Wow!! It is so moving to see such a profound reaction to this music. Luciano Pavorotti is Italian, and is arguably the most famous tenor of all time. My heart almost stops whenever I watch videos of his performances. He passed away a few years ago, but there are many videos of him performing with other singers. Watch him with James Brown singing "It's a Man's World" - amazing! Thank you for your genuine appreciation of this phenomenal artist!

Luciano Pavarotti himself have stated that the best was Enzo Caruso , in fact it says that his voice was like God , sadly his voice isn't recorded with proper technology , of course I still love Pavarotti and I think he is one of the greatest even because it make him so humble after saying that 😭❤

Hey dude, VERY glad to see the effect Pavarotti had on you--you're the first person I've seen that has essentially said "Ave Maria" takes one away from all the negativity and stress in today's world--as I will inevitably watch Pavarotti sing this song a few times a year, because of HOW beautiful the combination of the song with Pavarotti's incomparable voice is, every time. Two words first come to mind when I watch Pavarotti sing this: BEAUTIFUL and POWERFUL. It may sound cliche, but there'll never be another Pavarotti. He is on a level all by himself.

When I was working my way through college at Philharmonic Hall back in the early 70s, my best friend at The Hall was The Artist's Assistant. His name was Earnest, and he was! He would make sure the artists were comfortable in The Green Room, and he made sure that Pavarotti had his hot tea with honey and lemon . Pavarotti would always speak of "The Voice", as if it was separate from him with a life of it's own. He said that it was a gift from God, and even with all his hard work and practice, he would not take credit for it's existence. I think he was as overwhelmed by it as his audience was! What a wonderful man he was!

I admire that you are open minded to other types of music. Luciano Pavarotti was my fathers favourite. Growing up I heard all the time that what I liked was crap. In his house it was Pavarotti or Mozart and all composers and opera singers in between. I longed for him to open his mind to all the music out there. Every genre has talented artists. We don’t have to like it all but we can accept that there is an inspiration behind it. So now as an adult I can accept what he likes and see the brilliance in it but also in other music.

Aretha Franklin was good friends with Pavarotti. Although, not an opera singer, she stepped him at the last minute for him to sing this very song “Nessun Dorma” in 1998. It was the Grammy Awards, the doctors decided he simply couldn’t sing, that evening. Backstage Aretha asked if she could listen to him singing it, then stepped out on stage and belted it out. Absolutely amazing job on her part. So well done in fact she was asked to sing it to Pope Frances. You can find the queen 👸 of soul singing this on KZbin.

I was listening to an opera singer talking about Pavarotti and his singing style. She gave his style a name(which I've forgotten), saying it's an older style which isn't taught any more. It requires an extra body strength to sing in this style.

I had the privilege of attending a free concert when he filmed part of Yes Giorgio in Boston. What a phenomenon. There is this honeyed tone to his voice and he had perfect pitch. You should check out other opera singers. For example the Flower Duet from Lakme. I think you'll appreciate them. Really lovely to see your response. I hope you get to hear this in person one day.
@samhartford86773 жыл бұрын
Yes, he's considered the best (male) opera singer (as in a tenor) of our time (frankly because of recording we do not know otherwise, but in total that's quite a many decades anyway). And yes, you were ascending to heaven, as far any of us are capable of imagining it. In addition, did you notice how he read the words of the song from a paper. That is, it was easier for him to remember the notes than the lyrics. Why? Because the legend is that he had an ear for the perfect pitch, being able to produce the exact notes from his memory without reading the notes. That is, he could mumble the words without mumbling the sound.
@miafranlund69822 жыл бұрын
Sorry Mr Hartford, but I have to correct you a bit here. Yes Luciano Pavarotti is one of the best tenors ever, but even Luciano himself said that he strived to sing as good as his idol, Jussi Björling.

I'm so glad that I watched this wonderful man lifted your spirits in this way. The opera, Turandot, is the ancient story of a cruel princess. She has many suitors, but will only marry whoever correctly answers three riddles. Any who fail will be executed along with some of the townspeople. Prince Cuomo answers the three riddles correctly, but she refuses to marry him, so he challenges her to guess his name before dawn. If she fails she must marry him. If she succeeds, he must die. The song, is him repeating his challenge to her and the three words "vincero, vincero, vincero" at the end mean "I shall win, I shall win, I shall win". Nessun Dorma" means "None shall sleep".
