I wish I could go back to time I'd heard this song for the first time, over and over again. It was a thrilling, mind blowing experience. To this day, it still gives me goosebumps. The most haunting song/performance ever. This is the song that introduced me Hua Chenyu. I call him The Chinese Mozart. He has many haunting songs like this.

Such an amazing performance. Love it so much. I have seen it countless times and it never gets boring. Their is a prestage interview which gives a little more context why he performed this song this way. His parents separated when he was very, very young. 2 or 3 years old I think. He grew up by his father which always was away for work. He have had nannys of course but rejected them. He felt like : If he can't get love from the people he has to trust the most ( his parents) how can he receive love from others? So he was in a cylcle of wanted to be loved but rejecting it at the same time. He said it was very painful for him. Also to rearrange this song was painful because he had to go back to his dark memories of the past to do so. He hoped to make people aware of people like that. That the people will reach out to them because he knows that deep in their hearts they need love. He thought he will get the last place that day with this performance. Because everybody told him to not perform it that way. But he didn't cared and performed it the way he thought is the best. And it turned out to be the second place.😉🤩 He was really surprised. Hua Hua is really amazing. So happy I found him a few years ago. I am so happy to be a martian 🥰.

Wow such a beautiful song! And his voice is enchanting! Some parts of the lyrics hit deep, because a few days ago my girlfriend and I broke up after 6 years. And because I decided to go on a solo hike in Lapland later this year, so literally I will walk from day till night for 3 weeks. And also I am going from North to South (not South to North). So this is amazing! Thanks for sharing this!

Mesmerising performance. I think Hua caught in his simple lyrics, the essence of today's ambitions on human life. Be constantly alone and on the move, always the center of attention and admiration but never truly known, enjoying only happy times of every interaction but never their sorrows. As if we ever could, to enjoy you need to suffer, how much, is your only choice in life. PS: This song is a refined edition of his audition in "Super Boy" 2013 which stunned the judges.

He wrote the song he used for his Superboy audition; this is a Cui Jian song. In other words, they aren't the same song, though clearly he used a lot of the same elements in the arrangement. I agree that they sure sound a lot alike. Don't know why I felt compelled to tell you this. Just mouthy I guess.

Yes, we do appreciate substance, and thank you for providing it with your review/reaction. :-) You'll find a lot more - a *lot* more - substance in HCY's work. His melodies are nuanced, complex, and interesting, and the lyrics he uses are much deeper than you'll find in most mainstream music. It is a cover that he totally rearranged which he is well known for this talent. Please continue finding more of his performances. For those new to "Hua Hua" he is a prolific Composer/music arranger, multi instrumentalist. He does every genre you can think of.. Rock/Metal, Rap, Reggae, Ballads, Pop, SynthPop, Accoustic, Broadway, Traditional Chinese and every other genre you can think of. He embodies the persona of the song and.. PERFORMS from THAT persona. He is Freddie Mercury, David Bowie, George Michael, Axel Rose, Matt Bellamy, Thom Yorke, Prince rolled in one person. He is simply the best PERFORMER on the Planet, and most in the West aren't even aware of him.

@@Lulabee2024 if you are new to Hua Hua you get English subtitles with most of his performances, thanks to Chinese speaking fans transcribing them. (There's a "Hua Chenyu English Subs" group). His Concerts are wonderful and they are on KZbin with English Subtitles. If you tell "Martians" (Hua Hua fans😂... you'll find out why) what genres you like, they'll suggest performances. There are literally hundreds as he has also appeared on many Entertainment shows as a Judge/Mentor, or even in a show (Ace v Ace) where he not only sang, acted, and discussed his life. but competed in games for the Host Team... Great fun. If you you are interested in WHO Hua Hua is, suggest you watch Singer 2018 in order, as he told his life in order (starting with Qi Tien... and ending with "I am what I am"). There is a story arc. His latest Concert (Mars 2021) is a feast for the eyes and ears). If you are new to him, you are in for an amazing journey. 🤗

When he was a young boy he lived in a Mansion and was basically raised by servants .. his Father was never home .. he was so closed off he almost lost his language he started to sleep with a knife under his pillow he was so "lost in himself" this song personifies his journey from being almost catatonic to a functioning person again .. very amazing ... this song is one of my Favourites but he has another song called Dad I'm Home it is extremely good but also very very heartbreaking .. Yes, just so sad the Official version of this performance has been taken down, as it was just so superbly filmed, to build the pathos. Hi, may I suggest reacting to Zhou Shen..another fine Chinese singer with the song 'ring my doorbell". I dare say that song has some interesting lyrics psychologically speaking. And Zhou Shen does a masterful job conveying the emotions. ( the mango tv single version does not have English subs but the Hunan tv show full episode does. the title of the video is " [English sub] Singer 2020 EP 10..." The full title actually speaks of Hua Chenyu so he is in the episode as well. Zhou Shen starts at about the minute 10:00 mark

You might want to add this viewpoint. In China, and other countries that were Buddhist at the time, monks would travel, and survive by begging for alms as they went. Householders would donate food, etc., appreciating the spiritual effort the monks would be making. These efforts of years of meditation would hopefully result in the transcending of the ego ("not knowing who I am" ). This guy is pretending to be a legitimate monk, and wants all of the benefits of being provided for and not having to work for a living, but has not grown beyond the desires for the same materialistic pleasures he has always had (eg.romance). So he has an inner conflict and sense of guilt over the situation - and sees himself as a bit of an impostor, or a "fake monk". That was my impression of the song.
