Many of us growing up in the 60's and 70's, and even the 80's could turn on the radio and almost every day hear a new band that was great. They seemed to come out of the woodwork. Some were one hit wonders, some were hit making machines. It just seemed that every time you turned around one of your friends was saying you got to listen to this band and would break out a new LP he/she just picked up. What a time to be alive - at least when it came to music. You have so many to hear yet. Have fun. LP - aka album - aka vinyl. In the 60's sometimes it was just a 45 rpm record - I know really showing my age.

Such an underrated band that never had the reputation of Led Zeppelin, Sabbath or the Stones, but Foghat was always one of my top 3 or 4 favorite bands. OK, everyone will tell you to listen to Fool For the City, and you will, and they will tell you to do I Want to Make Love to You and Driving Wheel. But I like some of their more obscure hits like Stone Blue or Midnight Madness. But what I will tell you is that this band has a great sense of humor and you will laugh as you rock out to Boogie Motel, Somebody's Been Sleeping In My Bed, and Live Now, Pay Later. You have found , hands down, one of the hardest rocking banks of the '70's.
@tomwoliver4 жыл бұрын
Agree 100%. I saw them many times and they were always phenomenal! Fool For The City is a great album, Night Shift is great, Stone Blue is great and a favorite, and Boogie Motel is a great listen (Nervous Release is sooo good with Craig MacGregor on the bass!). Rod Price on slide guitar was known as'The Slide King of Rock and Roll' and Dave 'Lonesome Dave' Peverett on Rhythm guitar and vocals. Both top shelf. Roger Earl on Drums and Tony Stevens on Bass were top notch. Three of the four members had left a previous band named Savoy Brown who were an excellent blues rock band in their own right. Foghat was a nonsense name that came from a scrabble-like game that Dave had played as a kid with his brother.

Fun little bit of trivia that you might not be old enough to have picked up on: that "ratchet" sound after each line of the verses is actually an old-school rotary-dial telephone. :-) Someone in the recording studio had a microphone aimed at the phone, and on cue he would dial a number (probably the "9" or "0"), resulting in that characteristic "zzzzzzzzzzip--tiktiktiktiktik...." sound as the spring-loaded mechanism was turned and then automatically rotated back to its home position. :-D

I am definitely aging myself but my Senior year in high school we actually won a concert by Foghat! We won a local radio contest and that was one of the prizes, a live concert. That would have been in 1978. Marian Catholic HS, Chicago Heights Illinois ("Teaching scholars with a soul")

Sometimes I wish I could have that 'first time' hearing experience again with these bands. Seeing you react to songs I know by heart comes close to that 'first time' feeling.

Founding members singer/guitarist “Lonesome Dave Peverett, drummer Roger Earl, & bassist Tone Stevens left the British blues rock group Savoy Brown and with guitarist Rod Price formed Foghat. Their first big hit was “I Just Want to Make Love to You.” Saw them in the early 70’s and they rocked it hard!

Thank you for that info. I was a huge Savoy Brown fan and still am but I had no idea. Never too late to keep learning. Every time I think I know a lot about music info like this pops up.
