tyler P.S. Those recommendations are only, quite literally, the beginning!

Everything in this performance has a purpose. The song itself was written by Earl Brown, inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King’s speech I Have a Dream. The song was written with Elvis in mind & it’s a tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Mr. Brown was aware of Elvis love for Dr. King. He also knew that Elvis was devastated by the news of Dr. King’s assassination (less than 9 miles from Graceland, Elvis‘s home). The white suit was also worn to accompany the song’s dream for better days. At the time, the conflict in Vietnam was heart wrenching. In remembrance, of the lives lost during the Vietnam war. The burgundy colored scarf Elvis wore around his neck was for them.

I hope you will listen to it again without pausing it. In my opinion, this is one of his best songs he wrote. He wrote this song the night before he performed it for his Christmas Special. He became popular in the 50's and continued through the 70's. He was the "King of Rock n Roll" and he sold more records than the Beatles, Michael Jackson, the rest of the well-known groups. Unfortunately, he passed away in August of 1977, but his music will live forever.

Well I saw this reaction and I think hound dog from The Ed Sullivan Show and so I subscribed. I can see you're just getting started. Elvis is a fascinating presence in our history and we're lucky enough to have material and even video of him from about 1954 through 1977 when he died early. You can imagine how much music changed during that time, that is multiple decades. And he just got better and better and he's actually a really nice human being, born in poverty and never forgot it. I'm a 60 year old white dude from Kansas in the United States and a musician for life. I saw that you have covered American Trilogy and I'm not sure what else and so you know that he turned into a fantastic singer although he was really great from the start. But if you haven't done it, check out his rendition of Bridge Over Troubled Water, live in Vegas 1970, in the white jumpsuit. And in fact there are many memorable performances from that show, like Suspicious Minds and Polk Salad Annie. Also in terms of something new, I've been going down the Lucy Thomas rabbit hole for the last year or two and she's continually releasing new stuff and she's really rising in the world of respected female vocalists even though she's just now 19 about to turn 20. A young singer from northern England. Check out her version of the Leonard Cohen song Hallelujah, which is difficult and has been covered 8 billion times and used in tons of movies and television shows. But she absolutely knocks it out of the park and it's a great entry point for her.

Another Elvis song you need to check out is In the Ghetto! Just a little advice….try not to pause as much. It can lose some of the song’s emotional impact. And go back like 10sec after each pause. But otherwise you’re doin great!

Hello Bimu from Nepal! This was my first time sitting in with you today, thank you for allowing me to do that, I enjoyed the time I spent here with you so I subscribed and left a like for you while I was here. This song was also sung for Robert Kennedy, not just MLK, they were both murdered that year, he wore the red tie for all of the blood spilled in Vietnam. Best of luck with your channel young man! You had a great reaction to this wonderful song!

new sub -- BACKGROUND INFO for the SONG: As per the producer-director of the '68 special -- Steve Binder -- Elvis, Binder & others were together in the studio when they heard noise coming from the TV in the next room; it was the TV news broadcast that Robert Kennedy had just been assassinated. Binder, Elvis, et al sat up until about 4 a.m. talking about the turmoil in the world at that time w-Elvis expressing his thoughts & feelings, also the assassination of Pres. Kennedy & Vietnam. Binder asked songwriter Walter Earl Brown to compose a song based on those discussions. The song is notable for its similarities to Martin Luther King’s wish for a world of peace and harmony. The red tie was for the blood shed in Vietnam. Way too much stopping & lengthy talking. It's disruptive & kills the whole flow & meaning of his performance. Puleeez try to make notes & comment afterwards. Thank you.
