Mike Patton is ridiculously talented, he did an Italian 50’s pop album too… he can sing opera… very little he hasn’t done.. but it’s definitely his fnm stuff I love him for most 🥰🥰🥰 Especially the angel dust, and king for a day (fool for a lifetime) albums

People will be quick to point out that this song is an outlier in the band's musical history, but in truth there are about twenty songs they performed or released that could be considered outliers to their sound or style (you'll probably never hear anyone trying to pigeonhole this band, because they incorporate so many different influences, even though they're most loved in the metal and rock world). FNM is one of the most incredibly diverse and energetic bands of the late '80s and early '90s, but most of their best work came when Mike Patton joined the band in '88 (officially in '89). We had a lot of incredible artists in the '90s, from Cobain to Buckley, Vedder to Cornell, but I think Patton is one of the most unusual. He can sing everything. He can go from a guttural growl to operatic in a heartbeat and while using a megaphone in-between. Don't be thinking this song is in any way representative of their overall style. Their tongue-in-cheek and irreverent or cynical attitude to the music of the time led to some of the most iconic rock songs of the early '90s. When they reformed to play rock and metal festival dates a few years ago they were filling those arenas, that tells you how much of an influence this band had on the rock music world, and still does today, even though most people probably have no idea who they are.

Sticking to FNM I suggest checking out Separation Anxiety, Evidence, Midlife Crisis or anything except Epic (everyone reacts to this as it was their first big hit with Patton as the new lead singer but honestly, for all I loved it then and now, it’s not a great song in general or especially by FNM levels of quality). If looking into just the lead singer's stuff (Mike Patton) there’s a mega-amount of way too many genres (he’s a workaholic across genres with literal hundreds of projects of his own or on other people's) but I’d suggest Che Notte from his Mondo Cane personal project - either album version or live video recording in Chile 2011, Tomahawk - God Hates a Coward, Peeping Tom - Mojo, the beatboxing cover of Pony with Rahzel, General Patton Vs The X-ecutioners - Get Up Punk, Mr. Bungle - Carousel, with Eyvind Kang - Aquilas (sings beautifully on this and then at end you hear some of his vocal effects done)...... also, he was the monsters in I Am Legend as part of various voice acting he does.

Mike Paton a certifiable, mad genius. If you want more of his versatility, you have to react to the track 'Mojo' by Peeping Tom (another of his projects). The official video is warped but it is a great track. Mike and Peeping Tom also performed it live on the Henry Rollins show (also on youtube).
