I miss those days when there were artists whose voices were so distinct, you knew who it was when they sang that first note. When they had different artists gunning for that top spot..... Prince vs MJ, Freddie vs Luther... Whitney vs....well....no damn body...LOL. The 80's were an amazing time for R&B...it brought the balladers OUT. Like Jeffrey Osbourne, Lionel Richie, Luther, Peabo Bryson, Freddie Jackson, Howard Hewitt, Glenn Jones...the list goes ON....p.s. Freddie is the BUSINESS. his voice alone....man. Please check out more of his stuff..

Started with New York Soul and Magic outfit Mystic Merlin in the early 80,s , but only did one album with them as lead singer... which was mystic merlin,s Full Moon Album circa 1982 on capitol recs... They were a class funk and soul band... Were they incorporated magic tricks and singing and playing their instuments at the same time saw them live in 1982... very special outfit indeed... check Freddie out on mystc merlin,s classic Mr Magician track from the above album also perfect, also from full moon... Freddie left the band soon after 1983, he got feed up with them trying to get him to be part of their magic tricks and singing together performances so when he sang with them he keep his feet on the ground. They did the playing and magic together he just sang... he said in an interview once these cats are trying to persuade me to get cut in half while im singing with them, but i love them cats still. please check out mystic merlin and that special full moon album and them two tracks listed... peace young soul rebel keep the land of the good groove going teach the yut dem...

Mystic Merlin had some great disco-funk albums, with Freddie Jackson as lead vocalist. My personal favorite is Mr. Magician. Freddie's solo career was huge. He had so many hits right from the start. One of his number one's, Hey Lover, had a beautiful jazz and quiet storm combination, which made it have an almost ethereal quality. Freddie's 1990 opus, Do Me Again, was his most consistent album, given the hit machine Barry J Eastmond, and Paul Lawrence wrote and arranged most songs. It was also his most successful, with both hit singles and a number one R&B album. My favorite is, It Takes Two, and it really is the only one with a smooth groove that is perfect for Freddie's talents.

Aw man, I resented Freddy off rip, they had him coming for Luther spot. I was like nah go siddown somewhere, but I had to give in, he really came with the soul! This was the song that did it. I forgave Melba Moore 😂 for bringing him out to light, actually loved their duet.

Oh memories of my teenage years. Freddie was right there with Luther Vandross. That was the time for male r&b singers. I hated that folks were trying to create a rivalry with the men that were out comparing them to Luther when they all had a different sound. WTBS, check out Eugene Wilde and Glenn Jones, super talented brothers that put out some great love songs during that time.
