I feel that Hobi is saying that he wants to repay our love and faith in him by touching our hearts even if in the smallest way, with the lightest touch like a butterfly. I love that he chose to write this song as a temporary goodbye to ARMY until his return. In his live he mentioned that he poured his heart and soul into this song and I feel this will come through to ARMY'S as they listen to it.

This song is like a “thank” song for Army, before his Military Service. Jin also did it with his song “the astronaut”. Now its time for Hobi 😢. But you’re starting this journey, you’ve a lot of Job to know and Love them and their music. Enjoy!

"To repay you even from afar, just like a butterfly" Strap in, rant incoming ;) I take this as him expressing his wish to repay everything we the fans have done for him and given him. The previous line, "Even my walk was made of your love and your faith" kind of makes this meaning obvious when you read them together in my opinion. This song is also kind of his "farewell" sendoff to ARMY before doing his mandatory military service. He has now officially started the enlistment process, so I feel like he's saying with this specifically that he's grateful for how far he's come and for the road he has walked and even while he's far away (doing his military service), he will continue for us and come back to us again. Now, the butterfly could be a reference to the theory of the butterfly effect itself (BTS has incorporated it into their storyline before, so I don't feel like it would be a stretch to think of that meaning here, too). I think you know what the Butterfly Effect is, but in case you don't, it basically describes how the flap of a single butterfly's wings can lead to a tornado forming elsewhere. It goes in line with him being far away from us for a bit but still trying to repay us for what we've given him in the hopes that it reaches us. BTS also has an older song called Butterfly (such a beautiful song, btw!!), which I think this line is also a reference to! Some of Butterfly's lyrics are: Will you stay by my side Will you promise me If I touch you, that you might fly away, that you might be shattered, I’m scared scared scared I would stop the time Once this moment passes by, that it might become something that didn’t happen, that I might lose you, I’m scared scared scared BTS have expressed their fears of ARMY leaving them while they're away doing their military service, and they continuously ask us if we will wait for them to come back again. With this in mind, I think j-hope is also asking us to please still be by his side even while he's away. That he is always thankful for our love and our faith in BTS, that he will always try to repay us for the things and opportunitues we've given him, and that he asks us to promise to still stay by his side until after this moment (his military service) passes. Anyway, those are just my immediate thoughts on this line :) I would love to hear what others think of it?

Jhope explains his lyrics: "For me, this song opens a door to my next chapter. I wanted to share new music as a gift to all of my fans. The song includes lyrics that say, “To repay you even from afar, just like a butterfly.” The message I want to deliver is that just like a butterfly, with a flap of my wings, I hope to reach as many people as possible, giving them strength and comfort" The butterfly effect metaphor from chaos theory where it's thought that a small change in initial condition can have major consequences in the outcome of that event.

JCole has been j-hope's idol for a long time, he formed who Hobi is. J-hope wrote this for Cole. He interpreted Cole's lyrics in dance, which is what he used to do when he was just starting out. What I love is in Cole's lyrics even if you aren't religious it still resonates. It has a sense of the awe and beauty of life. A butterfly can be symbolic of so many things. Changing into something better. A transformation. He is going into the military, so things will change. Butterflies are light and don't hurt their surroundings. For me, I love the idea of in that concrete jungle a beautiful piece of nature (a bit of God's creation) floats around in the wind and if you pay attention it will always be with you and will give you a moment of divine hope. Anyway, loved your reaction. And this song is amazing. Reminds me of the 80's when I was full of hope. I am a Shakespearean actress and people have always been surprised by how much I love Hip Hop and rap. I love lyrical rappers. They are poets. 😘💜🧡🫰🏻

"to repay you from afar, just like a butterfly" he's talking about the Butterfly Effect, how small things can grow to have far reaching consequences. BTS also have a song called Butterfly, which talks about their fears that the love and support of ARMY that propelled them so far will one day fly away like a butterfly. edit: lol we were all typing the same comment at the same time, when i was writing this there were only two others

JCole is JHope's idol. (even naming himself)He was heavily influenced by him. Once you have gone through more of BTS discography you will understand the butterfly references & the universe refrences. The Golden Corral reference means he looks at things as more of a buffet, than a top 10 list. I'm sure ARMY will give you more context.

to repay us like a butterfly. Its like, we've helped, and let him fly, and so he s repaying us with a beautfiul sight, even from afar. Thats what i get from that line. When you let a butterfly fly away, you re left with a beautiful sight, its wings, its way of flying, everything, just makes you happy to watch it.

I don't know with the butterfly either! For me, I wondered if he meant the butterfly effect. Like he's hoping the good things he does will ripple and improve the lives of others, even "from afar" because he can't possibly reach all of us. But everything he does is still "as always, for us" :) thanks for another thoughtful reaction!

It's not surprising you wouldn't get the reference to butterfly without context. As you hear more of their music and watch more of their videos you'll see that butterfly or butterflies are recurring theme both lyrically and visually. In fact there is a BTS song called Butterfly. It represents different things at different times. Sometimes it's just the elusive dream that's being chased. Sometimes it represents delicacy. There are more that you'll find along the way. J Cole's line about the top 10 list and the Golden Corral refers to the Golden Corral B Buffet restaurants. Show him a top 10 list and he's going to eat. On a personal note: I don't know that anyone has ever said rap wasn't real but I never listened to a lot of rap because it's not real singing. I prefer melodic/lyrical songs. Which lyrically can say the same things as rap and touch on the same subjects as rap often does. I have come to appreciate rap more as an art form since becoming ARMY.
@msmichellewinchester
@msmichellewinchester Жыл бұрын
I think the butterfly line is about how he wants to repay ARMY for what they've done for him and since he can't do it in person, he'll do in through the so called "butterfly effect" - doing what he percieves to be small things, that will hopefully have a large impact on the people who's supported him. I think that's the main meaning, however it could also be a reference to BTS' song Butterfly, which is about the fear of losing someone or something that is very dear to you. There are parts in that song that are basically asking for reassurance that this beautiful moment will last forever, that it won't leave you. So I think he might have used butterfly as a double meaning here.

I don't know if anyone has pointed this out for you yet, but since you love J. Cole, I would LOVE to see you reacting to BTS' cover of J. Cole's Born Sinner! They perform it in their "Proof Live" together with a couple other (beautiful) songs! I don't know if you know who Anderson Paak is, but he's on the drums for one of the songs! You also mentioned some videos ago that you would like to react to some of their more ballad-y songs, and they also perform one in the "Proof Live"! Actually, please just react to that at some point (obviously only if you want to, but I really think you will enjoy it! Especially the J. This song is basically Jhope's gift to armys in which he collaborated with his inspirational artist Jcole. He is the next member after Jin who will go to military service. Its a mandatory service of 18 months in south korea & Im not sure about age but I guess around 28, they all have to go to the military but their government gave them exemption bcuz BTS plays one of the major role in south Korea's economy but they getting so hate & criticism from the other kpop stans, media that they are postponing their enlistment blah blah. So in October after their busan concert their company sent us a notice that BTS cancelled their exemption by the government and will serve in the military for 18 months. Jin was the first one who went to the military on December 13th & the next will be jhope (his enlistment date is not out yet) & following jhope every member will go to the military and complete their duty and they promised us to comeback as 7 in 2025 🥺🥺 so Jhope wrote this song before going for armys & assures us that he will cheer for us from afar and the child in the start of the MV is representing army to whom Jhope saying good bye 🥹💜

The message for me from this , is that everything he does/says/feels is always for Army... the line about eternity I took as him meaning he'll feel that way forever... There are many different translations of the lyrics and one word can give the track a different meaning... but I think the gist is that he's done this track for those who have supported him and he'll be back to support them when his service is completed....

The whole melody began with Hobi whistling to himself and turning into this song. He described the song as ‘lo-fi hip hop’ which I think is exactly right. J-hope definitely leans towards old school beats, and record scratching is a recurring element in his music. Your question about the butterfly 🦋 line made me think about other symbolic uses I have seen in Korean dramas etc so I looked it up, and found the following (several sources all gave similar info): Butterflies' South Korean animal symbolism is pleasure, a life of prosperity, and joy. In traditional Korean art, butterflies are often seen with flowers. When shown together, they have a slightly different meanings. Together, they represent a state of contentment and prosperity. Last edit😆 - I think ‘beautiful rap’ describes Hobi’s work perfectly.

Butterfly has many different meanings in many different cultures. To refer someone as a butterfly can mean 2 different things for example one could be saying someone is light and beautiful or it could also been seen as someone who is a air headed and can never settle on anything and is always hopping off to the next thing. Butterfly can also mean change/development/rebirth . There are so many different connotations with the word Butterfly Edited to say I've just been informed of another use of the word Butterfly. eg a Butterfly is so beautiful and enticing that everyone wants to reach for the Butterfly but it's too far ahead of us mere mortals.

I think that a butterfly gives us joy, hope, and beauty. I think J Hope is trying to repay the fans in the way the butterfly does with that same joy, hope and beauty. J Cole's bar about the top 10 list/Golden Corral means that in a top 10 list of rappers he will eat them up like at an all you can eat buffet (Golden Corral restraurant).

Sorry for the multiple comments, I'm commenting as I watch heh. But I realized it might help you to know that K-POP technically isn't a genre, it's more an industry! SUGA has, in my opinion, described K-POP beautifully when he said that K-POP is more than just music - it's the combination of the music, dancing, performance, stages, clothes, makeup, etc. So think of K-POP overall as integrated content, where the specific content can be of any genre! And for good measure, K-POP is not just Korean music. The Korean music industry is vast and just as diverse as any other music industry. In fact, the general public prefers genres such as ballads and Rap/hip-hop, R&B/soul, and trot and they generally kind of look down on "idol-music". However, their negative opinion on K-POP is slowly changing in part because of the worldwide achievements of BTS. A fun fact: while the western music scene developed with the gramophones, K-POP developed with the television. So K-POP is known for the visual elements it brings to music! The history of K-POP itself is actually super interesting and can explain a lot! Some of the founding fathers of K-POP are the group Seo Taiji and Boys, who made music to challenge the strict society of their time's Korea. It was a time where the youth started rebelling and true democracy had finally been achieved.

On the street means a lot to us, it's kind of a farewell song for J-hope as he will serve in the military soon like all BTS members. Jin is already serving in the army and he left us a farewell song called "The Astronaut" which was written by Chris Martin from Coldplay, could you react to Jin's song. Oh and today is Suga's birthday in Korea, he is turning 30 and will soon be touring solo as Agust D, probably when his tour is over he will also go to the army and BTS will only reunite again in 2025 when everyone fulfills their military obligations, but that's it I think you can already be considered Army so welcome to the family 💜

This is his farewell for now song to ARMY, as he is forced to do his mandatory 2 year military service. Jhope wrote this song last year and then met his idol Jermaine and got him to collaborate. Out of his respect for J.Cole he gave him the lion share of the song. Jhope used to have very few fans in the beginning, but has now taken the world by storm as an artist and a lovely, cheerful and sweet person (he is the Sunshine of the group, the mood maker). This is a difficult thing for him to do, but he decided to get it over with asap. We will miss him so much. Hobi, stay safe and take care - we will be here when you get back.

Hello 👋 Will you have ever considered about listening to another K-Pop bands? If it will have been opened up abou it, You should try 'Stray kids' band🌞😎 They have an unique, special and very high-quality music. The band is included by 8 members, that work very hard on producing their music by their own way, without any company's intervention. The band's music genres are different compares to other successful k-pop bands - this band is more a K-hip-hop/rap/edm than a just k-pop. If you are an open minded person (when it comes to getting know new musics) and will want to consider that anytime, I will be happy if you do some few reactions to their songs I will write as a list: 1. God's Menu 2. Thunderous 3. Venom 4. Maniac 5. Hellevator 6. Restrict 9 These songs are more groovy and rhythmic, but they have also quite and emotional songs too. I hope you will see my comment🙏 One for sure, I promise you, if or when you will start listening, you will never be disappointed❤️ *I highly recommend you* *(Sorry if I have some many English grammar mistakes in my comment - English is not my native language)*

You never quite get what you were expecting from BTS. That is because they are innovators, and do things their way. Butterflies appear to have some sort of magical or spiritual significance in Korea. I may be incorrect here, but they come up a lot in Kdramas.
