@randybass8842 Жыл бұрын
This band was not bubble gum. They was part of the British Invasion of the 1960s, when many rock bands from England came onto the American music scene. Bubble gum music was produced by people who were more capitalists than musicians to focus on the money, then putting together a band to play it for the tween crowd (10 to 12 years old, extending up to about 15), such as the Archies, the Partridge Family, and The Osmonds. The Monkees started out as bubble gum (put together through ads in a local LA newspaper), but they quickly evolved into a true artistic band. This song was in the same flavor of "I want to Hold Your Hand" by the Beatles, a bit youthful on the love angle, to be sure, but created and played by real artistic musicians.

Another old 'group' I don't believe you've touched on yet that were really popular in the late 50s & early 60s is the Everly brothers. Their songs 'Wake Up Little Suzi', Cathy's Clown', 'All I Have to Do is Dream', and 'Til I Kissed You' just to name a few. Oh and they also did 'Love Hurts' which you covered but not by them.. you did the Nazareth version from the 70s. And speaking of Nazareth.. you really should get back to them again.. possibly their songs 'Razamanaz', 'Holy Roller', 'Shanghai'd in Shanghai', 'Broken Down Angel', 'Woke Up This Morning', 'Hair of the Dog', 'This Flight Tonight', 'Turn On Your Receiver', etc., etc. 😀

Awe I love Herman's Hermits ,I was on my way home from the Cinema and some young Lads were sitting at the back of the bus and one was singing this song, turns out they had come from the local dance hall so I went there the following week, sure enough they were there and the boy singing walked me home and the rest was history this song is responsible for us getting together ..three children later ... seems so long ago now 💕..There's a kind of Hush is another great song of theirs

Amber, still waiting for you to react to Scott McKenzie’s “San Francisco (Be Sure To Wear Flowers In Your Hair)” your hippie soul will thank you. It’s the unofficial (yet official) anthem of the 60’s counter culture era ☮️🌼

My grandmother, in her late seventies at the time, loved that song, and assumed it was an old tradition, to wear flowers your hair, in S.F. 🤭

I grew up with Herman's Hermits as part of the mix...this tune, *Henry the Eighth* (my personal favorite) and *Mrs Brown, You've Got A Lovely Daughter* are what come to mind but there must be others... Herman's Hermits are like comfort food, tasty and familiar... Thanks S.W.

I actually think a lot of the 60's songs resonate with all of us because of their purity and simplicity. There is nothing complicated about this song, but the harmonies are wholesome and beautiful!

My very first album in 1964 (9 years old)! They came to Tulsa in 1965, or ‘66 and the back-up group was the Animals, so I got to go with my sisters who were 4 and 5 years older. My rock ‘n roll career had started (as a listener)! Stones, Beatles, The Who, Steppenwolf, Doors, Kinks, Dave Clark Five…..they just kept coming!

Guys these guys formed in like 63 or 64. Peter Noone the lead singer was 15 when they started up. He was already an actor at the time. The band made a few movies too. This band was part of the big British Invasion of the 60s. For more, try There's a kind of hush, or Mrs Brown you've got a lovely daughter, or Henry the 8th. Peter is in his 70s and still performing. I think his daughter is part of his show now too.

I saw Peter Noone (Herman) in concert in Toronto in 1992, and he was still great.

@@jhonyermo Agree. I didn't like most of what they did. Kind Of a Hush is about the only exception.

My 13 year old self was so enchanted by Herman's Hermits and this particular song. I still love them and their music. Peter Noone (Herman) has a Sirius XM radio show now called "Something Good".

I'm into Something Good was Herman's Hermits first hit in the USA.in 1964 It reached number 13 on Billboard singles charts, and went to #1 in England. It and Just A Little Bit Better (1965) are my favorite Hermania hits. There biggest hits were remakes of Silhouettes and Can't You Hear My Heart Beat and Henry The VIII I AM, all three from 1965. Dandy (written by Ray Davies of the Kinks) was their big 1966 hit. There's a KInd of Hush from 1967 was big as well. 1965 was their peak, They outsold both the Beatles and the Rolling Stones that year, Oops! I forgot Mrs. Brown, You've Got A Lovely Daughter from 1965 as well!

I've actually seen them, back in the '90's along with The Monkees, The Grass Roots and Gary Puckett And The Union Gap. Great concert, the Monkees were the headline act. My favorite song by them is "There's A Kind Of Hush"........all over the world tonight...... 🙂

Rob, you mentioned Bill Haley and his comets at the beginning. You need to react to Bill Haley & his Comets - "Hot Dog, Buddy, Buddy" - from "Don't Knock The Rock" - HQ 1956" It's a great video, and performance.

Herman's Hermits were a huge British invasion group from the mid-'60's. You might want to check out "A Must to Avoid", "No Milk Today" and "Can't You Hear my Heartbeat?" Perfect British rock!

If you like harmonies, try the Hollies "Look Through Any Window." One of their members was Graham Nash who went on to form Crosby Stills and Nash. (They had a lot of other great hits too. "Bus Stop" is a "meet cute" love story.)

Yes, if you want The Hollies, here are the songs: "Bus Stop" "On A Carousel" "Carrie-Anne" "The Air That I Breathe" "Long Cool Woman In A Black Dress" (this is very different than the typical Hollies style) "Peggy Sue Got Married" Buddy Holly & The Hollies (if you can find it. The Hollies added instruments and vocal harmonies to Buddy's original apartment recording which consisted of a vocal and acoustic guitar.)

The lead singer's name is Peter Noone. I was in grade school when these guys came out sometime after The Beatles. I remember I wanted to be the next Peter Noone. He is still performing to this day and sounds great.
