Frank Zappa John Denver and Dee Snider testified before Congress when they were debating on if there should be a rating system on published music. Those testimony are available on the tube. Frank showed up in a tailored three piece suit with styled hair . Appearances make an impression. John Denver showed up in what we would call today as business casual and apologised for his appearance before testimony. Dee snide essentially showed up with stage makeup and dress. Dee Snider is the singer for twisted sister. Ripped jeans, hair past the shoulder length , makeup,. And a completely foul mouth. He read a statement that immediately slighted the wife of one of the interviewers. Tipper Gore the wife of Albert Gore junior. It is interesting to see how the senators and congressmen assumed what the testimony would contain. John Denver delivered a very effective statement for why censorship or a rating system is a bad idea. Frank did pretty well on why it was dangerous to allow a wife of a senator to decide what the public is allowed to hear. Interesting to see. You should check it out. Not necessarily a review subject but it effects your income stream regardless.

This song is about the average frat boy and his ultimate destination in life. Zappa was the son of Sicilian immigrants. He was composing avant-garde classical music when he was still a teenager. Otherwise he was playing drums in mixed race rock n' roll and R&B and doowop bands and playing guitar solos inspired by Johnny Guitar Watson and Guitar Slim. He wanted to be a composer in the tradition of Stravinsky and Varese but also loved blues, rock, and soul music so he combined the two worlds and didn't really like lyrics as much as music so he wrote mostly about how stupid he thought most people were, as well as socio-political stuff, and just weird comedy stuff. This is actually one of his pop songs. Try Sinister Footwear II, What's New in Baltimore and The Black Page to hear how complex, intense, and beautiful his rock instrumentals could be. Try Watermelon in Easter Hay, Black Napkins, and Sleep Dirt if you want to hear devestatingly gorgeous melodic guitar music full of emotion. Try Beat The Reaper, N-Lite, and Put a Motor in Yourself if you want to hear classical music from the future. Try Hot Rats if you want to hear the greatest jazz rock album of all time. If you want to hear lyrics some of my favorites would be: San Berdino, Andy, Cosmik Debris, Trouble Everyday, Flower Punk, Who Needs The Peace Corps, Mom and Dad, I'm The Slime, The Meek Shall Inherit Nothing, Heavenly Bank Account, Jesus Thinks Your A Jerk, Dumb All Over, Uncle Remus, Charva... If you want to react to a half hour long audio cartoon of semi-classical virtuosity with a weird story on top try The Adventures of Gregory Peccary...nothing can prepare you for that.

I remember this song very well. German stations played Bobby Brown over and over again. Either they did not understand the lyrics, which I doubt, but at least they pretended not to understand them. In the mid 80`s I had a guy from Oakland (a well known drummer - I won´t give his name though) as guest in my house. He could not believe what he heard on the radio during breakfast and got really upset. He later thought we had pranked him, but we hadn´t. A later found out that Bobby Brown was frequently aired in most of Europe, and it still is. The most bizarre scene I remember from that song was hearing it emitting from a middle class "dancing school" in which middel class teenagers tried hard to make contact with member of the opposite camp, so to speak. All extremly formal and stiff. I peaked through the window and watche dthem dance "foxtrott" to Bobby Brown. I was their age (around 15) but my english was much better, and hey - not much language skill needed to make a save guess what most of the lyrics meant. ;-) Just imagine German teenagers with a stick up their spine dancing cheek to cheek to "Thanks to Freddie, I'm a sexual spastic" :-D That was the time when we looked up to you guys in the US. The time when you had critical srtists like Zappa and Carlin and the like. What has happened since? Hey there, people, I'm Bobby Brown They say I'm the cutest boy in town My car is fast, my teeth are shiny I tell all the girls they can kiss my heine Here I am at a famous school I dressin' sharp and I'm acting cool I've got a cheerleader here Wants to help with my paper Let her do all the work And maybe later I'll rape her Oh God, I am the American dream I do not think I'm too extreme And I'm a handsome son of a bitch I'm gonna get a good job and be real rich (Get a good, get a good, get a good, get a good job) Women's liberation Came creepin' all across the nation I tell you, people, I was not ready When I fucked this dyke by the name of Freddie She made a little speech then Oh, she tried to make me say when She had my balls in a vice but she left the dick I guess it's still hooked on but now it shoots too quick Oh God, I am the American dream But now I smell like Vaseline And I'm a miserable son of a bitch Am I a boy or a lady, I don't know which (I wonder, wonder, wonder, wonder) So I went out and bought me a leisure suit I jingle my change but I'm still kinda cute Got a job doing radio promo And none of the jocks can even tell I'm a homo Eventually me and a friend Sorta drifted along into S&M I can take about an hour on the tower of power As long as I get a little golden shower Oh God, I am the American dream With a spindle up my butt 'til it makes me scream And I'll do anything to get ahead I lay awake nights, sayin', "thank you, Fred" Oh God, Oh God, I'm so fantastic Thanks to Freddie, I'm a sexual spastic And my name is Bobby Brown Watch me now, I'm goin' down And my name is Bobby Brown Watch me now, I'm goin' down And my name is Bobby Brown Watch me now, I'm going down Yeah, I knew you'd be surprised

There is less controversial (particularly nowadays - I think fans just 'got him' in the 70s/80s while mainstream often stayed away) material for you to try. Maybe try Cosmik Debris or Stinkfoot off the Apostrophe album. The torture never stops and Wind up working in a gas station are another 2 of my favourites. One of my favourite lines in a song is his 'I lost control of my body functions on a roller-headed lady's front lawn' (from Wonderful wino). I miss Frank, definitely a genius and a mean old guitarist and composer too. love from the uk, stay safe xx

This song is a satire on the mindset of a particular group of nasty individuals. Frank was a master of satire.

Zappa was a musical genius, from my areas of CA. Loved how he made fun of everything and everyone, was on the news for politics, went to czechoslavakia and got appointed a position, argued against censorship, etc... Thank goodness he left us with his 4 kids and dweezil zappa. Thank you for the content.

Frank was a master of not only burlesque comedy and satire but also a democratic gem regardless of what side of the fence one sits.

It's NOT a joke; don't you realize, that he is mocking a sociopathic Buffoon who is full of himself. My god; young people, don't get dark parody that makes a meaningful and compassionate social point. He is a brilliant moral guy; he would never say this, without it meaning the opposite..get it?! It's called satire. Besides being offensive; how lame would it be, if he actually meant this on a purely comic level.

You should do a reaction to either "Why does it hurt when I pee" or "Catholic Girls" from Frank Zappa. They are both on the album Joe's Garage ACTS 1,2,and 3

Lucille is an excellent song off that album and unlike some songs, it's a serious piece of music, at least a serious as FZ gets.

@@Peter-K His music is not always serious. Quite often all or portions of his songs could easily fit within a Looney Tunes cartoon.
@Peter-K4 жыл бұрын
@@473mec you are confusing music with lyrics. Even the most absurd songs (and that was his point...absurdity) were backed by complex melodies. Music you say could fit into a looney tune cartoon is still musically complex and it took very good musicians to actually play it. The fact that he considered humor as an addition to the musical entertainment only enhanced the appeal many find in his work. He was a serious and talented musician, who also liked to laugh at the absurdity of American life.

Interesting that this generation is discovering Frank. Their reactions are fascinating, some get knee jerk offended while others actually think about what his saying and get that he was first and foremost a social commentator who pointed out inequity. I've yet to see anyone react to "Jewish Princess" though. Now that will be interesting.

For your info: The song Frank wrote about the typical yuppie douchbag type. And he name him Bobby Brown. It is inot from a personal perspective as you are used to from Hip Hop and shit...
