George wrote, composed, and produced his music. This is what he said about Careless Whisper (written at 17): “I have always written on buses, trains and in cars. With "Careless Whisper" I remember exactly where it first came to me, where I came up with the sax line... I remember I was handing the money over to the guy on the bus and I got this line, the sax line... I wrote it totally in my head. I worked on it for about three months in my head."

Not many people who can write, produce, play all the instruments (and oh sing their own songs too) when in their teens/twenties. That was George Michael. Watch anything live from him…never a wrong note…perfection. Watch him hold his own with powerhouse women like Aretha Franklin, Mary J Blige and Whitney Houston. Watch him pay tribute to one of his friends and idol Freddy Mercury at the Freddy Mercury Tribute Concert where he blew everyone away. George died on Christmas Day and only after his death did we start to hear about all the charities he supported and individuals he help out financially that he didn’t even know but learned they needed help. He never told anyone about the things he did, that is not why he did it. How many superstars can you think of today or ever that would do that? George had a lot of loss in his life that he never recovered from. I miss him so much but like to think of him with his first love Anselmo, his mum Lesley and his little sister Melanie who died exactly 3 years after George on Christmas Day 2019. RIP George. I hope you are happy and at peace. Beautiful person with an angel voice.

It’s really difficult to explain to people from other countries, even the US, who are aware of George Michael‘s biggest hit singles, just what a massive star and how respected he is in the UK. He is beloved here, even by people who wouldn’t even normally like ‘pop’ music. When he died on Christmas Day in 2016, there was a shock wave across the country. His back catalogue is just phenomenal. It is rare to find an artist where you can just dip in at any point and discover something genuinely innovative and exciting, and with vocals that are unmatched. He was a very special person. I really recommend the MTV unplugged performances, especially the track ‘You Have Been Loved’which may be GM’s finest ever live vocal. It’s so sad that he has gone.

his song, ONE MORE TRY, im indebted to him for writing and singing that song. that song has saved my life, on numerous occasions, all because when you reach the very end of the song, the last words he sings are "maybe...just one more try." the entire song is about he no longer wants to try, hes sad hes angry he feels left behind and numb and depressed and despondent. he convinces himself hes truly done with everything, until he gets to the "maybe...just one more try." that song....has saved my LIFE. RIP George Michael!

George was 17 when he wrote this track. Took 10 sax players to try out before he found the right one. There are many great artists out there. But they are always looking for that great song, that great producer that great musical director. Not George MIchael, he wrote, sang, produced and did most of the music to all his tracks. He also did it with the WHAM songs. He did it HIS way. I'll never see another George MIchael in my lifetime. HIs band and backup singers were also great. Many stayed with him since his WHAM days. He collaborated with the best of them, Aretha (won the grammy for best duet), Whitney, Stevie, Smokey, Ray Charles, Tony Bennett, Queen, Elton, Garth Brooks, Elton, Beyonce, Pavarotti, etc. etc. etc. My fav will always be "As" with Mary J. Blige.
