The cool thing about this band is that when they recorded this, they were all under age 20. When Free formed, Andy Frazier (bass) was 15 years old. Paul Kossoff (guitarist) was 18, Paul Rodgers (singer) and Simone Kirke (drummer) were 19. Also, Paul Rodgers is one of the best voices in rock history.

Oh man. This is such a great freaking song 10 out of 10. OK so they were still playing this song in clubs in the 80s. I will tell you specifically 1985 because I was 16 and was having the best night of my life. I met a guy. We danced for a couple of hours. He did not take me home to his place but he did take me to a hill about half a mile from the club. And we watched a meteor shower for two hours. Don’t even remember his name never saw him again. It’s just a wonderful memory and that song brings it all back every time

Seagull and Silver, Blue and Gold from Bad Company are his best! Soft and beautiful songs. If you like Paul's early stop/vocal cutoff in this song, in Silver Blue and Gold's chorus' eponymous line, the "Blue" is this cutoff that eluded my terrible but joyous attempts to sing along.

Looks like he's accepted those prayers, this is from last year "Asked if he is healthy now, Paul told KSHE 95: "Yeah, thank you. Thank God, really. But I do thank hyperbaric [oxygen therapy] as well, which is the treatment you can get. You just sit in there, oxygen under pressure. The only thing you feel is a little bit in your ears; it's like flying on a little puddle jumper airplane. But that's all. And then you just watch a movie for an hour and you're done. You breathe in and [the oxygen] recirculates through your brain and it's very good. It took a year and a half to get my voice back after all that stroke."

The next Paul Rodgers song you should check out is Shooting Star by Bad Company. The guitarist of free is Paul Kossoff. He died of an overdose in 1976 and Shooting Star was written a year before, but it might as well be Kossoff's eulogy. It's almost as if Rodgers knew what was going to happen on some level and had the perfect song already recorded.

Paul Rodger’s was once compared to Ray Charles and Roy Orbison! And you know that the ultimate compliment is the fact that he’s known as “The Voice!” 2Amazing songs are Fire and Water, and I’ll be Creepin. Another amazing vocalist is Colin Blunstone. He is the singer of The Zombies. Also a solo artist. My parents saw both Paul Rodger’s in 1969 and they were blown away. Also saw Colin Blunstone in 1970/71 and were blown away. Colin Blunstone’s was singing 3 feet off the mic all night. Colin is much smoother and his range is incredible! Love your reactions Elizabeth! I love your joy and passion for music! My step-dad was/is a music teacher and session musician and he played with both Paul Rodgers (the singer here) and Chris Rea back in the day before either of them got huge and were just in/around the Middlesbrough/Teesside area. I never knew until I was almost 20 as I never stepped foot into his "Music Room" in the house growing up because he had a big expensive Piano and a ton of guitars, amps, pedals etc. that were originals from the 60's, 70's and 80's and my mum always impressed upon me never to go in there on pain of death in case I accidentally broke something. Sure enough, hanging up on the walls are pictures of him with a whole bunch of musicians that he'd worked with over the years including Paul Rodgers and Chris Rea, but also Gary Moore who I absolutely love

... Now, you're GETTING CLOSE... CLOSER!!! He also sang with Queen, after Freddie died, for a time!... HINT, HINT!!!!!!!!!! And, you're watching ABSOLUTE ICONIC LEGENDS HERE!!! And, Paul just ABSOLUTELY, INTUITIVELY KNOWS HIS VOICE AND BODY! Simply put, He's a professional, and HE KNOWS WHAT HE'S DOING! 😸... He not only sounds " crunchy ", but QUITE thick, liquidy, and kind of silvery... And he ABSOLUTELY, COMPLETELY CONTROLS EVERY LITTLE NUANCE OF EVERY NOTE THAT HE SINGS, WHILE MAKING IT LOOK COMPLETELY EFFORTLESS!!!!!!!!!! THERE IS THE MARK OF A TRUE PROFESSIONAL, AND dare I say it... LEGEND!!!!!!!!!! And I know personally, probably the best male singer I have ever heard, and I've heard A LOT!!!!!!!!!! He told me that he thinks about EACH NOTE THAT HE SINGS!!!!!!!!!! And the stage performance: is an absolute practiced art and science, to make it look COMPLETELY EFFORTLESS, well still delivering a COMPLETELY PERFECT AND FLAWLESS PERFORMANCE!!!!!!!!!! And now, I think you're getting into the REALIZATION about WHY QUEEN & BOSTON are SO EXTRAORDINARY, EXCEPTIONAL,& SPECTACULAR!!!!!!!!!!! By the way, you need to go listen to Boston, to hear Brad Delp!!!!!!!!!!! If you can find it, you should also listen to isolated vocal tracks; they are SPECTACULAR!!!!!!!!!!... And I'm not using these exclamation marks at random!

The studio version, I think, has a noticeably slower tempo- understandable- and might not be as "fun" as the live version, but musically it's a better product. Again thats cool live is supposed to be fun, even different, but the band's original vision for the song gets lost in the onstage antics. Boy I sound like a grumpy, jaded old man. Sorry. Two things that I found interesting: 1) The audience! Just sitting in their seats, taking it all in. I kind of like that. 2) The bass player, by design, does not play on the intro, or the verses. Cool that it still sounds so great with just guitar, drums and lead vocal in those segments. I think there may actually be a few bands out there currently who choose not to have a bassist.

String muting is a very common and frequently used technique. Sometimes done by the right hand, as well as what you noticed here with the left hand. Another technique is by keeping left hand fingers on the strings but lifting them off the frets enough to stop ringing out. Muting is used in 99.9% of songs I think it’s safe to say. It’s just not that noticeable usually.

I saw him there too and I was conflicted. Generally I liked and I liked the combination, but they were right not to call him a replacement for Freddy. Rodgers doesn't have (or need!) the operatic clean voices and the reach of Freddy. His best moments were when they did a few Free and Bad Company songs. However much I enjoyed Queen and Paul Rodgers, I think Adam Lambert is a better fit for Queen. Which is saying nothing about Rodgers' quality. Just about the combination.

I saw Paul with Queen, and loved and hated it at the same time. Paul is one of my favourite singers, and Queen my favourite band, but the combination was weird. Queen's music is theatrical, Pauls was the blues. Technically it was done very well, and I enjoyed it, but the styles didn't mix great I thought.

The Hall has shown very little interest in actually inducting the greatest rock musicians. Paul Rodgers is often considered the top rock vocalist, and Keith Emerson was of similar importance as a keyboard player. Wouldn't you want to recognize the people who were the best at creating the music?
