Now imagine being with 10,000 people grooving and dancing just like you as this music is being created before your eyes, loudly on the greatest sound system that you felt with your whole body, and you’ll know why we kept going back as often as we could!

Great choice and glad you enjoyed it! I was at this show and was so happy when it was selected by archivist Dick Latvala because I had always raved about how epic it was too. The Chinacat>Rider from this show is stunning - definitely recommend headphones for that one as well... 🙂

The Grateful Dead are a wonderful band and the great thing about their music is there is always more fresh new stuff to listen to. The large majority of the concerts and they've played thousands (2292 to be exact) , are available with most being free on line. Also they have a huge catalog of songs they've done live (484 songs). Also even with the same song it is always performed differently. No 2 Dead performances are alike. If you get a chance check out China Cat Sunflower/ I Know You Rider from their Europe 72 album. To me that's the essence of the Grateful Dead packed into 9 minutes and 28 seconds. It is truly amazing.

This is a Norman Span cover. The actual name is Man Smart, Woman Smarter (singular, not plural). It's the same two chords as Aiko Aiko, so you always had to wait for the singing to know which song they were playing. And occasionally, they would play MSWS>Aiko Aiko.

Thank you, Sarah, for playing "Men Smart, Women Smarter". The Grateful Dead were a fabulous band that always jammed at their concerts. "Workingman's Dead" was one of their first albums and the first song is definitely worth checking out Sarah, It is called "Uncle John's Band" but the whole album is my favourite Grateful Dead album it is worth checking out if you have never heard it.

Arguably the greatest American rock and roll band. They lasted for 30 years, played nearly 3000 shows. Every show was a unique experience. Even if you hear every song they ever played, you'll never run out of magic and surprises from them that you've never heard before. A true dance band of an older tradition that was influenced by all music of the world.

This song ALWAYS got a great response from the ladies in the crowd. Wonder why? LOL. Get's 'em dancing. There is another song in The Dead's catalog that sounds similar, it is called "Iko Iko", or "Aiko Aiko", a New Orleans style bop that gets everyone moving. Lots of fun, just like a Grateful Dead show should be.

Your dead reactions so far have been absolutely delightful, but you’ve only just dipped your toe in the water. If you want to dive in, try out Dark Star > Wharf Rat > Dark Star from 2/18/71! Pay attention to the jam out of Wharf Rat. It is often referred to as simply “beautiful jam”. Enjoy!!

Love your energy! It's worth pointing out that this is a cover not an actual GD song. It was written by Norman Span (aka King Radio) who was from Trinidad, hence the calypso beat. Harry Belafonte covered this in the 1950s.
