Us, french canadian, sometimes feel alone in this sea of anglophones that North America is. To see an anglophone speaking about a french canadian hero like Karl Tremblay is pretty awesome to us. Thank you for your curiosity. Without any exaggeration, Karl Tremblay, little by little, established himself as a true hero of our culture by his authenticity, his humility and his humanity.

The lyrics are such a big part of what makes this band so good and popular. You might wanna consider running them through a translator for future videos. Just a suggestion. This one is titled "The Shooting Stars" and is about how fleeting life is and how it is important to make the most of every moment and enjoy the time you have with the ones you love. Of course this description is far from doing it justice. Their songwriter is incredibly talented and this song in particular is really poignant, full of humanity, bittersweet and beautiful all at once.

In english: If I stop for a moment To tell you about my life Just like that quietly In a bar, rue St-Denis I will tell you the memories Well engraved in my memory Of this time when growing old Was still very illusory When I annoyed the little girls Not far from the swings And my bag of marbles Became a real treasure And these snowy winters Building igloos And return with frozen feet Just in time for Passe-Partout But at the end of the road, tell me what will remain From the little school and the playground When paper planes no longer fly in the wind We tell ourselves that the good times are finally passing Like a shooting star If I stop for a moment To talk to you about life I notice that, very often We don't choose, but we endure And that the dreams of ti-asses Faint or repress In this raw reality Who takes us into the mold Thirties, belly The brats, the mortgage The joys and sorrows Good moves and failures Work, do your best Don't snatch, get by And hope to be happy A little before dying But at the end of the road, tell me what will remain Of our little passage in this frenetic world After existing to save time We'll say to ourselves that we were finally Only shooting stars If I stop for a moment To talk to you about life Just like that quietly Not far from Saint-Louis square It's because with you I'm good And that I was able to feel like worrying about it Because yeah, see too far It's no better than looking back Despite the old bitterness And the loves that pass The friends we lose in the fog And the ideals that break Life clings and is reborn As the springs return In a breath of fresh air Who soothes aching hearts That means if you want to stay tonight With me, the night is sweet, we can walk And even though we know that everything only lasts for a while I wish you were for a while My shooting star But at the end of the road, tell me what will remain But at the end of the road, tell me what will remain Only shooting stars

This song is not political, but many of their songs are. This song talks about how life goes by so fast like shooting stars, it starts with talking about childhood and then the 30s and maybe doing something significant before dying. It's both sad and happy lyrics on a happy music which is typical of groups here. And by the way he died on november 15th, november 28 was the state funerals. I would recommend their song ''Plus Rien'' talking about climate change, there is a video of it with both english and french lyrics.

Les Cowboys Fringants is qualified as a ''néo-trad'' groupe, its a subgenre of Quebec folk music, but its modernized and blend with rock and/or eletronica. Our folk music has links with Ireland's traditionnal (rythm and instument such as the violon and the accordion) music because of history (there was a massive immigration of irish people, so we have various influences).

Malajube - Étienne D'Aout -- Experimental Rock band Karkwa - L'acouphène -- Experimental Rock band Mes Aïeux - Dégénérations live version -- Folk Rock band Vulgaires Machins - Compter les corps -- Punk Rock Band Most of these are getting a bit old but rock is more my thing and that well has been pretty dry for a while in Québec. If you have specific genres you would like to hear I can point directions but pop and hip hop are not my thing so there's a low limit to my knowledge fo those.

I was bawling my eyes out, just to see an American react to les Cowboys, and show interest in quebecois music and culture. You should have taken the version at the Olympia in Paris. Beautiful and fun to watch. The thing that stands out now about this song is how somewhat prophetic or maybe ironic is more apt. The song is essentially describing how fast and illusory life is. How everything passes by quickly; we are but a "shooting star" in the scheme of things. RIP Karl! One of their best is, to my mind, "Plus Rien" (older by a decade or so than this one :) )

This is one of my favourite albums of all time, by one of my favourite bands! I am so deeply saddened by the death of Karl. It makes me so happy you like it! The genre is call “Neo-trad” which means “New traditional”, which basically means Political Folk-Rock. By “Political, it refers to human rights and how important culture is. Which, to some is seen as political, and others don’t. Here in Canada, it all depends. It is pretty political for outside of Quebec, but inside I wouldn’t really say it is we as a society pretty much agree on it. But I think a lot of the songs are messages for anglophones. I highly suggest “8 Secondes”. I also suggest my favourite song by the cowboys: “Les Reine”. I also suggest “Louis Hebert” which is about the first ever Canadian! (All the way from 1610!) I’d also suggest their biggest hit album: “Break Syndical” which is a very silly album at parts! Have a great day mon ami!

I felt so depressed when Karl died. I mean, for a band that was omnipresent everywhere, being the equivalant of Quebec's Beatles, I've always felt shrinked against there political standing while I've always labeled them as a Quebec seperatist ring. Thus, only people who wanted Quebec to be a country followed them and liked them while the rest of the population who did not follow their political ideology, like my dad for example kind of ignored them. That was what I thought everytime, until I saw the CBC media talking about them and seeing federalist friends sharing publications about his death in a positive way did I realise too little too late that it's everyone's band and not the other way around. R.I.P. Karl Tremblay 😢

If I stop myself for a moment To talk to you about my life Just like this calmly In a bar on St-Denis Street I'll talk to you about memories Well engraved in my memory Of this period in time where getting old Was still quite an illusion When I was annoying the little girls Not too far from the swings And my bag of marbles Was becoming a real treasure And those snowy winters Spent building igloos Coming home with frozen feet Just in time for Passe-Partout But at the end of the road tell me what's gonna be left Of the small school and the courtyard Whеn paper airplanes don't fly away in the wind Wе tell ourselves that the good times are finally passing... You might also like Evil Ways Drake Fairytale of Philadelphia The Philly Specials, Jason Kelce & Travis Kelce Red Button Drake ... Like a shooting star If I stop myself for a moment To talk to you about my life I notice that a lot of the times We don't choose but undergo And the dreams of the little ones Fade away or become repressed In this crude reality That picks us up in the mould The thirties, the beer gut The brats, the mortgage The happy moments and the pain The success and the failures Working hard, doing your best Struggling, getting out of it And hoping and be pleased A little bit before dying But at the end of the road tell me what's gonna be left Of our little path in this unbridled world After existing to save time We'll tell ourselves we finally were... .. Only shooting stars If I stop myself for a moment To talk to you about my life Just like this calmly Not far from St-Louis block It's because with you I feel good And that I don't feel like worrying anymore Because you know, looking too far ahead Isn't better than looking back Despite the old bitterness And the love that passes on The friends we lose in the fog And the ideas that break Life holds on and rebirths Like when spring comes back In a breath of fresh air That calms the hearts that are in pain So if tonight you feel like staying With me, the night is sweet we can take a walk And even if we know that everything lasts only for a moment I'd love for you to be for one moment... ... My shooting star But at the end of the road tell me what's gonna be left... But at the end of the road tell me what's gonna be left... ... Only shooting stars...
