They had some excellent musicians in their own right. Wilson Felder, Stix Hooper, and Larry Carlton. The Crusaders, over the years had various musicians in the group. I still listen to them 40 years later. It never got old to me

I remember playing Joe Sample albums in my parents basement and my dad coming down to find out who he was.I had to tape the albums on cassette for him.His album Carmel which followed this one was also straight🔥. 🎶🌴

Hey Disco great request! You beat me to it. I was debating if I wanted to request this cut, or the live set In London at Royal Albert Hall. I think this is Joe’s best composition and I hope that it will be put in conversations with Beethoven or Bach or Mozart. I think it is that level of composition, if not more because Joe had to arrange for drums. Thanks for this request. Music doesn’t get better than this and I’m glad that I’m hearing it here rather than on the Weather Channel. And J Joe Sample is a cut above other 70’s music.

Just loving your feel for the music. I grew up on Joe Sample, but only ever had the honour to see a live performance on his one and only visit to our South African shores. What an amazing evening that was. We all left feeling we had just visited an honourable family friend. Miss him so...

His original group was called the Jazz Crusaders. It was shortened to the Crusaders.

I believe this was his solo debut. Half of the album is superb. Joe Sample's music taught me how to feel through each note. I hope it does the same for you. 🎹🎹🌹🌹🌹

If you haven't already done it check out the band Joe was a member of The Crusaders some cool jazz/funk from foremost the '70s. If you gonna do one song it's Honky Tonk Struttin'.
