What a great legend. Louis Armstrong was an American trumpeter & vocalist going back to the 20's-60's. His career spanned five decades & he is considered one of the most influential figures in jazz. He was known for his gravelly raspy deep voice & he was good at scat singing. Love his version of "Hello Dolly" from the movie with the same name starring Barbra Streisand in 1969.

Louis Armstrong is one of the giants of jazz. He was an incredible trumpet virtuoso who literally make his horn "speak." He revolutionized the art of jazz in the 1930s. (If you are interested in the history of jazz, I highly recommend watching Ken Burns' documentary series, "Jazz." )

Who is Louis Armstrong? Only the most important pop singer of the 20th century...and this century for that matter. Louis invented modern singing by interpreting the lyrics and making you feel what he's feeling while delivering the meaning behind the words. No one did that before him. He popularized and advanced the mode of scat singing, later perfected by the likes of Ella Fitzgerald. Louis also showed the world how performers should perform, dress onstage, and how to behave on and off the stage Aside from that Louis was the first superstar musician, the first innovative and first important jazz instrumentalist, and he is on the Mt. Rushmore of the great trumpet players of all time. In a nutshell, Louis is one of and perhaps the most important figure in the history of jazz and popular music. That's all.

I love your take on the song, because that is absolutely how I feel, no matter how many times I have heard it over the years. I am a retired RN and spent a good portion of my career taking care of cancer patients. It truly taught me how lucky we are to be alive. I really do appreciate every day and all the small things in life. As you said, just walk outside and take in all the nature around you, it is healing for the soul. ❤

Louis Armstrong is a great singer but he is even better when he is playing his trumpet. He has a distintive and powerful sound that is unlike anyone else I have heard. I highly recommend listening to his 1928 recording of "West End Blues". It is a true masterpiece. He was Satchmo to his fans but other musicians had another nickname for him, Pops.

It is beyond belief that young adults have never been educated on one of the most influential musicians of the twentieth century. Louis Daniel Armstrong (August 4, 1901 - July 6, 1971), nicknamed "Satchmo", "Satch", and "Pops", was an American trumpeter and vocalist. He was among the most influential figures in jazz. His career spanned five decades and several eras in the history of jazz.[

'Satch' and 'Satchmo' are both abbreviations of an older nickname, 'Satchel Mouth", from the way his cheeks and lips would inflate when he was playing the trumpet.

He was the ultimate entertainer, and bringing joy to the human race was his soul purpose in life. You hit the nail on the head with this reaction! Louie

It was first released in 1967 and it's been in countless movies and tv shows and has been covered by everyone from Roy Clark to Rod Stewart (that you both reacted to recently). One of the more famous covers of this is by a Hawaiian singer named *Israel Kamakawiwoʻole* (who was nicknamed "Brother Iz"). Satchmo was a legend even in his own time while still alive! You’ve got to listen and watch him do Hello Dolly from the musical movie! He’s so good and his trumpet playing is amazing too! He’s known for his trumpet playing more than his singing. But he could do both equally well! This song with him singing it, he makes you stop and think about the simple things in life and how if we had nothing else materialistic we could still say “what a wonderful world” we live in!❤

Congratulations on finding one of America's treasures. Louis was a New Orleans jazz band leader, incredible jazz trumpeter, and a singer of joy. This song was featured in Good Morning Vietnam, one of Robin Williams films. The contrast between the beauty of this song, and the horrors of the Vietnam War. It was truly a stroke of genius. If you haven't seen that film, do your soul a favor. A couple of my favorites, Summertime, Oh When the Saints Come Marching In, Dream a Little Dream of Me.

One of the most beautiful songs of all time with a beautiful message sung by the indomitable Louis (pronounced Loo-ee) Armstrong who had such a beautiful, positive soul! I've loved this song since I was a kid in the 60's and memorized it quite young. Yes, God has indeed given us a beautiful world. It has its troubles and problems, indeed; but it is rich in beauty and good things too. Life is what you choose to make it. I love and respect this legendary man with a heart of gold! By the way, his nickname was "Satchmo," and is probably the best jazz trumpet player of all time.

There's good reason why the main airport in Louisana is called The Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport!! This is the man who brought jazz to the masses - of all colors, which was quite an achievement in the deeply segregated world of more than 100 years ago now. He actually began his professional music career as a coronet (later, trumpet) player around 1918, while he was still a teen himself. Louis Armstrong (August 4, 1901 - July 6, 1971) was a musician all the rest looked up to, an entertainer everyone enjoyed, a man deeply beloved worldwide. Learn about him. Listen to his decades of great music. You'll love the journey!!

I used to listen to a radio show every week call 'The Ragtime Show', which played music from the 1890's to the 1920's. I became immersed in the music as if I was alive at that time, then I would hear Louis Armstrong for the first time playing with Kings Oliver's band, and, like the people at that time would say: "What was that?" I'm not a musician but I think what "that" was, was that Armstrong would play what he felt, he would improvise, instead of strictly playing the notes as written on paper.

The mouthpiece for a trumpet, is metal. He played his so much he damaged his mouth so often, he would have played with the pain too, that's dedication. He also worked in Paris France. He worked in movies like "the five Pennies" with Danny Kaye, and "High Society," with Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra? and Grace Kelly. As well as Dolly with Barbra Streisand. One is a comedy routine he does with comedian/actor Danny Kaye where they sing "When the Saints Go Marching In," from the 1959 movie "The Five Pennies." It is hilarious and amazing! The other is the song "Hello, Dolly!" from the 1969 movie of the same title and starring Barbara Streisand. He was an extraordinary and charismatic entertainer! WOWWWW. I've heard this song SO MANY TIMES, but never saw a video of Mr. Armstrong actually performing it... This was so special! SUGGESTION FOR YOU, Michael.... There's a song with a similar message titled: "A WINTER'S TALE" It's a Queen song, written by Freddie near the end of his life when he was really ill... but the imagery he's describing is BEAUTIFUL. It's a great song for the holiday season. ALSO... "THE MIRACLE" ...This is actually Brian May's favorite song written by Freddie, because they lyrics are so full of HOPE and OPTIMISM for the future, even tho Fred had a terminal diagnosis when he wrote it. (And, the music video is ADORABLE.) P.S. I think that Louis Armstrong also did a rendition of: "OVER THE RAINBOW"
