Vocalyst I don't know if you knew but they are a sister band to nightwish because nightwish has members in nightwish that were in wintersun. But that list again was starting first is wintersun sons of winter and stars 1.5 official lyric video. Then is wintersun time live rehearsal video at Sonic pump studios in Helsinki Finland. After that is wintersun land of snow and sorrow live rehearsal video. If you love nightwish you'll love wintersun. Thank you wintersun Alex ❤️

Hindsight is always 20/20. To me, the bigger blessing is that we live (and lived) in a time when it was all recorded over and over again, and remastered so we get to enjoy it all any time we want. I'd just like a professionally remixed "Justice" album, the way it should've been. I know it was remastered in 2018, but remixed and remastered are two very different things. Let's get the album we (but above all else... Jason deserves!) The body gets old, but the mind stays metal.

James Hetfield has said before that they get a lot back from fans saying how this song helped them in dark times and made them feel like they weren't alone. It did the same for me when I first heard it at a young age. "I wrote the song at a friend's house in New Jersey. I was pretty depressed at the time because our gear had just been stolen, we had been thrown out of our manager’s house for breaking shit and drinking his liquor cabinet dry. It's a suicide song and we got a lot of flak for it, as if kids were killing themselves because of the song, but we also got hundreds of letters from kids telling us how they related to the song and that it made them feel better."
@smftv8 ай бұрын
James's moms death is an integral part of this song. She (Cynthia; also once an opera singer) passed away from cancer when he was just 16. His parents were strict Christian Scientists and didn't believe in medication, just faith healing, so had his mom gone to the hospital, she may have survived (and certainly longer than she did). She also helped James pay for the amp that was among the gear that was stolen). Very important pieces to the story of the song "Fade to Black".
@BigGameYimmy27 күн бұрын
This song and Master literally saved my life. I was a meth addict and well liked speed metal but only Metallica reached me in those dark places. Master the most because I realized the song was about me 'chop you breakfast on a mirror' and fade to black when I had suicidal thoughts. When I first heard it, made me realize whoa I'm not alone. I've told my adult daughters that I'm alive because of Metallica and so are you

Take the lyrics and the head banging out, which is hard to do, and your left with a beautifully composed work of art. Years ago I fell in love with a woman who taught me what it is to feel what this song attempts to convey. She was my princess for four years, and I've been her victim ever since the day she ended us out of the blue, without warning or cause, to pursue a married co-worker and then sought to cost me my job, filed false charges against me (fully acquitted months later), and for two years continued filing false police report after false police report. Those who feel I must have done something know where my mind was at the time. I was a convenient victim. She didn't want friends and co-workers to see her for the calculating, cold-hearted robot she was capable of being. So she used me... made it look like I was the bad person so she could play the victim. And I still have the nightmares decades later. This song encapsulates the emotions she gave me to endure for a lifetime.

I feel you brother. The pain haunted me for years and it was a long process to let go. It helps to understand how messed up in the head those people are that can do those sort of things. I have learned to forgive them (yep I've suffered two of them) and even feel sorry for them. I wouldn't go back and change anything, it was definitely a hard and painful way of learning but it helped me to where I am today. My mind still reminds me of it now and then, but I don't feel attached to it anymore. I've learned to just let those thoughts dissipate without clinging to them. I truly hope that you are, or have been able to, find peace. Calm seas don't make a skilled sailor, I am thankful for the storms.

Most fans know of the struggles he has faced with addiction, his upbringing .. and for people, especially teenagers, to see a man like James Hetfield really open up and make himself vulnerable is an extremely moving event. But fully agree to check out the studio version and acknowledge how powerful that is as well .. especially for one of the up and coming heavy metal bands in the early and mid 1980s. (and being in middle school at that time and being the first Metallica fan in my class I knew the truth but had to deal with the opinions / judgements of other students, parents, pastors, etc on Metallica . Although I was lucky to have parents that lived a very moral existence, practiced what they preached, but never judged my musical interests .. that always left a very strong impression on me)

This was Metallica at their creative and live peak. They got a lot more popular after this, but they never reached this level of creativity again.

Oh no! Such a shame 🙁 why live version?? This song is just too special to be ruining your first time experience like this.

Great and detailed reaction! Thank you for it. They were the first one to bring acoustic guitar in metal and it was the first song. You should listen to the versions with acoustic and newer live versions including, you will find out many new different colors in them.

Something fun to do would be to compare an older performance to a recent one. You mentioned their long career and what that can do to a voice, I think it would be very interesting to watch. You could do it in sections like you do now, but flipping back and forth.

I hope you went back and also listened to the album version. The solf understated vocals are more present in that version and it makes the song even more emotional. This was him having fun with it on stage.

I love how you bare your teeth consumed by the gnar of the vocals semingly unaware your doing it at firat too. This shows how succesful he is at making you feel the same emotion. A deep sadeness and repressed rage trying to boil out.

I'm very very glad that you loved this song as much as we do. Metallica is my favorite band and watching your analysis gives me another dimension to cherish them! I hope you could do an analysis to Time and Sons of winter and stars, from Wintersun. It's a mind-blowing experience from vocals to every instrument. Even more impressive when you know that the singer doesn't have 1/3 of his lung. I hope that this comment can reach you ❤

So hyped to see you doing Metallica again!! This concert is their best work IMO, and this is the era where James' singing was at its peak. (Also right before he realized shredding his throat night after night wasn't really sustainable 😂) Would love to know what you think of his singing in The Thing That Should Not Be from this same concert!

The anthem of a generation of metal heads with issues and no help out there! It helped so much to know we weren’t alone and it was ok to not be ok. I don’t know how I would have survived my youth without metal music to release my anger and anxiety! Metallica family for life!

I love her and her comments and reactions. She feels so genuine. Being a vocal coach and listening on this song for the first time. Now I would love to see James Hetfield comment on this video. Hearing his comments on her comments. Very meta but I would love that. 😊

Recommendations: Outlaw Torn S&M 1999! Enter Sandman, Harvester of Sorrow in Moscow 1991 had amazing vocals too (to be fair, any song from Seattle '89 or Moscow '91 had Hetfield's best vocals). Just to add to the point made in 12:11. James started losing some of his voice back in late 1992, due to the extensive touring supporting their fifth album, "Metallica" aka "The Black Album". In 1995 they tuned a half-step down (from E standard to Eb) and that helped him not to push his vocal chords so much. 2000-2014 he went for a cleaner style of singing, very low distortion (if any). Since the release of "Hardwired" (2016) I feel James has got A LOT of those gritty tones back. Check any live video from last year, he sounds GREAT! (and the man is 60 now!) Love your reactions to Metallica!

Watching you watching it for the first time gives me a glimmer of what it was like on my first listen of the song. What's remarkable is that this was composed in the early 80's, and was incredibly sophisticated by comparison with their demos and first album a couple of years earlier. For me the best song they ever did though was Master of Puppets. The combination of metal guitar and classical guitar influence gives it such depth and variety.

I have seen Metallica 16 times since 1988. This tour was by far their best sounding tour of them all. The band sound was so tight and James Hetfield's vocals were at their peak. His singing went downhill a little bit from here on out, and ironically, it was right after this that he started taking vocal lessons. Make sure to check out the song And Justice For All from this show, too. The ending is epic.

You are getting hooked on Metallica! lol Watching you nodding your head to the drumbeat as the song progressed was great! By the next Metallica reaction video, we might see you sporting a bandana and headbanging lol (might I suggest 'Master Of Puppets') As always Bethany, your reaction channel is hands down one of the best on KZbin. I subscribed my first time watching you and haven't looked back. Thank you for provide wonderful content!

This song's a masterpiece (but as a Metallica fan, I may not be so objective ^^) English's not my native language but I'm not so bad when it comes to talk with english people or watch english videos (maybe not so much when writing ^^) And I have to say I love the way you seem to enjoy music and talk about it, letting your feelings show. Glad to have landed there, and wish you good things to come ;)

I've got my tickets to see them, November next year down here in New Zealand. It will be my second time and if it's anything like the first, I can't wait. Side note: Saw Iron Maiden here a few weeks ago and they blew the roof off the place. These "classic" metal bands still touring and putting on incredible shows after all these years is amazing and I urge anybody out there who hasn't seen them, if you get the chance, take it, or you will be kicking yourself for years.

My fave song from Metallica is "until it sleeps". It's not popular in metal circles, but that song is what drew me in. James vocals really spoke to me in that song and made me a total fan.

Great video again! The funny thing is that you can hear James' vocals clearer during Live performances than on the studio recordings (prior to 'Puppets'). PLEASE also listen to "Fade to Black" (aka. the suicide song from the album, Ride the Lightning) on the not re-mastered studio recording, on CD is recommended vs. a compressed version (YT). The ending 'jam session' is intended to be what is going through a person during those final moments of "committing the act". Metallica wasn't promoting self-violence, perfectly 'communicated' the mindset, acceleration, climax, and in the end, the hero dies. Anyone who knows interviews of Metallica, they are very open about their addictions and dark periods from a personal standpoint. They aren't lecturing people about what to believe or think... they share their own struggles in life and music is their outlet. They want others to not follow in their footsteps with the bad, their songs are a warning, a STOP sign. Rambled a bit but all true.
