You remind me so much of my son who was a youth in this fabulous rap period. I heard Eminem for hours every day and with each play through I would be picking up on the words and just laughing my head off. Eminem was like a breath of fresh air. Really kick ass, piss take lyrics. But try always to put music in context and time. With all the gorgeous brown (not black!!!!!!) rappers who were posing their way to notoriety, along comes a scrawny little pale (not white!!!) guy who is prepared to stand up to his own (pale skinned males) and cross the fence into the brown skinned realm of rapping. He made more money than most though! Very clever lyrics and the timing is sublime. To say nothing of the videos which are like short films. This is music at its best, just pure fun and entertainment. I´m glad you enjoyed it. As you say, you are ready to react to all musical material, that young man is the only way to be. We are born when we are born but there was always plenty going on before that time, if only you want to take a look. I´ll give you something beautiful to react to. One of the great guitarists of all time, CARLOS SANTANA. This video that I suggest is a live performance of their song BLACK MAGIC WOMAN. It is the 1998 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. Check out what it is to fuse musical styles and instruments to create a very unique sound that was the Carlos Santana band. Enjoy your music.

Man the way this guy changed over the years.. not in a bad way.. he came in sooo crazy wild controversial, making a name for himself, rapping about all this random crazy funny shit, then over time he got more serious and even his tone and vocals got more deeper at times, not saying physically it changed, but he just changed up levels, and then he got more and more into bars and went from songs that made u laugh, shake your head, say what the hell, to songs now that leave u pausing it 50 times to catch all the bars....... !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I remember when I first heard Eminem. I was at work, working the nightshift. Due to being the only one there we were allowed to have a radio on. There was a DJ who at the time was one of the most respected in the UK, he was about the only one who chose his own playlist. His name was John Peel. On this one night I was keying in some data and at the end of one of of his infamous boring stories I heard "Hi, My Name is.." and it immediately got my attention. I wasn't that much in to rap, I was one of the ones who dismissed it as a bunch of angry black men, shouting about women, guns and drugs. I suppose I was right, but I mistook that as a reason to not listen to them instead of a reason to listen to them. But this black man had something different to say. By the end of the track I was hooked. John Peel had introduced me properly to rap and Eminem had completely changed my view of it. I was into House music and it was pretty much all I listened to. After each payday I would go out and spend hundreds of pounds on house music vinyl at a record store in the city. I bought around 1500 12" in 2 years - averaging 2 a day I think. One time I had just spent £400 on vinyl and I was about to exit the store and squeezed past 2 guys in black MA2 jackets who were talking to one of the staff as he was putting on rap vinyl for them to listen to, and guess what I heard as I opened the door. Yep, "Hi, My Name Is...". I froze, though eff it I've just spent all my money on house vinyl but I want that record. I only had enough money for 3 meals over the week as it was, I was going to be living off rice for four days, so I would either have to ask for a refund on some house vinyl and buy that rap track, or borrow some money off my mate, or just leave it. I decided to buy money off my mate, but I used it for food for the other four days of the week instead of buying the rap track. I had told loads of people about this crazy rap track I had heard twice now but it was many months later before I heard the track again. It was in the pop charts. I'd now got the chance to buy it again and I rushed out to get it this time, but imagine how cool I'd have been if I'd have chosen one of the other options I had. Years later John Peel was found out to have been a paedo. By then I was listening to all sorts of rap artists, realising how talented Dr Dre was, and I'd found out Eminem was white too.
@Flickterr2 жыл бұрын
Yo I have a similar story of how I got to listening to rap. Growing up in school, the teachers and my classmates would always put on autotune overload and stupid rap songs about bitches and guns and whatever and all kinds of mumble rap mainstream 🗑️, which made me totally dismiss rap for many years. Then, my brother put on lose yourself and I was so shocked and amazed I was like wtf, I didn't even know there was rap like that out there. So I was instantly hooked and just started listening to Eminem albums and stuff and then some 50 cent, some Royce, some of Dre's stuff. Like I used to just listen to rock and metal as a kid and hate rap, but now rap's all I listen to today. Also when I first started listening to Eminem I also assumed he was black. I was so shocked when I found he was white. I had stupidly assumed all rappers were black for some reason when I was a kid.
