He started his solo channel when Covid hit. He works on these in the evenings, after he puts William, his child, to bed. During the day he's busy working on VoicePlay videos. (He does everything for his own channel, and nearly everything for his half of the performances that VP does.) This is my favorite, just gorgeous. And Geoff #2 is my favorite. Not the drama of the low notes, but that silken gorgeousness is just everything. Shenandoah is an old American folk song. I've known it since I was a kid, but don't recall any big popular versions. It was just always there. Geoff's arrangement lifts it from being good enough to last hundreds of years, to heart-stopping. On a lighter note: don't miss his Halloween songs, esp. Headless Horseman and Monster Mash. You get beauty and humor together.

Sissel Kyrkjebo, beautiful soprano from Norway, has the best female version of "Shenandoah," in my opinion. And Geoff has the best male version, in my opinion, though I've heard several covers of it since childhood as well.

Geoff has his own channel with many fine songs covered in his deep bass style. And he always clones himself to achieve the four or five part harmonies he creates. This is possibley the most beautiful of them. Gentle and soothing. It's hard to choose favourites but Country Roads is one of mine. And his Christmas song from last year, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen. Although I have to also include two Halloween covers: Monster Mash from last year and Ghost Riders, just released this month.

All of his covers are mind-blowing. Love every one of them. Kathy picked this song, so Geoff made his wife very happy. You will enjoy the Geoff quartets and sometimes the Geoff quintets in his videos.

I always enjoy Geoff's music. He has many good songs on his channel, and they're almost always done with 4 Geoffs. I would recommend that you do Monster Mash next considering the fact that Halloween is just around the corner. Something else to consider, if you enjoy listening to audio books he has done a goodly number of short stories, mostly in the horror genre.

The Shannadoa river runs thu a valley with the same name in Virginia at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains to the Atlantic. The Missouri River starts in the Rocky Mountains and runs all the way to the Mississippi River thu St Louis. A lot of pioneers left the south after the Civil War and went west to start a new life.

My absolute favorite of Geoff's. Yes, this one touches your soul. Shenandoah is an American folk song, over a hundred years old.
@firefighterchick2 жыл бұрын
It's not technically a Country song but more an Americana folk song. It's origins are probably around the time of the Civil War (1860's), best theory is probably written by American and/or Canadian fur trappers canoeing down the Missouri River. The "I love your daughter" may be in reference to the daughter of a Native American Chief named Shenandoah who one of them was in love with. Shenandoah Valley (also a town and river)is an area near the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia. I would to hear more! Amazing!
@johnbattles10022 жыл бұрын
I live in the South (Georgia specifically), and I love the Blue Ridge & Appalachian mountains! Went to Roanoke, Virginia once when I was in college with a college friend who was from there. Roanoke is right in the heart of Shenandoah Valley, and it was absolutely breathtaking country!

@@firefighterchick , you are correct on both counts -- very historic and very beautiful! So much to see and do! My hometown is Rome, GA, established in the 1830's, and named after Rome, Italy, for its literal seven hills. Rome's Berry College is the largest college/university campus in the entire world, and has several times been voted the most immaculately beautiful campus in the world, topping out even the Ivy League schools plus Oxford & Cambridge! Hope you can visit our wonderful state sometime (but take care driving through Atlanta -- it's crazy traffic! Lol!). And yes, the "Southern hospitality" you hear about is still, for the most part, true. In 2015, my family and I traveled to upstate New York to participate in my son's wedding near Fort Drum where he was stationed. We went through a part of Pennsylvania near the Amish regions. I loved it and wish I could have spent more time there! Pennsylvania and Upstate NY Adirondack region are both very beautiful! God bless, have a wonderful day, and thank you for your response!

@@johnbattles1002 I actually live in Lancaster County, which known as Amish Country. My particular area is becoming rather built up but the central and southern end of the Country is still farmlands.
I'm glad you started with this one as your first experience of Geoff's solo work. For me personally, it's in my top 3 of his covers, and criminally under viewed. It really showcases why Geoff considers himself a baritone first and foremost, as you could hear "Geoff #2" had a special emotion and control that isn't heard in his bass and tenor range. All of his songs are amazing, you can't go wrong with any of them! Personal favorites are Misty Mountains, Sixteen Tons, Ain't No Sunshine, Way Down, Ghost Riders In The Sky... ok, looks like I'm well on my way of writing down his entire song list, so guess I'll stop there, lol

The U.K has the beautiful song "Lock Lomond", & "Shenandoah" is that song for us Americans. I remember singing this song in choir class, in highschool, when I was a Sophomore (10th grade) in highschool. My Grandpa (my dad's father) heard it often when he was in the ARMY during WWII. Fun fact, my Grandpa got his Master's Degree at the University of Edinburgh after WWII was over. I even have a pic. of him in full Scottish uniform.

Obviously, a classic example of multiple personality disorder! Lol! Joking, of course! Geoff is absolutely incredible, multi-talented, off-the-charts with his range, humorous, insanely creative and innovative, and seems like just an all-around good guy, as well as a loving husband and dad! Glad I found him and Voiceplay! In my opinion, VP is the best a capella group of our day, with Homefree a VERY close second. What makes VP stand out, to me, is their story-telling theatrical abilities, not only with costumes, makeup, props, and backdrops, but even with their vocals!
@christinestromberg40572 жыл бұрын

My home is in the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia and a mile from the Shenandoah River. It’s so beautiful and peaceful. The word “Shenandoah” is said to be a Native American word meaning “Daughter of the Stars” and I’ve never seen such a magnificent night sky filled with so many stars against a black velvet sky. Our woods have beautiful wild creatures who make the forests their home. It takes your breath away.

Geoff did this one for his wife, Kathy. Did High and Dry for himself. This is beautiful. The song goes back to the 1800s when fur traders were plying the rivers. In this case, the fur trader had fallen in love with an Indian chieftan's daughter but he had to keep leaving her to ply the rivers for fur. I first learned it in my 3rd grade music class back in 1959. It was a haunting tale but lovely. I don't know how it could be any better than when Geoff does it.

Cheers, Craig, great reaction as always. I don't think VoicePlay's in any danger of splitting. Geoff's just had his own channel where he features covers and other content, in addition to his role as VoicePlay's bass. I think the man is just that creative and talented. Usually, you'll hear him with VP singing acapella, where he's doing instruments, layering himself, etc., on his own videos. Now that you know where his channel is, you should mine his Videos section for even more of his content for your reactions. You'll never get a copyright strike, as he's very appreciative of reactors, and his stuff is very popular among a loyal Geoff and VP fan base. He's got some Halloween stuff there that would be a lot of fun this month. Enjoy!
