We saw this band in concert back in '81..They put on a wonderful show. I was so saddened when the lead singer (James "J.T." Taylor) left the group. He had a fantastic voice.
@ujimajame46013 жыл бұрын
I listened to everything they did after he left and the guy they had replacing him sounded just like him. He did return with the "State of Affairs" album (on the premise that the records would say "featuring J.T. Tsylor") however, but they just didn't score on the charts becayse they didn't choose the right records to release.

Soul Train ran from October 2 1971 to March 27 2006. (That's 35 years.) I grew up watching both it and American Bandstand. Back in the day (and I can say that because I was a total of 11 years old when this song was released) if you didn't watch both of those you knew nothing about current music. Thanks for reacting to some "grown folks" music!

The song I think you were trying to remember maybe was ‘Boogie Oogie Oogie’, by the female guitar & bass duo, Taste of Honey. That one has similar topic about not thinkin you to cool to get on the dance floor, & hit in like ‘78, when disco was still major. Kool & the Gang had a late disco hit called Ladies’ Night. That & this one you played would both be mad popular on the roller skating rinks too. The way you was movin a little bit was how peeped be groovin on skates. Kool & the Gang is a major force of ‘70’s r&b, as well as ‘80’s video era hits. P Diddy & Mase’s 90’s hit ‘Harlem World’, was straight up sample of KATG’s ‘74 hit Hollywood Swingin, Definitely not no one hit wonder, just as popular as other music bands like Earth Wind & Fire, just not as deep. The 1980 KARG hit Celebration, was a no. 1 Billboard hit, which became like an anthem for parties, weddings, & sports teams. They may be the only large soul group to have done that, not even EW&F, or even mixed bands like War, Sly & the Family Stone, Tower of Power, or Average White Band accomplished that. Other KATG hits: 70’s - Jungle Boogie, Summer Madness 80’s - Too Hot, You Can Have It, Joanna, Fresh, Cherish the Life, Emergency.

Hey Twon! It's Jen! Oh mannnnn have you hit on a great group! This rabbit hole I hope you go down a bit. The trumpets, saxophone, & smooth R&B voices have made them legendary.
