First time seeing him was in 1982 in Dothan, Alabama, never forget it, when he was 26yrs old, he was hiking in Montana back in 1975 and fell almost 500ft off a mountain, "Country Boy Can Survive".

I'm a country girl, I was 24 when this song came out and yes Hank Williams Jr would be a fabulous rabbit hole to go down. I've fished from dusk 'til dawn and loved it, and no you don't miss anything when you are fishing! His father Hank Sr. was a great singer too and his son Hank III is pretty good in his own right! It was his friend that lost his life for $43, but you paid pretty good attention.

You should read the story of Hank Jr. falling 500 ft down a mountain while hunting. He had a friend and his son with hom. The friend hiked back for help while the son stayed with Hank trying to keep him awake. He had severe face and head trauma. Its why he wears the dark glasses and beard to hide the scars . God bless!

The best concert that ever went to was in 1983, It was in my hometown of Wilmington NC for the Azalea Festival. The Warm up act was a Young and up and coming group Alabama and the Headliner was Hank Williams Jr. I was working as Student security since the Concert was at the University I graduated from. I was also in the North Carolina Army National Guard at the time. I was only a few feet from the Stage. They were amazing performers. This classic Hank Williams Jr. is awesome! You really do know him if you were a football fan in 2016 when Hank's views made him too country to sing the "Are you ready for some football? anthem. Anyway, he was always dealing with tragic issues. I never was a big fan of Hank Williams Sr., a legend in country music, but I absolutely LOVE Hank Jr. You can see, hear, and learn about Hank Junior's challenges in life. He does many great songs, some are not mainstream but they are still awesome to listen to and they explain his unbelievable journey of the man. BTW, this was my first reaction from you. I love your musical understanding and thoughtful insights. BTW, take a listen to the live version of The Charlie Daniels band's "The Devil Went to Georgia" for a mind-bending treat. These artists are not like the mainstream country out there. They are in a genre that these artists called "Southern Rock".

It's really like a different world growing up in the country. We made our own honey from bees, got our own maple syrup from trees. Gardening, hunting, fishing, raising and butchering animals, canning and preserving that food... I just absorbed it all not knowing that not everyone knows how to do these things. I feel very blessed. You hit on this exactly when you said it's just normal to where you think it's typical and normal to eat squirrels and rabbits... And then I grew up and realized people find that very weird.

His reason for including the one part I think is to show that out in the sticks you know your neighbors. It's harder in a big city, and it wouldn't happen because a country boy is prepared to defend himself. Hence the message that in the country, it's easier to survive.

i was raised in a suburb of Detroit by parents from Kentucky & West Virginia. i tell folks i'm 1/3 Buckeye & 2/3 Hillbilly and i'm proud of it. Love your excitement over finding new music! Thx for the channel. One thing tho. With all due respect: In any song, please consider a couple of things: 1.) Allow the 1st verse to complete, before interrupting the music. The lyrics in the first verse of any song, usually set-up the story. In this case at 2:01, you chopped into arguably the single most important word in the entire verse. When you resumed, the word "mugged" was lost, and as we know, getting mugged is a major part of the story-line in a later verse. That 1 lost word at the beginning is the reason that the killing seemed "out of place" to you. 2.) Another helpful trick to avoid the above is: Whenever you pause to talk... always rewind the song a few seconds before resuming. That way, people's mind can resume the previous flow,...and nothing gets chopped. "Be kind and rewind" as we used to say! (Hitting the letter "J" will rewind 10 seconds...hitting the left arrow will take you back 5 seconds.)
