👉The wind instrument you hear, the Duduk, considered the national instrument of Armenia, is one of the oldest instruments known to mankind and was declared a UNESCO Intangible World Heritage Site along with its music in 2005. The Duduk has been playing in today's Armenia and the Caucasus for over 1500 years. The Duduk is a woodwind instrument made of apricot wood (short oboe) with an extremely large double reed that is up to ten centimeters long and up to three centimeters wide. The Duduk makes a thoughtful and melancholy sound. The soft tones emanate a magic that casts its spell over and over again. The unique sound of the Duduk has now fascinated the whole world. * The legend of Duduk: The young wind began to play with a beautiful tree on the mountain, wonderful sounds flew over the mountains. The prince of the winds was annoyed by this and caused a great storm to rise. The young wind tried to defend his tree, but his strength was not strong enough. He fell at the feet of the prince of the winds and asked him not to destroy the beauty. He agreed, but at the same time punished him: 'If you leave the tree, it will be destroyed'. Time passed, the young wind got bored and rose once into the sky. The tree died, leaving only a branch that was hit by a gust of wind. A young man found this branch and cut a pipe from it. But the voice of that pipe was sad. Since then the Duduk has been played in Armenia: at weddings, funerals, in war and in peace.

Seen many comments of the Duduk being played (an ancient double reed instrument made of apricot wood), at the beginning of this composition. A comparable modern western instrument is the English Horn, also made of wood and is a double reed, simular but larger than an oboe and in a different key than an Oboe. Whichever was used, it matches Diana's voice perfectly because of the overtones both instruments produce, which Diana is blessed with an abundance of overtones. Having played in numerous orchestras with musicians that play English Horns, not to be confused with Brass French Horns, to my ear it sounds like an English Horn but very well could be one of the three different sized Duduks being played.

Hi, Diana's name is quite easy to pronounce correctly. All that you have to do is forget your preconceived notions of how words "should" sound. Our minds are programmed to the point that most people can't hear the proper pronunciation. The original, of this video, is on Diana's channel. I, too, have always found the continual mispronunciation of Diana's name to be quite puzzling. I am a native English-speaker from the middle of the United States; but once I heard Diana say it, I've found both her first and last names to be quite easy to pronounce. It is the "o" in her last name that really seems to throw most English-speakers off. They both mispronounce the o, and they insist upon accenting the o when it shouldn't be accented at all. It is a good thing that Diana kept her birth familial name when she was adopted. (She did change her patronymic.) If she had taken her foster father's familial name at the time her adoption papers were filed (as would be commonly done in the United States), she would have been Diana Khaybrakhmanova. That would have really been a tongue-twister for English-speakers.

Yes she's singing in French here, but with a different sound on the last "e" sound at the end of "dance". In French the "e" is typically not pronounced, but she uses more of a Spanish pronunciation of the "e". Julio Iglesias did the same thing decades earlier when he used to sing in French. Women absolutely loved him! LOL! Like father like son (Enrique)!

You are talking very interesting about music traditions and that we can jump to some parts of the world thanking to music. But in Russian nationality the music traditions are slavonic, and it has radical difference with east (masulmans and induists in general) traditions. It's rather rough to combine these culture worlds into one mid-east something. But when You hear some cord steps or specific instruments, You are right more often, speaking that it eastern things. Greetings from Scotland! Yes, this is a famous French song by "Indila". The flute instrument you enquired about is called a "Duduk" also known as a Tsiranapoh translated as "apricot pipe" or "soul of an apricot tree" which comes from Armenia. It has the unusual twin reeds, hence the distinct sound. Diana has already sung in *7 languages, Russian, English, French, Spanish, German, Ukrainian and Arabic!!!* Somebody also mentioned Kazakh in the comments but I am not aware of her singing any performance in that language (any info appreciated). In Iranian Azerbaijan, our ascendants and grannies are still using Duduk in their ceremonies. They call it Dudak in Iran. So it's from somewhere between Iranian Azerbaijan and Armenia (not exactly clear, but is still used in these countries).

You are very close to the truth. It is Duduk - a Middle-eastern instrument especially important for the Armenian cultural identity. ("Duduk" is an Armenian word). It is a kind of flute made with apricot tree. Another Armenian name for duduk, Tsiranapokh, means "apricot tube" or "the soul of the apricot tree" The associations of Diana's voice with the sound of duduk are becoming more and more frequent. Diana's first album, "D.A.", includes a song titled "Duduk".

Yes 🙌🏽 you found the best cover by Diana at 15 years old before the sanctions she had almost 80 million views. You are right in your analysis…the instrument is middle eastern. She’s singing in French. I’ve been a fan for about five years now…back then a few comments said Diana actually was part Azerbaijani but then it could be a misquote. Her real mother is Russian and traumatized beautiful Diana at a young age but her Aunt helped her out of the situation but then she was placed in an orphanage where her new forever ♾️ mother ERINA found Amazing Diana. She acquired vocal lessons to facilitate her speech. Talented Diana has been performing since she was 4-5 years old. Please react to her original song “The Day You…”. it’s an absolute masterpiece and it highlights her extended vocal range. She was even going to learn French, but is currently studying English. She sang songs in 6 languages: Russian, English, French, German, Spanish and Arabic.
